Bokeh originates from Japan and the pronunciation of it is the one you laughed at the most.

In the Nepali language boka means goat. Haha. But I agree, I pronounce it as Boh-kay.

Now this is how photography tutorials should be done. Awesome! I've already been aware how to get bokeh with my camera and lenses, but your video popped up as suggestion and here is the fun fact... I've been aware of it because you taught me how to do it, with this video a few years. You do a great job to introduce people into photography techniques!
Such an amazing video. I'm glad you shared this technique. I shot my first bokeh photo using cheap Christmas lights and a panasonic g7 with a 42.5mm 1.7 came out great thanks again!

Is there any difference between the bokeh effect we get from the both lens??????? which should u prefer if only bokeh is concern?

can u pls give me revie of Nikon L310 Point and Shoot
This was one of the best videos I've seen! Thank you, I learned a lot in 6min 22seconds. 😊👍🏼🌟✨💖💫
Thanx for the great tutorial. I also love the photos at the end demonstrating the technique. :)
For beginners: remember that Bokeh on Full Frame cameras looks different from Bokeh on APS-C and Micro 4/3s cameras. On a smaller sensor, a wider aperture lets in just as much light as on a full-frame camera, but you get less background blur. There are plenty of good videos out there demonstrating this. And as this video demonstrates, aperture and sensor size aren't the only things to consider. The distance of the background makes a *huge* difference. If your subject is standing with a faraway vista behind them, you can get background blur even at F11. And the longer your focal lenght, the more pronounced this effect is. One last touch. Having a light source on your subject also helps with foreground/background separation. It can give your subject more visual "value" and create more contrast between the edges of the subject and the out-of-focus background. If you want that effect of the subject looking as if it's popping out of the background, the lighting is arguably more important than the blur. Don't have a light at hand? Pick a dark background! The effect in this video would have been much less impressive if the door where the lights hang was white. The deep brown really helped the photos.
I really enjoy your tutorials!! Very detailed, and your work is awesome! Keep the tutorials coming!
Safiya got me here
Was that a reversing ring on the 50mm? I noticed the f stop didn't show on your display which is typical if you reversed the lens?
The photos looks awesome! Thanks for the super detailed tips ^^
This is one of the best tutorials that I could find. Thank you c:
this is so amazing! been trying to get a good bokeh photo for awhile and this really helped out!
The coffee glass with the lights "oozing" out , was really nicely done ! liked it...

Good instructional video - you did a great job ! Your presentation was simple and very easy to follow. Can't wait to try it.
Wow I’ve never been creative with bokeh like that. Really cool.
I Worte a blog about understanding aperture and f-numbers. You can find it here: medium.com/@18to55/achieve-the-bokeh-effect-with-kit-lens-18-55mm-e600077babd My blog is called, 18 to 55, because I've challenged myself to only shoot with the kit lens for four months and take stunning photos, plus teach you how to do the same.
Really good, this can be used on more, I've started doing this at wedding shoots with excellent results
Was that the Jetson's notification tone? [3:24] Great video by the way. Thanks for explaining the type of lenses to use, and what settings to use.
this vedio is amazing i learned from u so many things thank you
The bokeh on my old Minolta-Rokkor 58mm f1.4 lens is amazingly soft. Great technique you have here. I knew it was a great pc. of glass as Minolta built some lenses for Leica. Kodak invented the digital camera and is out of the camera business. Minolta invented TTL and autofocus and sold it's camera division to Sony. Canon and Nikon are the big two now, I went w/ Canon. Thanks, great video.
Thank you PhotoExtremist, you are amazing !
good lookin dude. thanks a lot. I am a novis photographer and i needed this boost. you rock.
I love it. I'm going to try that right now!! Thanks

Great Tutorial- I like the details it helps to me understand your process more clearly. Thanks!
AWESOME instructor!!! Thanks so much for what you do!

I have that same Jetson's notification noise! Nice video. Taught me a lot
Really good video. This helped me alot!
Love it!! Thank you very much for your videos!:)
awesome video! ładny kibel w tle :)
Hi, Thanks for sharing this. I just got my camera a few weeks ago and thought this looked fairly easy, however you can see the light wires in all of the shots. I am using a 50mm prime set as you prescribed and have even tried slower shutter speeds thinking that might help but no luck. Thanks for any words of wisdom.
Thanks a ton man i was a trying alot for getting this effect..
I thought I had my bokeh technique down packed. This video CLEARLY said other wise. I thank you for this video!
Hey, I'm more into videography, but I find that the bokeh decreases when I increase framerate in video mode.. My Theory is that perhaps when using a faster frame rate like 60fps, u speed up the shutter thereby decreasing the light to the sensor.. Is that Right? Anyone had that experience?
@Enonimesh
9 жыл бұрын
YOHAN HENRY MUSiQ I don't really know about video. But basically, increasing shutter speed means lesser light. :)
Thanks for all the great tutorial man!! I've learned so much from your videos. I'm just curious about how you managed to get the edges of your shot so dark.. Did you do it post? Most other imgages at the end of the video also have a similar composition. the subject and the bokeh are the only two things you see.
You are really creative! Great!
Thank you for the tutorial-- very helpful! I noticed you were able to adjust the brightness from time to time while filming -- is this a feature on all Nikon cameras? I was curious as to how you were able to do that, like when you lowered the brightness to show us on the camera your shot of the bokeh.
thanks for the detailed help!! I had one quick question though. Everytime I try this effect, I either seem to not get the bokeh in the back, or everything is out of focus. What could I be doing wrong? D:

maybe it's where your focus point is? maybe try manual focusing on the jar or depending on your lens you might be too close to the jar?? :)
That is a super cool effect thanks for the detailed tutorial.
Thanks for the tip will have a go at using Xmas lights and bokeh stencils this weekend.
That is so pretty!
Would I be able to get Bokeh Effect with the Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 ? I'm afraid I'll just get a boring, blurry background without the circles (the bokeh effect).
Nice video, good effort. Enjoyed it 👍
Thank you, great tutorial. I gonna check out your other videos. Keep making more tutorials! Subbed.
Proof that having all the latest kit doesn't necessarily make you a great photographer. Creative stuff and well captured.
When I got into photography back in the late 60's, we didn't have bokeh--all we had was "Nice background!" Thankfully, it has a name and even more thankfully, some of those old preset lenses with lots of curved diaphragm blades make for some very nice bokeh. Especially longer lenses paired with extension tubes. Very good vid! Thanks!

I started in 1971 w/ a Minolta SRT-101 w/ a 58mm f1.4 lens, great bokeh. Yep, shallow depth of field finally has a name !

I still have an SRT-200 and a 201 and a couple of 50/1.4's--great cameras and superb lenses!
Awesome... just tried this but need more practice. Thanks so much.
Nice tutorial. I learned a lot!
5:47 in order to have the entire picture blurred I can hold a magnifying glass in front of the lens. then You can take shots like that even with cheap full automatic cams like in cell phones or so. simple as that.
beauty video thanks! Commenting though cause I really liked the musical arrangement rendition, nice
YURS EXPLANATION ABOUT THE SHOOT ARE SO COMPLETE!! thanks fo share! Wich lens is better 1.4 or f1.8?
Thanks for the advice. Btw, how do I measure the focus dist of a lens? Is it determined by distance from subject to the front part of the lens?
It was just me or your prime lens was turned the other side around for your shot? (inverted i mean), nice video btw, nice to know you can achieve that shallow DOF with a 200mm without having a big aperture like f3.5 or less (because those lenses costs more than the 55-200mm with max ap of f5.6 at 200mm)
Great video man!
Very informative and very simple
Genius! Thanks for sharing Bokeh!
Wooow ...awesome..learnt a new tip 😍😍😍
i subbed!! awesome vid!!
i love this video.. i`m abit new to photography and would like to try bokeh photography . . do you think i could still pull it off with a d3100 with 18-55mm kit lens ? and another question , can other colored paper work as well , or just black paper only ?
Thanks so much for the vid!! and for bokeh pronounciation, the third one was the good one! since it's pronounced that way in the japanese word for blur
thanks so much for this tutorial mate. This is gonna save me a lot of time testing :-)
the best and so easy tutorial, thank you for sharing
Awesome video. I am going to try something make this
You inspire me. Your so pro
awesome vid btw nicely explained!
very good example, thanks! I want to start shooting better bokeh. I can get the new tamron 70-300 for a really good price (special opportunity) or the 50mm 1.8d which is really cheap. Which would you recommend for a better bokeh?
