Bokeh originates from Japan and the pronunciation of it is the one you laughed at the most.

Now this is how photography tutorials should be done. Awesome! I've already been aware how to get bokeh with my camera and lenses, but your video popped up as suggestion and here is the fun fact... I've been aware of it because you taught me how to do it, with this video a few years. You do a great job to introduce people into photography techniques!

For beginners: remember that Bokeh on Full Frame cameras looks different from Bokeh on APS-C and Micro 4/3s cameras. On a smaller sensor, a wider aperture lets in just as much light as on a full-frame camera, but you get less background blur. There are plenty of good videos out there demonstrating this. And as this video demonstrates, aperture and sensor size aren't the only things to consider. The distance of the background makes a *huge* difference. If your subject is standing with a faraway vista behind them, you can get background blur even at F11. And the longer your focal lenght, the more pronounced this effect is. One last touch. Having a light source on your subject also helps with foreground/background separation. It can give your subject more visual "value" and create more contrast between the edges of the subject and the out-of-focus background. If you want that effect of the subject looking as if it's popping out of the background, the lighting is arguably more important than the blur. Don't have a light at hand? Pick a dark background! The effect in this video would have been much less impressive if the door where the lights hang was white. The deep brown really helped the photos.

The bokeh on my old Minolta-Rokkor 58mm f1.4 lens is amazingly soft. Great technique you have here. I knew it was a great pc. of glass as Minolta built some lenses for Leica. Kodak invented the digital camera and is out of the camera business. Minolta invented TTL and autofocus and sold it's camera division to Sony. Canon and Nikon are the big two now, I went w/ Canon. Thanks, great video.

Hey, I'm more into videography, but I find that the bokeh decreases when I increase framerate in video mode.. My Theory is that perhaps when using a faster frame rate like 60fps, u speed up the shutter thereby decreasing the light to the sensor.. Is that Right? Anyone had that experience?

Most other imgages at the end of the video also have a similar composition. the subject and the bokeh are the only two things you see.

When I got into photography back in the late 60's, we didn't have bokeh--all we had was "Nice background!" Thankfully, it has a name and even more thankfully, some of those old preset lenses with lots of curved diaphragm blades make for some very nice bokeh. Especially longer lenses paired with extension tubes. Very good vid! Thanks!

It was just me or your prime lens was turned the other side around for your shot? (inverted i mean), nice video btw, nice to know you can achieve that shallow DOF with a 200mm without having a big aperture like f3.5 or less (because those lenses costs more than the 55-200mm with max ap of f5.6 at 200mm)
