You are clearly a good mechanic and in my opinion would benefit from an image change and l wasn't trying to be an arse ( I'm an ex mechanic now 70 ) I enjoy your videos and always give a positive thumbs up . Your potential is great ( just like south main auto ) Best wishes Dave Kenyon 😄

Hi, I enjoyed the video, it was useful for me. I have the following question: Do you know which of the two models brake boosters that are mounted on the mk 4 platform - 1J1614106E (lhd) or 1J2614106B (rhd) generates bigger effort/pressure on the brake master cylinder? As far as I can see first model is 10" size and the second one is 7/8" but is dual-diaphragm/chamber. So which of them is more effective?

my brake are not as soft as before in my focus mk2 hatch 1.6, so was surfing about brakes in you tube just now and i understood how they work,, what do you think my problem is ? my pads still got 50% if the rubber in the booster is damaged can i change just that? question isn't the line to make vacuum or to pump air in it ? some brake don't use pump but air intake line to brake so to create vacuum to help the braking ? how do you pressure both sides of the diaphragm ?

Nice video , i assumed i had the same issues as ive had issues with my brakes being solid after 2 presses and i found out i was losing brake fluid which turned out to be a leaky caliper on drivers side back , this was replaced and still the same issues, ive been back to the garage 3 times now and asked if they bleed the brakes which they said they did but i beg to differ and i tested the brake booster to see if it worked and the mechanic did the same test and said its not that so im confused to what it could be and due to take it back down to him this week, its doing my head in :( another garage said its the brake booster without even looking. Any ideas ?

Depends on which engine you have. If you have a deisel you have to remove the egr valve and what not. Also depends on your tools and how fast you are. But if you have the right tools. Hour and a half ? Give or take

it's funny I have never seen a master cylinder like that on a MK4 and the brake booster is different too I think because it's a right and drive car . I remember having a New beetle with the same problem but the engine did not have a vacuum pump so it had a check engine for a lean code and the white plastic clip I always have on in stock but I also have the factory tool to disconnect the pedal to the brake booster for your info on a left hand drive car you have to contended with the ABS pump/module but on most of them I'm able to do them without removing any hoses from the master cylinder so you don't have to deal with bleeding brakes plus if you get a old car you have the possibility of breaking bleeder screw.

Hey my seal Leon 1.9 brake pedal is hissing every time I push down on it. When the engine is off the brake lever becomes stiff and I can’t push down anymore after a couple of times of me pushing on it but as soon as I start the engine the pressure goes away and I can start to push the pedal down again but the hissing nose is still there.

bluegod hi mate that is normal as long as the pedal does not go all the way down to the floor you are ok but if it does you have an air or leak in the system somewhere

Hi mate there's a few ways of doing it when the engine is off yes it's good that the brake pedal is hard you need to get it put on a smoke machine or if you use some type of washing up liquid water mix you might be able to see it bubbling this will give you a good idea of where it's leaking

Hi you could have a few issues here obviously I cannot see the vehicle and I don't know exactly what you have done but the pads might not be fitted correctly you could have rust jacking on the carrier which is forcing them not to fit properly you could have a seized caliper problem you could also have a flexible brake line issue where it's collapsing internally you're going to need to check all these out individually to see what exactly is going on also how are you bleeding the brakes

brake servocs work off a vacuum, the brake servo is sealed and has a pipe going to the inlet , when the engine is pulling air in , therefore this pipe from servo to inlet is now creating a vacuum in the servo , so now when you press the brakes your pushing with the asisstance of the vacuum in the servo.

Is there really a vacuum pump on this VW petrol as he states in the video? I thought pumps were only fitted on diesel cars as it was not possible to tap the vacuum created by a diesel engine. On petrol's the vacuum comes from a tap on the intake manifold and the vacuum is created by the pistons moving in the cylinders. I'm genuinely asking if this car has a pump as I've never come across a petrol car that has had one before.

Mate, the pump doesn't put air into the servo, it removes it... That is why it's called a vacuum pump ! It creates a depression in the servo that "sucks" the membrane of it therefore assist with the braking.
