Damn realistic depiction of wanting to say something more to someone you care about but all the while both of you know theres nothing more to be said. Whats done is done and theres nowhere to go from there. Just sitting in silence with each other.

Just savoring the last moment, and you both know it's the very last moment. But anything you say would be ingenuine. So you sit and wait, wanting the feeling to last as long as you can possibly make it. And then it ends.

I thought the ending felt real, by that I mean it's that life goes on and times waits for no one and nothing. As far as we know that was the last time Bojack and Diane spoke to each other, same goes for the real world as well.

I'm really upset at the people who say that Bojack dying would have been a better ending. The point of the show is not that killing yourself is the solution to life's problems, It's that life is something worth holding on to even at the worst of times, because you never know if it'll get better or worse if your not around to live it.

I think it is more accurate to what the show is, which is although filled with very exaggerated things, it is realistic. It excellently depicted mental health and society. It gives me the same vibes as the catcher in the rye. It was something that had sort of an anti-climatic end. Life, especially dealing with mental illness and struggles, doesn't just end at a precise point and move on. I really liked the ending because it felt real.

I also feel that the thing is there is no solution to life's problems. Because life is a bitch and sometimes you keep living. If you're alive, there's always a tomorrow. Riding off into the sunset isn't the end. It's just when that story stopped being interesting.

Well, if you listened to the rest of the credits for The View From Halfway Down, his heart starts to beat again. That would have been the best ending. BoJack doesn’t die, but we still get that horrifying existential ending that was the ending of episode 15. Personally I think that 7 or 8 seasons rather than 6 would have been best for the show. It feels like the writers still had a lot to say. For example, Maude and Hollyhock were barely mentioned in this season. Judah and Princess Carolyn getting married felt like an afterthought because we got nothing. I think that Season 6 should have ended with The View From Halfway Down, use the extra episode that they would have from not having the conclusion to get a Hollyhock centric episode, then have Season 7 have no BoJack until the last episode, which would be almost the same as Episode 16 of the Season 6 we have now.

LeBron James well Diane said it perfectly herself that, “there are people that help you become the person that you end up being and you are grateful for them even if they were never meant to be in your life forever.” Bojack helped diane become the person that she is now and she will always appreciate that even if they don’t continue to have a friendship (which its implied that they do not).

The creators of the show are very upfront about this being a show where the basic idea is "there is no such thing as a happy ending, there's just the morning after." Which is a real bummer, but only if you let it. Because if there's no such thing as a happy ending, then there's also no such thing as a sad ending either, is there? There's just the morning after.

The message that I’ve always derived is that life isn’t a TV show or film. You don’t get happy or sad endings. You keep living your life, you make some mistakes, but you keep going. Someday we’ll all be gone, but until the day comes when we depart this world for whatever is next, we just try to live. It’ll be hard and it won’t always seem worth it, but it’s what we have to do while we’re here.

  • @seanprice4343

    @seanprice4343

    4 жыл бұрын

whitedude877 you missed a pretty key line in the song. “I’ll leave you with a smile; i’ll kiss you on the cheek, and you will call it treason.” It’s about moving on from toxic personalities. Mental illness isn’t an excuse to be an asshole (as explored in the show), and Bojack’s dependencies drag Diane back down from a place that she worked really hard to get to. There’s a reason she didn’t answer his call.

  • @whitedude877

    @whitedude877

    4 жыл бұрын

@@seanprice4343 I don't know about that man. The line goes "And then I woke up one morning, and I had this voicemail..." The corollary is she was just asleep. The whole scene, about people saving each other, about Diane wishing she could be the person BoJack thought she was, none of that is really about BoJack being actually toxic, however much he is. It's that Diane can't possibly help him anymore. Wrote a book about him that got him his dream role as Secretariat? He fucked that up. Diane is there for him after Sarah Lynn's death? BoJack tells her that she "can't not be a part of his life," but he leaves for Michigan and doesn't speak to her for six or eight months, gives her a call, then returns to LA only to not speak to her further. Diane gets him to go to rehab? He comes out sober, but relapses and nearly kills himself, but not before calling her. It's all too much for her. "I'll leave you with a smile; I'll kiss you on the cheek, and you will call it treason" is almost an exact description of what's going to happen. Diane is leaving BoJack for her happy(er) life in Houston with Guy, and it can be assumed BoJack will not take that well.

Some people are talking about how sad it is that Diane didn't reply to Bojack's last words, but I think the point is being missed. One of Bojack's biggest issues was his constant, neurotic need for validation. If Diane had answered him, she would have been feeding that flaw. Instead, she doesn't. And Bojack doesn't try to seek it, because there's nothing to be said that will make this farewell any easier. By saying nothing, they both prepare themselves to move on, but manage to preserve this one, last moment of goodness for what it is. Times change, and people change. Some wrongs cannot be undone, even if forgiven. And some ships must pass in the night, but that doesn't mean they must pass with harsh words.

I have a friend who said he prefers the ending of the view from halfway down for the finale! For a simple fact that you think he dies in the end of that episode but then you find out he doesn't because of the life line sound beeping normally if you watch the entire credit scene and not skip it to the next episode... He told me he still watched episode 16 which is an actual finale of the show but he prefers the ending of episode 15...which I fully understand, he doesn't die which is great but at the same time maybe that all you need to know by the end, he survives something that you would never think he would because he had so many chances before but then God gives him another chance to live and we can only wonder at that point what will he do? What's his next plan? It would have left the show very ambiguous but some people like it that way and my friend was one of them. You would only imagine in your head how his life could be turned around or maybe it will not get turned around and that what episode 15 Kinda leaves you thinking WITH, ... It would have been an impactful finale episode if that was an actual finale episode when I think about it more... But at the same time I fully understand if people wouldn't be satisfied with that type of ending for the show, I don't know if I would be satisfied completely but it for sure would be one hard hitting finale episode . But I am definitely satisfied with this ending.

Todd found that even a practical job can be fun (daycare allows him to be childish). Mr. Peanutbutter found that being alone isn't so bad. Princess Carolyn achieved a healthy work/life balance and doing things in a less conventional way. Diane found she could make a difference in her writing without being the next bell hooks. BoJack lost everything but found himself. I wasn't expecting the ending to be this happy, even if the happiness achieved isn't so typical.

Maria Amparo Perez Lopez whicg is why it confused me that everyone and their mother is telling me that there is no chance for an Diane x Bojack ship like ever. Maybe Bojack had problems in the past, but he learnt. When they met, he started to think about himself and rethinking if what he does is actually right, same for Diane basically, just Bojack was, like Charlotte said, a coward to confront himself, and only after he accidently killed Sarah Lynn, his badically foster child, he noticed he NEEDS to change, like Todd said when he seperared ways with him. And Diane realized sooner then later that she needed to change too, even if she had the smaller problems in compare to Bojack. Too bad Mr PB stood in the way of Diane and Bojack whoch ironically held Bojack back it seemed for the most time. Otherwise it didnt rly seem that Bojack was holding back about intimate relationships in the past. I do like the ending (or the interpretation to it), yet wonder if Bojack & Diane could have gotten together for thefinal season and in the last episode splitting up because maybe both know they dont fit together or that they arent “made to be“. But I think the shock of that parting was Hollyhocks part, not Diane's, which led to Bojacks more or less death (pilgrimage).

However, their new lives can’t keep being there to save him when they have their own lives so they need to leave him. Bojack is mr blue. Even though I’m glad that Bojack’s and Diane’s friendship didn’t completely fall apart at the seams, you can definitely tell something’s shifted drastically between them. Like, Diane is still SO cross with him. Maybe it’s not anger or resentment exactly, but the hurt is still very visible, and now that Diane is stable, she WANTS to keep a better distance between herself and Bojack. People have said this before, but Bojack truly does bring out the worse in Diane, and vice versa. She doesn’t WANT to feel responsibility for everything Bojack does, and of course Bojack doesn’t intend for her to feel that way, but it just ends up happening. However they move forward in the future, I hope their friendship involves a healthy amount of boundaries and distance.

I don’t think Diane is actually upset with him any more. I think they’ve just drifted apart in a way their relationship really can’t recover from any more. They needed each other once, but after everything that’s happened and the people they’ve grown into, there’s just a distance between them that they can’t surmount. If they over spoke again, it would be brief and pleasantries. But likely after this, Diane and BoJack would simply go their own ways and only have this as a treasured memory. And in a way, I think that’s really the best for them. Being in each other’s lives may ultimately send them falling back into the ways they used to be; change is hard for people and they often end up going back because it’s the easier option.

Midnight rant: For the longest time I saw myself as BoJack, naturally a toxic view, but a view nonetheless. I sabotaged good things because good things shouldn't happen to shitty people. I constantly saw myself as the villain in stories and embraced it because why did I deserve to be anything more. I came from a divorced family, dad drank and mom was a druggy, so I knew I was either going to be better or just the same. As years tacked on, now 24, I see there's no good or bad, just how you see yourself. I remember the first time I finished BoJack, I was at a friend and it was 7am, all night binge. The moment I finished it I got up and walked out the house and just kept walking until it felt like I could come back. Something in his story felt so familiar. "Tell me I'm a good person Diane.." hit something. Jump from 18, homeless couch surfer, to 24 with his own place and a better understanding of who I am due to BoJack. I sat with my now ex, who I got the house with(lesson: don't get a place with someone if you're not sure about yourself and who you are) watching the last episode as Diane and BoJack sat looking at the sky and holding back everything they wanted to say. "Not everyone's meant to stay in your life" was all I needed. I stayed in that house because I thought I needed her to be better. She helped me get there but I didn't need to her to stay there, at this point it was draining me to stay with her and see her move on. So the lease was running out and I decided to run across the US, East coast to midwest. All I could hear was Mr Blue in my head, knowing the moment would come to say goodbye to this life, house, and her. One night I began packing my car and was planning to leave before she got home, but I couldn't.. I needed to say goodbye, maybe I wished she'd have stopped me but I knew she wouldn't. Once she got home I gave her the last month of rent and told her that I was going and that I wish I could have been who I was now a few months ago. All I wanted to say was "I love you" but in two years I never felt I deserved to say it to her or deserved her love. So we hugged and the time stopped, I felt like I should say so much but we stood in silence. Then we backed away, said goodbye, and I got in my car. Watching her walk into the house I had thought I would start my life, family, and future in just to know that it would probably be the last time I see her.. Felt wrong. I chose the wrong time line somewhere and this was the punishment. Yet, I remembered that last moment between Diane and BoJack. We were best friends, but we needed to go our own way, I needed to go my own way. I'd be a liar to tell you that I wasn't influenced by everyone on BoJack. Every character pushed me to push myself to find my own happiness, and I haven't stopped. I live with my best friend now, he's literally my Mr. Peanut Butter, upbeat, active, and keeps me from looking down. All in all, I wonder if BoJack and Diane would ever talk or meet again.. And I feel they would, but if not, that's okay too. They helped each other grow and be better, with goods and bads. Thank you BoJack and the entire cast for helping not just me, but anyone else who needed someone to show them the truth about mental illness, death, and being your own worst enemy. You've changed the world of animation and TV, for the best. Thank you.

Todd, PB and PC aren't cutting him out, they're simply changing the dynamic of their friendship with Bojack in a way that is better for them, and Bojack accepts that. The only one truly better off without him is Diane, which is sad. But that's life.

I feel like what makes their relationship so special and painful is that they could really see each other. Basically that's what their relationship was based on - on their awareness that they are drowning together. They both found this connection extremely valuable, cause they just identify with their trauma. But by the end, Diane learned that there are so many more nuances to her... and sometimes trauma just happens. And there is nothing romantic about it. It doesn't make you wiser or anything. It just fucks you up. And it doesn't matter how much you overthink it, it will never make sense. The only thing that would make sense is to move on and focus on all the other aspects of you. Whenever she is with Bojack, he still sees her as her trauma and she starts again seeing herself this way. But that's not OK anymore. She got to the point where that's unbearable, or at least unhealthy and unnecessary. It's painful cause it is what it is and there is nothing to be done. And in order to stop thinking about that part of them, they need to let go and lose someone who really sees them.

Lots of people upset at how the ending was “anticlimactic” but that’s exactly the point of the show. If you were expecting everything to crescendo into some grand final set of scenes and then end, you missed the entire running theme of the show. Yeah, big shit happens sometimes, but there’s no grand ending, happy or sad in life. It’s peaks and valleys. There are the roof conversations and the self destructive near death experiences. There’s breaking it off completely with an ex and getting clousure and there’s the weird distant cordial relationship where you aren’t really definitively stood one way or another on them. There’s reconciling with a friend you had a falling out with and things go back to the way they were before and there’s the silent distant viewing of someone you so desperately want to say sorry to but can’t muster up the strength so you spend years just kinda feeling like soup over how you treated them and then they move halfway across the country and the nail’s in the coffin. In every one of those scenarios, however, life goes on. Times arrow only marches forward, remember? It doesn’t just...stop. Those of you upset that we didn’t get some “grand finale” missed out on one of the most unique and fresh examples of life storytelling we’ve ever had. When BoJack says “you never get a happy ending because there’s always more show...until there isn’t.” When Diane says in essentially the last line of the show “sometimes life’s a bitch and then you keep living.” If you wanted some big grand scene or event or some main character to die or some life changing revelation or some permanently fixed character flaw, you’re watching the wrong show.

Exactly, in any other show I would maybe wait for a more standard finale, this one was... kinda awkward, and exaclty what it was supposed to be. Bojack isn't alone though. Yes, he doesn't have Diana in his life anymore and that's terribly sad but he still had the others like Mr Peanutbutter and Princess Caroline. Princess Caroline only cut him off professionally but I believed that they are still friends. And Todd hasn't completely cut him off. Plus, he still has the opportunity to find another Diane on his life and maybe they can have a better and more healthy relationship than this one. And meant more permanent too. But that's the beauty of the show. Anything is really possible with this ending. It's a prefect mashup of closure and ambiguity at the same time. Where we know that this is the end but we also know that there's the morning after.

This is a unique show, I've never been able to talk about this show to anyone and it's weird because I believe it showed pure human emotion through animation and it made me question by own beliefs and thoughts in the real world. When I first started watching, I thought it would be like other animated shows and movies, more comedy and laughs then a end of the episode "lesson". But once the second and third seasons came out it punched you in the face with deep personal questions. Bojack Horseman was never all about happiness and humor, it showed the audience real issues and maybe thats why not everyone enjoyed it, it made them think about themselves too much. I'm sad seeing it end because I've never been attached to show, but relieved at the same time because of the great story it created. This is a show Ill never forget because the writers were able to grab my attention then twisted the show around and pushed me towards contemplation and reflection.

I think the most important thing espacially with a great show ending is you don't want to feel cheated. As though you just wasted your time watching it from start to finish. Can honestly say I didn't get that feeling with how this ended though. Some people got there happy ending which is nice and watching the show you really do want that for them. Some things weren't resolved in a good or bad way they just weren't resolved. That's life though some times. Which admittedly plays perfectly into the theme of this show.

Honestly, as I see so many animated shows having mediocre to horrible endings, it just makes me happy that the best one had a great ending(s)

“Life’s a bitch and then you die” “Well… I think Life’s a bitch and you keep living” Classic Diane and Bojack for the ending scene. Bojack being depressed and Diane giving amazing advice. Only difference is they took the advice this time… did it take years? Sure but they still got there. Progress is progress

What i thought after binge watching this for a week and watching this scene: Its time to be sober now. Not just sober from alcohol, but the thought that I can’t change. The thought that I will always be this way. Its time for a new me. Thank you BoJack ❤️

The first season ended with Bojack and Diane on a roof, drifting apart. The final season ended with Bojack and Diane on a roof, reconciling before parting for good. A beautiful bookend.

wow I just realized that the relationship between Diane and Bojack is just like the relationship between us and them. They won't be there for us anymore, and all we can do is rewatch history, but it was nice while it lasted. This also explains why both Diane and Bojack are dressed in blue: not only does Diane want to tell Bojack these things, but it also reflects the unspoken conversation we have with the characters. They, collectively, are mr blue. I think the creators of the show are telling us that, just like how Diane and Bojack have matured and come to terms with their struggles, we should seek to do the same thing. This show, even after two months, never ceases to impress and impact me.

"Sometimes life's a bitch and you keep living." This ending is perfect. That line is a reminder that life can be awful, but killing yourself isn't the easy way out, it's worth holding onto your life even at the worst of times. This entire show has helped me pull through my bitter times, and I wouldn't be the person I am today without it. I am forever thankful for anyone who worked on this show, and I have never been more confident in calling a show "My favourite show of all-time".

This shit made me openly weep when I saw it the first time. The real bitch of it is, I'm not even sure why I was weeping. It wasn't a sad ending, it didn't even really give you much in the way of closure, story-wise. Sure, there is closure to the relationships in Bojack's life, but there's also an emptiness that is almost crushing. This show fucked with me for a long time, and it still finds ways to do it today.

I couldn't begin to fathom a life without watching this show. I've never before tied myself so closely to a graphic psychological journey that also manages to walk the tight rope of morality. Bojack Horseman transcends animation. It is what it is.

I like to believe there's a future after the show where Bojack gets out of prison, manages to become better, and either reconnects with everyone from his past, or moves on like them and starts fresh with some new people as a new horse.

Also the lyrics are perfectly fitting. Bojack and Diane are both wearing the color blue, a color that is commonly associated with depression. Bojack has a lighter blue, showing optimism and that he may have a brighter future. It’s also extremely realistic. Just because you may love someone doesn’t mean that you should stay around with them after all their mistakes.
