It's not about your connection with Manson. It's about the fact you held a decent man hostage for days before you plunged a knife in his chest twice. When you are 90 perhaps you will understand taking an innocent life isn't just a failure.

Bobby gets in some smirks for the camera... Look at me, I am so cool... like his friends, smirking at Tate... laughing at Tate. But watch as the prison doors are pulled shut behind him at :20. It’s rough and crude and this becomes his life. 50 years later Bobby isn’t smirking anymore. Rest in Peace Gary Hinman.

I corresponded via email, for a time, with Beausoleil. I had gone to his web site, which was very "new age" and full of references to spirituality, but which never mentioned Gary Hinman. I thought that it was a glaring omission, if he was truly sorry for his actions. I run my own mail server and accidentally deleted the emails - but,as I recall, he didn't seem extremely remorseful. I recall that he said that we're all "just one irrational act" from sitting where he's sitting, now. I will give him that point. He said that he really didn't empathise with his victim until he was stabbed, in a prison fight, and nearly died. He's a bright, articulate guy - but most people don't have to be nearly stabbed to death to have empathy for someone who they stabbed to death. . It wasn't a crime of passion - it was fairly indiscriminate killing, it seems, to impress his peers. It's a shame that he murdered Hinman, and, it's a shame that he threw away his own life.

His website had nothing about his victim, and I thought his crime was something he should have addressed. I was in a judgmental mood, for whatever reason. We exchanged some emails - frankly, I came to feel that he was a decent guy who had - for whatever reason - just done something terrible, as a kid. I don't really know the guy - but I do think he's been reformed. I'm a pretty forgiving character. I don't think the guy poses any threat to anyone - I think he's really learned his lesson. On the other hand, Gary Hinman is still dead and his link to Manson will probably keep him locked up forever. And I'm one of the only idiots on the web who uses his true name.....lol.

Charles Manson actually killed (or helped to kill) Hinman. Manson was never charged in that crime (Hinman's murder) but Beausoleil, in typical Manson family fashion, was caught while driving the murdered man's (Hinman's) vehicle. Not having a good explanation for driving a murdered man's car, he (Beausoleil) was then convicted of his murder. I hate to think it, but good defense attorney could have knocked the charges down to "auto theft".

Now I can see why they called him "cupid." Its a sad waste of a human for the victim, and its a sad waste for the murderer, if in fact he really did kill Hinman. I can't imagine the torture he endured, especially after Manson cut his ear in half. Maybe Beausoleil is in denial for having been involved. Its seems like there is so much deception and bargaining that the truth may be hidden somehow. The evidence, if not planted, seems to be damning. However, Sandra Good (an ironic name) is a real deceiver and is a complete whack job. I wonder whatever happened to Brunner. They are all dried up old hags now. Squeaky lives in upstate NY.

To be sure, they did embrace a number of principles contrary to the hippie agenda, but in terms of lifestyle, they were still hippies. There's an interview with him (here on youtube) I think from the 80s, where they show the "synthesizer-guitar" he built in prison, with such limited materials. It was ahead of its time & utterly amazing considering the conditions. He says something like, "when I'm 90 years old I can look back & say, hey I did something, despite all my failures," and gets a bit choked up...it seems like he genuinely regrets his past deeds. I guess there's no knowing for sure.

How curious. Mary Brunner and Sandra Good (awful apologist) claim that none of the Family murdered Mr Hinman, but they both know who did. Yet Brunner did a deal? Not very consistent so why should we believe the claims herein. Was it worth it, Mr Beausoleil? I think not.

@dstewart28I've been reading up on this in many Manson related books and Helter Skelter came in 1975. The TV movie came out 1976. I had thought that it came out in 1971 after the LaBianca tiral. So unless people were really interested in the trail, they may have not known about all the aspects of the trail until 1975-6.

What are your sources for the inference of Gary manufacturing LSD and crank? I've heard of the mescaline tag, but i don't believe in the least there was a real "drug burn" angle on this. If Gary was such a high level manufacturer in his basement, where was all the lab equipment that would be necessary for making all these different drugs? His basement would have been condemned with all the chemical residue in the walls. Did the police find all of this when they discovered his body?

Murder is hardly an accident or little mistake. It is done wth the intent of killing someone for no good reason. Which obviously is the case with the Hinman & Tate & Labiance Cases. Bobby and the others need to stay in jail for life. As they already received a free pass when the death penalty was dropped. People need to stop making excuses for them.

@dstewart28 An example of this is when I read the book "Squeaky" by Jess Bravin about Skueaky Fromme. In 1974-5 two young men agreed to help S.Good and Fromme with their ATWA letter campaign but when one man read Helter Skelter in '75 he turned on the girls. Though a college student, that guy didn't know exactly how the manson women were until he read. We really didn't have the media that we have today with Radio,TV, Cabler & the Net. So by '75 ATWA was the focus, not the racial of the media.

Brunner here seems honest against great odds. If they knew more, who was powerful enough to keep them from speaking and why?

being the "pretty boy" of the original manson cult, so good looking that he had already started an actig career in hollywood, would have probably gone on and met success simply because of his looks, i only wonder what he must have gone through when he got locked behind those walls, being so young too, he must have had his good looking butt passed around the cell block to no end, and he only got better looking as he aged from what i've seen of him on-line. they were all so young, such a waste.
