You make the Holbein paints look very tempting, your paintings have become identifiable to me when I run across them. Yours are exceptionally vibrant. I think I need to try that. Holbein Opera.. Or a dark indigo if the have it. Thx Bob!!

I forgot I asked this question about black. I have to assume that black is not counted at all. I’m going to have to try this. But is there a rule on black percentage on white to black?
@rosscoyates4 жыл бұрын
After watching this I went and bought at color wheel but mine has 12 divisions not 10 like yours. Is there a pattern for 12 colors? Where are yours available
@lindag36506 жыл бұрын
Excellent video because the color wheel type painting is right on to make a painting pop. But what is the black? Does it count as a red, as part of the 80%?
@MicheleEngel
5 жыл бұрын
Yes, as part of the background, but not as "color," per se. White and the black are never on a color wheel--any color wheel. They are not considered "hues." Black and white are used to create tints and shades on the value scale from white (as the lightest value) to black (as the darkest value). By themselves, they are neutral. You can create shapes, lines, marks, etc. with either and they won't interfere with the color combination that you choose. In terms of the percentage of space the white or black takes up, use your judgment. Like he said, you don't need to be precise--just generally follow the formula so that the color of your focal point and spice colors are doing their job in the painting against a larger background. That's just my 2 cents ....

I managed to create my own, but it's not easy. I was only able to do it because I'd purchased one of his videos a long time ago, and in the video case was a printed chart of the names of the Holbein colors he uses and their Golden Acrylic counterparts (I use Golden). From that I was able to pretty much figure out his chart and replicate it with the Golden paints. And then there was math involved (ugh!) because he has fewer color segments (10) on his chart than on the standard color chart (12), so you can't use that as a template, which makes it tricky to figure out the amount of space between the triangles of color (you have a 360-degree circle divided by 10 segments plus white space instead of the standard 12 segments without white space). Took me awhile to get it right. So if you can afford it (~ $25.00), just go to his website and buy the darn thing. It's totally worth it. You'll be glad you did!
