Angklung made from special bamboo, a sound by shaking. The other name Calung made from special bamboo too, sound by hammering. This is the signature Sundanese traditional instruments. Sunda tribe are pure peoples at West Java Indonesia. Edward and Alex van Halen ( VAN HALEN ) they mother is Sundanese.,and I am Sundanese. There is another similar instrument, name Arumba from North Sulawesi, Indonesia. Uncle D you are so nice, we love you as we love ourself. Thank you so much uncle, please come to our country.

Correction bro, Arumba (Alunan Rumpun Bambu) is also from Sunda, the one from North Sulawesi is called Kolintang. 🙏

Saung Mang Ujo is a Centre of Angklung Music which comprises a school of music, dance and West Javan culture in the city of Bandung, West Java. Mang Ujo established the Centre to preserve traditional Sundanese/West Javan music and culture. Angklung is a thousand year old bamboo musical instrument which you shake by hand to vibrate the sound. Each angklung represents the sound on the "octatonic" ladder. The bigger piano-like instrument is a modernised collection of tens of angklung arranged together the same as the octaves on a piano. It is tapped by fist to make the sound. On the premises of Saung (=covered stage) Mang Ujo is a permanent open air, but covered (built from bamboo !!) theatre and stage, every day there are performances. Students come watch arriving in schoolbusses from all around. At 3.30 pm there is a 2hr show for interntional audience, in english. The performers are all students from the school, except for an ocasional artist appearance as in this video. Besides angklung (bamboo instrument from more than a thousand year ago !) there are traditional dance performances from all over the Indonesian archipelago. The institution/school is now led by the son of Mang Ujo, who has studied music in Australia. Kindly google : Saung Mang Ujo Look for/listen to Bohemian Rhapsody and November Rain.

Those little individual tiny instruments are the basic ANGKLUNGS. Each represents a musical note. It is a local traditional instrument from HUNDREDS of YEARS back !! Not just invented. That large instrument comprises a collected bunch of those tiny angklungs...arranged like a piano in proper octaves....hung on rubber strings vibrated by hand..
