It got CJ’s attention as the video mentioned, but essentially, Toms apology to Pat was for “ruining”/crashing his show and perhaps the uncomfortable dance/position he had in between the two parties. Bc he distanced himself verbally and no verbally from it, and Bert. However, that’s not an apology for HIS actions, which WERE promoting the product (during/over CJ’s). Which is why CJ shortly lost interest in his apology and the possibility of a connection/handshake. I think Tom handled it quite well until the very end. He should have looked at CJ and told him “sorry” to. Outwardly sounding like the same apology he just made to Pat, But actually apologizing for partly disrespecting, and ruining his promotion. Which he did have fault in, which is probably why he didn’t do it.

I gotta call out one glaring component: the fact that CJ realizes these are 2, out of shape, drunk, middle-aged white guys and thus pose no real physical threat if it gets really out of hand. That probably contributed to him feeling confident in the situation.

I think the threat of physical violence underlies everything, and it’s just basically survival. In social interactions, it’s not the focal point, but it definitely influences them, especially between men.
