Here in New Mexico, we're able to keep as many as we catch! Moved out here after the military and boy was it a learning curve. Grew up trapping back east in Mississippi, and a cats a cat but how they go about being a cat is different (if that makes any sense). Your "cave" sets really opened my eyes up. I was tracking creek bottoms and ridges and I was walking by many a cat! Thank-you sir!

@@jeromycooley-outwestadvent5790 If we don't pass on to our kids what was passed to us....where would you and I be....? I've been taking our Daughter and Son along when we set and run our traps since they were old enough to walk almost and I'm not so sure that both of them are not better trappers than I am already lol. We just got back from running our traps and we had a good night so we are headed to the fur shed now. God Bless and Good Luck.

Awsome cat trapping filled your tags quick, beautiful cats. Noticed you didn't use any kind of flagging either. When you set at them toilets are ur traps set right in the scat area?

Thank you. Great questions. I used flagging on 4 out of about 30 sets this year. I’m not against it at all, but I try to get the sets in where I know the cat is already walking. As far as the toilets, yes. I make a t-bone set right in the middle, or the edge of all the scat. The bone is great eye appeal, and it really doesn’t matter what type of lure I use at that point, they love to check out the bone. I appreciate the comment!

I think I had about 30 cat specific traps. I had 3 different cat traplines. I trap coyotes and bobcats on the same traplines. Usually cats up high, and coyotes in the bottom ground. The bobcats are just a quick flash in the pan, seems how I can only keep 5 per season. I’m mostly catching coyotes. Thanks for the comment!

Thanks for the question. The principle of these sets definitely would anywhere. If I concentrate more on trying to get my trap under where the animal naturally travels, the set/lure becomes secondary. I would make these same sets no matter where I trapped in the nation, but I may have to adapt to specific terrain, ground conditions, weather conditions, or population. I hope this helps!

Thank you! Yeah Ben it would definitely work for a coon. I’ve caught several this season with these same traps, but If I was setting specifically for raccoons I would use something smaller. This #2 square jaw allows them to get their full mouth under the jaws to chew on their foot. I haven’t lost one yet that way, but if I was specifically targeting raccoons I’d use a dp, or a #1-1/2 coil spring. Great question. Thanks for the interaction.
