The best recording of this Rachmaninov I've heard from any group, let alone such a tight-knit one. Unbelievable!
So beautiful performance,greetings from Serbia
Hey TAV, I remember you singing this in Melbourne, a few years ago. In your whole stunning repertory, I am drawn time and again to this performance. It is a deeply emotional experience. Thank you for the wonderful music!
Good heavens, that thunderous bass at 2:26😭😭😭
it's extraordinary that you managed to do this with only 6 people...
I don't know if it is the way thy sing or how they master it, but Australian Voices always sound mechanical and auto-tuned
Great! Thanks from Russia. The truth art and music will never die:)
Well done. Young, clear voices.
It’s a magnificent song. I shared it with many friends because it really worth being shared. Compliments from Brazil.
Beautiful, just so beautiful
So beautiful, thank you!
This sounds so nice :). Makes me remember when I had to sing it in my choir in 8th grade. We probably weren't this good, but I like to think we were...;).
Well done guys. Great. Absolutely stunning.
Me gusta mucho esta obra!!!!!! Me encanta cantarla!!!!🌿
Lovely.
Beautifully done.
Allow me to refer to the comments of Andrija Andelic regarding their diction. I dare say that even in Russia, which is a pretty big country, their diction of this work is not always identical either and I have listen to most I could find on KZread. Do all English speaking people speak the Queens English? This performance by these 6 singers is very moving! Thank you guys. BTW I heard these singers many times, earlier this year in Mahler II and just a few hours ago they joined Topology in The Singing Politician here in Cairns. Extraordinary music making. Now on a more cheerful note in a major key. What are the names of the singers from left to right?
OMG I love this piece so much!!
I can't stop listening
Brilliant....beautiful song...
Beautiful,wow.
Excellent !
Angelic. What a great recording!
very very Beautiful song; beautiful Voices. Excellent; Thank´s
Beautiful
BELLISIMA!!!!!!ME ENCANTA.🌿
I will say that this song is definitely not meant for a small group. The piece was intended to have very few pauses, which is unrealistic for a small group as they can't stagger their breathing. Still, beautiful voices singing a beautiful piece.

Sometimes I sing this song by myself. When something sounds this good, then it is meant to be.
Fantastici meravigliosiiiiiiiiiii.
Fabulous tuning. Reverb just fine.
wonderfull!
Pretty good! A bit stilted in places, but there are only six singers. The effect of the All night Vigil is best obtained from a fair sized choir in a hall with excellent acoustics. The recording by the Estonian Philharmonic choir is a particularly good one.
I liked it and I thought the pronunciation was good also. It is in line with how Polish and Russian Choirs sing this piece (check out the University of Warsaw Choir's rendition of it here on KZread). Some purists says that words like "Raduisa"(sorry - can't do Cyrillic here) should be pronounced as "Raduisya" because that's how it's spelled in Cyrillic! The former is used by Russian and Polish choirs (and by this Australian group as well as you can hear); the latter by American choirs and it sounds lumpy and slightly jarring.
magnificent!
Such a unified sound!
I just noticed the low c before the ending chord

Oh yes! It's not so easy to find a bass that can pull that off, in or out of Russia.

You should have heard him live. Absolutely stunning.
The Theotokos and virgin, rejoice, Maria full of grace, the Lord is with thee. And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, As the Savior bore thou our souls.
Recording on iTunes? :)
Exquisite
This is one of the most moving versions I've heard. It's stunningly beautiful - way to go guys and girls!
love it, though! Bass dude is pretty cool.
Thank you for that.
Their independence is so impressive!
I'm a bass, so I always listen for bass... I'm usually really critical, but I like this one. Overall, I would say I just wish they would loosen up a little and maybe let a little vibrato come through here and there (if not just sing naturally the whole time). I'm not from the blending school obviously.
🌹🌹🌹🌹
nice, but consanants are too harsh, especially at the end.

Karolina Csathy I think it’s due to the ecclesiastical Slavonic that has naturally this pronunciation as the russian too.
that is insane
Ignore the haters - this is an incredible ensemble!
Bravo👏👏👏👏👏👏👏💖
rather nice, quite good basso profundo at the end but: why so in a hury? 1 minute toooooooooo fast not necessary, look, hear to VOCES8!
We don't know their names...
This song is from middle ages and not by rachmaninov he took this from catholic hymns as this was sang by the knights before the battle .
Nice work on a low C there whoever that was.
I would like to marry the bass guy on the left :o)
Nicely done but there are 8 written parts in the piece not 6.

Karolina Csathy Yes, I have the score it is written SSAATTBB as Rachmaninov wrote it, my score is in cyrillic. There may be reductions for a smaller number of voices, but as originally written it is hard to see how it could be sung by only 6 people. The soprano split from bars 20 to 22 is important, the Alto split from bars 14 to 20 is huge. The tenors have a significant split, the bass split is very short, only one and a bit bars.

very difficult for a choir of 6 to sing 8 parts however talented they may be. I´m sure Rachmaninoff would have understood.
Beata viscera Mariae Virginis Roberto di Marino
Wonderful sound and collaboration between singers, but you should work on your Russian pronunciation and vowel shapes. It would sound so much better with right words pronunciation.
Oh dear the pronunciation :(

Considering that this is in a dead language (Old Church Slavonic) I'd say they're doing pretty well.

@@CaptPoco Slavonic was never intended to be the lingua franca as evidenced by the fact that it lacks profane or otherwise cotidian words within the vocabulary. Furthermore, considering that it is still used by enormous swaths of Orthodox faithful worldwide, I'd say it's anything but dead especially since it is used in the context for which it was developed-liturgical art.
Even though the individual voices here are quite good, I agree with some of the criticism expressed below, especially with both the mechanical-ness of the overall 'ensemble' and the obvious pronunciation issues. The choppiness (due to the poor pronunciation of the Old Slavonic text version of the Latin 'Ave Maria' or the English 'Hail Mary') needs to be replaced with more fluidity (a mindful legato); likewise, attempts to somewhat dramatize the piece by stopping and starting in awkward places within the text is very uncharacteristic in Orthodox Church Music. Such music has more of an unending flow, mimicking an 'unstoppable' monastic prayer. What I found particularly amateurish was the 'scooping' into and out of phrases (especially noticeable with the sopranos and tenors), further exposing the discipline needed in performing Eastern Orthodox literature. If you listen to Russian, Ukrainian and other Eastern voices, you will not hear any of this, even among children's voices. You may want to listen to VOCES8's version of this same work, and you will hear a better total ensemble, blend and overall excellent execution. But nothing ever beats 'Eastern voices' in performing such great Eastern musical works.
you have to go in Russia first, later sing..

Kaio Del Garda soz but it's acc in church slavonic , different ...
Less reverb please!
Your blend is wonderful but the Slavonic diction is not very good.
the breaths are bad

Really? I appreciate the effort, but...where`s the slavonic spirit of this? The pronunciation. the emotion....The way I see it - only Russians, Poles, Ukrainians etc. (slavonic nations in general) are able to feel it and sing it right! Sorry, but: DISLIKE!

I've just come across this video by chance... and found your remarks to be fascinating and rather skewed. Rachmaninoff was born unto a Slavonic nation yet he died in Beverly Hills, CA. I suppose one could say his music, his muses, and, his spirit spanned the globe. As for the unnoticed Slavonic spirit in this performance; I hear it. This, as you well know, is a hymn to Mary. It evokes passion and emotion. The language itself evokes that Slavonic spirit of which you speak. This is a brilliant performance by six brilliant singers. Perhaps a comparison of a Russian Sextet performing the same piece of sacred music might be in order, although, Rachmaninoff himself was an advocate of artistic license. I appreciate your opinion and respectfully disagree. Kind regards.

And he also wrote an English language version of the entire Vespers (aka "All Night Vigil") while in the United States.

Might I suggest you research videos of Russian Liturgical music from Russia?I doubt your opinion will be the same. This isa highly technical, heartless production of a hymn.
