Description: Casper, Wyoming - On June 6, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., multiple officers with the Casper Police Department responded to a call for service regarding a disturbance in the 5000 Block of Pay It Forward Drive. Officers spoke with the victim on scene, who made allegations that she was the victim of domestic violence. Officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, 26-year-old Trae Spurlock, for five minutes. After all attempts to contact Spurlock failed, Officers returned to speak with the victim. In need of personal items from her home, the victim requested to enter the residence. To ensure her safety, the officers accompanied her. While this conversation was happening, one of the officers speaks with the victim to confirm if the weapon they had just observed, was, in fact, real. Upon entering the residence, the officers found Spurlock sitting on the balcony with a rifle next to him on the ground. For nearly 15 minutes, the officers attempted to talk Spurlock into the apartment, and away from his rifle. When the officers attempted to arrest Spurlock for simple, domestic assault, Spurlock opened the sliding door and turned rapidly back towards the rifle. When the attempted use of a taser failed, the officer fired his weapon seven (7) times, six (6) of which struck Spurlock as he moved for his rifle. Officers immediately began first aid efforts and Spurlock was transported by ambulance to Banner Wyoming Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Girlfriend was obviously pushing his buttons and caused that situation on purpose. She probably knows his personality while hes drinking and getting angry as a vet. You can tell because when he got shot there was no classic "woman screaming" or going "Nooooo!!!". Thats what happens in a domestic dispute youre trying to resolve or get someone mental help. Considering that girlfriend was screaming and him and he couldnt get her out of the apartment... im going to say all signs point to murder by cop using psychological manipulation.

Most people don't understand this but a continuous stress response mixed with PTSD and alcohol causes a significant decrease in executive function (e.g. making a good decision). Constant button pushing and manipulation will cause an individual to just say "f it". Over production of cortisol, the stress hormone, will cause a shrinking effect and rewiring of the prefrontal cortex and cerebral cortex leading to a physical disability to actually function properly. The woman may not know thats what shes causing to happen but she clearly was triggering him. She should be investigated for cheating or other psychologically manipulative behavior. Texts at least.

It’s the Drug (the Legal) Alcohol!! It’s almost always the case in DV! I was only choked, pushed, had my laptop shot, followed out to my car, when I tried to leave.. whilst he had a pistol in his hand, telling me to get my arse back inside now!! Only when he was on the liquid drug. Whiskey! I loathe alcohol. Irrelevant made up shit all of the sudden attacking me. When he was sober, totally different. Pay attention to the vids on here. Almost everything bad is related to alcohol. Missing people. I mean it’s the catalyst to almost everything horrific. I’m not even including the crashes & fatal crashes.

It's a sick mental mindstate within a person. It doesn't have to be just from the military many people deal with trauma but dont know how to fight it and so many factors could've pushed him to the point of him ready to die or made in his mind he was not being taken into cuffs. A very deppressive and hopeless state sucks within. I believe the cops should've never arrested him and allowed her to grab her stuff and leave. All he wanted her to do was leave. @@haneefsmith6823 it is a bit eerie once you see people dissociate. The most important thing is to remain calm and keep talking to them. NEVER start yelling, it could trigger something. Also, try not to disagree with them or argue. Basically, avoid anything that can come over as if you are looking for any sort of conflict. This is not only for people with PTSD, but could also be used for people with bipolar disorder. If you see they are drinking alcohol, make sure they are safe. A lot of times alcohol can let them do things that they were thinking about for a long time already, like suicide.

Either death by cop or not" then go on to talk about how good you are at killing people, and how many gunfights you've been in. This is a situation where the cops were very right to be scared.

Sadly the police coulda handled it better and unfortunately this guy coulda also. The women obviously wanted more drama also. Instead of leaving like she was gonna she wanted to get the last laugh in. She has to deal with that forever now. I wonder if he knew she was cheating on him or he was just tired of working all day to pay for everything while she is out having fun. A police officer with a better social awareness could have prevented this. I am fckn autistic, and I even could see the man needed help. The best thing you could have done here was let the girlfriend take her stuff and continue this another day when he is sober. You can feel the man is not well mentally (most likely PTSD). To aggravate him like that is just so stupid. Yes, he was a little bit rude in the beginning, however sometimes he did make some logical points. I know the feeling of not caring what happens any more. You could feel that the man was still distraught from the fight with his girlfriend. At that point, it is just best to leave him alone. Another note, this man is obviously very intelligent, you can hear it the way he talks.

one thing you need to understand, most cops nowadays, not the ones from older generations, are mentally ill people who got bullied in school or were neglected by their parents and all they want is an excuse to abuse people and so they became cops. Many of them are not like the older generations who came from loving families, maybe had a father or relative work as a cop, and thus had a desire to make justice and protect the innocent. If the law allows it, they're totally OK dumping a magazine on a guy over a push.

@@Lily-hu9el I'm sorry, but you're absolutely reaching. Pushing someone out the door isn't necessarily assault. Yes, she's on the lease, and it's her apartment as well, but when there is a domestic call, one person is usually taken away or asked to leave. Many victims (both men and women), have been asked if they have a safe place to stay for the night, and the same can be said in the opposite (ie. the suspect is taken to the jail and bonded out within an hour, and driven to a shelter or with their surety if applicable). The comment you're replying to is trying to highlight that point. Do I think she forced his actions - it's very much probable, and BOTH could've handle the situation better. Keep in mind, emotions are running high at this moment. The law can consider his actions as domestic assault, and it'll most likely be lowered to something else.

I’m reading these comments as a 2-time Marine Corps Combat Veteran and I’m sad, because some of you don’t know exactly how badly PTSD can mess with you in the worst way. When you’re tired of everything you just want to be left alone and in peace without violence but civilians don’t know the lifestyle and it’s something we all struggle with unfortunately. Stupidity and not having common sense is a trigger for us so we become the most introverted of hermit crabs to reduce our stress levels. This brother in arms needed some help, and someone to talk to and release the stress through open minded conversation. It’s very unfortunate it ended this way. R.I.P to him, I’m sad he felt he had to jump off the ledge but I’m glad the officers aren’t hurt either. Be kind everyone, you don’t know who’s who in this world or what internal struggles they’re facing. Opinions are just that, opinions, until you’ve been where another person has been you can’t talk like you know when you don’t, please understand.

Slow the video to .25 speed and at @ 14:18 Trae moves to cover to try unsuccessfully to avoid being tased. Trae falls on the opposite side of the chair from the rifle. @ 14:37 The Officer drops the taser in the lower video and Trae is in a position where it is possible that both his hands are on the floor when the Officer begins shooting. Officers escalated this situation both verbally and with what I think was an unnecessary deployment of the taser. Trae Stewart Spurlock did not have possession of a firearm at any time during this video. I called the cops once to have an ex-girlfriend removed from my house after coming over high on Adderall and drunk, acting a total bitch. When I told her to leave she started trying to kick me in the balls etc, I’m way Bigger than her and with her screaming I decided it was best to call the police to have them remove her. The dispatcher Heard her screaming in the background, I was the collar and the victim, and when the cops showed up she literally attacked me in front of them and they had to hold her back Because as she put it “I stole her weed pen” when she just lost it, and i was hitting my nicotine vape while telling the story to the cops and she confused them. I never admitted to her physically hitting me to the police because I didn’t want her to catch a charge, even though she did, but she literally attacked me in front of the police! Normally in those circumstances, even if there’s a hint of violence, they arrest the man even if the woman doesn’t want to press charges. Did they take my ex to jail? Did they insist on handcuff in her? No, the white knight cop insisted I pay for an Uber to take her home. That’s when I told them all to get off my property. They ended up calling her a cab, but then 45 minutes later I got a call from the neighboring town Police Department because she didn’t have any money for the cab and the cab driver had called the police, and she told the police officer call me. I explained the situation and he said if no one pays for the cab she’s going to get a petty theft charge. I said “Book ‘em Dan-o!”

Like all of us in this world cops have a fight or flight instincts cause remember they are humans too. Even with enough training for situations like officer involved shooting when that actually happens that training goes out of the window an your main survival instincts kick in. Some officers will go into fight mode while others go for flight mode. For her the instinct she had was run away. Put yourselves in her shoes. You can say I would all you want but will you do what you said or will your instincts take over. Because trust some of you will be able to do what you would do while others will run away an hide. If you're going to talk shit everytime a woman is in a officers involved shooting an has her natural instincts to freeze or run then you should talk shit about the men who do the same thing. Seriously these officers that go through this shit are changed forever because they took another person life that has a family. There are situations that they have to make the most difficult decision an that is use deadly force on kids who are holding weapons. Answer this: can you take your service weapon out an actually make the decision to end a child's life that had only just started. Can you take your service weapon out and be forced by the suspect to end their own lives cause they couldn't do it themselves. How would you react to it. You either be professional until no one can see you an cry, or are you going to be that one officer that struggling with a boy that had the cop's gun an watch infront his own eyes a boy shoot himself in the head, an cried an sob and blame himself for that boy taking his own life. While your partners an people in that neighborhood tell him that it isn't his fault and that the boy already made his decision an there was no way of stopping him. I have 4 times had tried to end my own life. Each time I was determined to do it, an right after completing regret it an hope that I wake up the next. I became too self aware an now for the rest my life have suicidal ideation and fight against own self to not let it happen.

Just doing our job...Yeah well there are plenty of other ways to do your job where this guy would still be alive. Pretty stupid if you ask me and generally I'm on the cops side. Literally not a shred of de-escalation was used here. Really hope these cops and their department learn something and change some standards of practice over this.

As a combat veteran who suffers from chronic PTSD I feel for this soldier. I can tell you this, he chose his fate when he rushed for his weapon, and he did it to end the pain.

I couldn’t imagine, this world is so backwards nowadays. Not in a religious way but you are a spirit possessing this body so just know that it’s an experience. More than us just being a random animals that spawned with a conscious. Thank you for your sacrifices and I wish the world actually cared for folks like you and him, there’s nothing I can really say bc I don’t know what to but I do wish you the best. Keep on hanging in there and just know this is all temporary and there’s more after it - without the bullshit that comes with living in this world ❤

He was also trained to protect himself as you already know and surely he's probably had to do it more than once. I see it as him doing what he knew best to protect his needs in the moment and if he wouldve gotten his gun he would've proved a point that needs proving with or without violence . The police think they have all this power and they can abuse it all because they have a badge. Same with politicians and The court clerks and the judges it just doesn't feel about justice anymore or was it ever? How much can you pay me to keep you out of jail is what it seems like. Anyhow thank you as well for serving and I appreciate your point of view even though Its sad.
