This should be re-titled "Bobby and Joseph". No "versus" here! Just two great vocalists, each in their own right!

Bobby is my favorite TOTO singer but he seems to have peaked earlier than Joe. Still both great singers at their peak. Joe 's voice has only gotten better over the years.

Heard them yesterday and Joseph was better than ever. Unbelievable! He doesn't get old, he's getting younger. They even changed the key of "Hold the Line" back to f sharp minor (here in the video they do f minor). His voice was absolutely clear and expressive and he caught the high notes better than ever. Whole concert just awesome. Stellar! Mindblowing! Luke phantastic, also his voice recovered. Must be great getting sober. 😆❤

Bobby was incredible in his prime. Unfortunately not all singers' voices can age as gracefully as Joe's, but he's only gotten better and better over time. When I saw them live in April, Joe's voice blew me away.

Joey's voice was better in 2008-2013 compared to now, recent years they play the tracks one step lower in key. His voice voice in the early 80s was superb kzread.info/dash/bejne/p2ZllLV8iZWpYKQ.html

I love how Joseph’s voice got better as he got older. Even nowadays his voice is still incredible!

Bobby was a beast in his hey day but as he's alot older than Joe the decline was inevitable and it happened on The Falling In Between tour just as Joe's voice was getting better. It's like Toto knew who they wanted but had to wait for the right time to bring him back.

Kimball sometimes sound constipated, too forced falsetto. Williams is a better singer overall specially after Toto IV.

That first clip of Joe singing Hold The Line in his “prime” was from the Seventh One tour, when his voice was completely gone, he basically lost it due to too much party and not taking care of his body. You wanna be fair? Listen to him singing on basically any Fahrenheit show, he was AMAZING. Live in Paris in particular.

Bobby Kimball was and always will be the voice of Toto to me, however; I respect Joseph Williams and he is a fantastic vocalist. I think people need to cut Bobby some slack though, he's ten years older than the other guys and from what I've read, he has some degree of deafness and was diagnosed with dementia while Joseph was able to recover his voice pretty well after his issues. I wish Bobby got a happy ending, but his prime will always be untouchable and he helped Toto become the timeless band that they've become. I must give further credit to Joseph though as without him returning, Toto probably wouldn't still exist right now.

Bobby had the higher range and excellent control but Joe happens to be more consistent as he looked after his voice more. Bobby also peaked much earlier than he did which is why it was rough around the edges the older he got

Just saw them with journey... brilliant performance, the group they've put together for this tour is an all star mix of sessions that really mesh well, and Joe is dynamite!!!

I saw Joseph with Toto during their Seventh One Tour at the Gorge in Washington State in 1988 and he was great. This was from a handful shows in the US before they went to Europe and he struggled. I've seen him with Toto on three other tours and he's been spot on each performance. Even stronger than back in '88. I saw Fergie during the Isolation tour in 1985 and he was really good as well. I only saw Bobby during the Through The Looking Glass tour in Arizona and he was "screaming" through most of the show but he was a very nice guy to talk to after the show.

I just saw them a few days ago in Stockholm. Joseph sounded amazing

I saw them live a few years ago before Covid. Joseph was an amazing performer. Not only was he great musically, but He absolutely understood the assignment as far as working to have a human connection with the audience and let people relive their youth. So good.

Bobby was killer back in his prime. By 2003 his voice was already shot. Joseph Williams is absolutely fantastic to this day..

Bobby was still solid in 2003. I have the TOTO 25TH Anniversary in Amsterdam that proves it. Steve Lukather didn't sound so great. He admitted later he was ill during that concert.

BOBBY KIMBALL For ever

The 'prime' clip of Joseph isn't really the best example; Joe was suffering drug- and voiceproblems at that time. Bobby was great when he was younger, so was Joseph. Getting older, Joseph is way better. I've seen Toto many times live, both with Bobby and Joseph and I can asure you Joseph has been a beast for the last 10 years, (and is still going strong with the 'Dogs of Oz' tour) while Bobby sang out of tune a lot during the last tours. For the people calling Joseph a 'karaoke' artist or anything like that: Besides Joseph being the leadsinger for about just as long as Bobby was, singing leadvocals for a couple of huge hits just as Bobby did, Joseph also co-wrote a lot of Toto's songs while Bobby hardly did. Also, when Lukather, Paich, Steve P. and Joseph reunited in 2010 and finished the first and only tour they were about to do, it was Joseph's enthousiasm and drive that kept the band going for a couple more years resulting in more tours and a (probably final) studio-album. So please don't ever say Joseph Williams is an 'imposter', 'karaoke singer' or anything, 'cause all things considered he's probably been more important to Toto than Bobby was.

Joe could never be more important than Kimball . The Line up with Kimball from 1977 to 1983 had garnered 6 Grammy awards in 1983 . The other singers including Joe were good but never, ever repeated that feat. Sorry but Kimballs still important to TOTO he was a BIG part of their sound as said by Joe Williams . Just turn on the radio even today, Hold the Line, Rosanna and Africa will be played on classic rock stations but it won't be Joe Williams people will hear , everytime it's gonna be BOBBY KIMBALLS voice that's still on all 3 songs leading , co leading and singing the chorus in Africa. No one can take that away from him.

Joseph just sounds better both on recordings and live. I can't imagine Kimball nailing a game-changing album like "The Seventh One" in the same way Both great singers tho.

Bobby Kimball is still the man in or out of Toto and an impossible vocalist to copy in his prime. As Joe Williams said in 2021" "Bobby Kimballs voice was a very big part of TOTOS sound ". And guess what naysayers ?It's not debatable, the TOTO line up from 1977 to 1983 with KIMBALL has 6 Grammys to show for those efforts. Hasn't been repeated with the other vocalists since. That's the truth.

I put them on par with each other, both absolutely perfect for Toto. I have a slight preference for Joseph as his stage charisma became really strong towards the end of Toto's tours.

I would GREAT Singers

Two great singers, however I always favoured Kimball. I have to say, when I first heard Williams on the Farenheit album Album,I was blown away. I have seen videos of both men when both had clearly strained voices. I think my kicker was hearing Bobby sing Caught in The Balance in Paris. His presence, style and range were absolutely incredible.

I’ve been a huge Toto fan since I was a kid (born in ‘74) Rosanna has always been my favorite song…. Bobby was amazing back in the day…. Joseph Williams is by far, my favorite Lead Singer/Vocalist. He honestly has only gotten better with age!!!!!! He has perfect pitch and his range is amazing! Can’t wait to see them on the road again soon!

You're absolutely right. Am a "72" born and remember HTL from early radio days as a child and have seen TOTO live between 1992 and 2022 for at least a 20 times. Both of them do have their own repertoire of own songs. Bobby is unbeatable on his first 4 Toto records and also was after the 98 reunion. Although I remember a few weak Bobby' s vocal moments in one or another gig of the later years which I do not recall having had with Joe's. Bobby's voice is just like a trumpet, absolutely unique and super strong in the highs while I think - and I am not a singer myself- Joe probably has the better technique to save his voice and shelter it better thru the length of a whole tour. And I guess he has helped himself by singing his and Bobby's tracks in one or another lower key during the concerts. But to my understanding there is no better or worse singer of the 2 of them. It's a question of musical taste and voice aging. There is an age gap of 13 years between the both of them if I am not wrong.
