This Bruce Lee vs Bob Wall sparring match on the set of Enter the Dragon. Bruce Lee died a few months after the completion of Enter the Dragon. This rare video was shot by John Graden in Bob Wall's Real Estate office in Burbank, CA as part of the research for the books, "Bruce Lee, Joe Lewis, and I: on Amazon: amzn.to/3zvLJks and "How to Master Bruce's Lee's Fighting Style." amzn.to/35nxIrn
Was Bob Wall disparaging to Bruce Lee after sparring Lee on the set of Enter the Dragon? Watch and decide.
This is ultra-rare footage of Bob Wall (O'Hara in "Enter the Dragon") and legendary martial artist Joe Lewis reminiscing about Bruce Lee. Wall pulled out a series of black and white 8 x 10s from the set of the movie and then describes sparring with Bruce Lee.

The guy looking on; world champion Jim Kelly, says in his KZread interview, that, in his opinion, Bruce was THE greatest martial artist ever. He said he was absolutely unbelievable to watch and was untouchable when sparring with any opponent, including the legendary world champions of his day and from any weight devision; including lightweights to heavyweights. I can fully understand their ripping jealousy of the fighting freak that is the legend called Bruce Lee. These 2 have put in so much effort throughout their careers to become the champions they were, yet every time someone asks them a question, guaranteed it's about how good was Bruce...it must REALLY get to you after a while and when you're a proud champion with ego...

Didn't Jim Kelly followed Bruce around to visit other dojos to see what there were like just to see if Bruce Lee was good? "Bruce was incredibly strong for his size. He could take a 75lb barbell and from a standing position with the barbell held flush against his chest, he could slowly stick his arms out, lock them and hold the barbell there for 20 seconds, that's pretty damn tough for a guy who at the time only weighed 138lbs. I know 200lb weight lifters who can't do that." - Joe Lewis He's also been filmed do 50 reps of one-arm pull ups, and jamming his fingers into pressurized steel cans (very thin steel, but still). Dana White has called Bruce Lee "the father of mixed martial arts". Jeet Kune Do by it's very meaning is not a strict style but more of a philosophy. Lee has described it as "style without style", the whole point is do whatever works. It takes the most direct and effective route to the opponent known by the individual. Many UFC fighters take several styles of martial arts and make them their own, combining them all, this is Jeet Kune Do. Gene Lebell even stated Bruce was the best martial artist of his time. Bob Wall didn't fight Bruce Lee seriously. Chuck wrote about Bruce again in his WorldNetDaily column in 2011, describing both his skills as a martial artist and his physical gifts in a very complimentary manner; “The truth is, Lee was a formidable opponent with a chiseled physique and technique. I totally enjoyed sparring and just spending time with him. He was as charismatic and friendly in the ring and at home as he was on film. His confidence and wit were dazzling, and sometimes even debilitating to others... Lee was lightning fast, very agile and incredibly strong for his size.” (Black Belt Magazine) Chuck Norris also recounted that he thought Bruce Lee would have been the undisputed world champion if he ever fought professionally. So it is very clear that Chuck still has great respect for his friend and the impression that Bruce made on Norris still lasts to this day. Bruce would go on to become an icon to millions around the world as his martial arts movies completely redefined the genre and captured the imagination of old and young alike.

Look, I'm a white guy who is a novice at Boxing, Wrestling, and MMA but have tremendous respect for the pros and legends of combat fighting. So, to hear anybody including those who acted with or sparred with Bruce Lee think that they would have a chance to beat Bruce Lee in an actual fight is blasphemous. Really? I don't think so. Bruce Lee was one of a kind and in a league of his own. We're talking about the Father of MMA. How dare anybody think they could compete with him in a combat situation. Please. The amount of time, energy, knowledge, and practice Bruce Lee put into the creation of Jeet Kune Do is astronomical and unbelievable. Nothing compares to it. Let's not forget the supreme physical condition Bruce Lee was in as well. This only made his execution of Jeet Kune Do even more impressive. He basically took combat fighting to a whole new level which I don't believe will ever be surpassed. So, for all the practitioners or former fighters, just embrace the fact that Bruce Lee was the best and learn from him and thank God we were blessed by the many contributions Bruce Lee gave to the world.

I saw that interview, and that is absolutely correct, also John Saxon wrote in his book , about being on the set of ETD, with Bruce, and how Bruce had all these challenges, and how Bruce handled all these wannabes, and just destroyed them with ease, he was in total awe of Bruce and his skill, not ever did he make mention of Bob Wall and his skills, only that Bruce got passed at him for cutting his hand , because of not doing the move properly, and didn't really seem remorseful about it, that's why Bruce, really wanted to kick his dumb ass, if John Saxon was alive, or Jim Kelly, they would call him out on this, because both men, only spoke of Bruce's greatness. I love Joe Lewis, but taking Wall seriously , only confirms to me, he is regretful of not taking the role of Colt, in return of the dragon, because he wanted it to be a draw with Bruce, what a mistake that ever was, and because Chuck Norris wasn't so prideful, and took that role, it catapulted him into stardom, and he did it his way, and not trying to be Bruce, and now his net worth is 70 million, good for Carlos Ray Norris, his birth name.

They were just practicing between takes. Did Wall say that Jim Kelly didnt want any part of it? Right, JK was a bad man. Joe Lewis could have been a star had he taken the part in Way of The Dragon instead of passing and letting Chuck Norris have it. Instead, he ended up in Carolina Beach, NC and visited my martial arts school in Wilmington several times. I also ran into him buying a box of chicken at the local Bojangles here. He also did a demonstration at a local park where he fought a local fighter to what was at best a draw. I was there and remember Joe receiving a beautiful upper cut to the face. The couple of times I met and talked to Joe, he was nice enough. Hell, the first time he came in the school where I was training, I didnt know who he was. Had he been in WOTD, I'd have known for sure who he was. This was back in 1990 or 1991.

@Teddy Jr. Have to agree with you that Bob Wall is lying through his teeth about a number of things mentioned and definitely was not the one responsible for either Mr. Kelly's or Mr. Archer's participation in Enter The Dragon. He did not hire them as you mentioned and it is true that Rockne Tarkington was originally cast as Williams but the way that Jim Kelly was selected for the part was upon the recommendations of both Mr. Ed Parker of Kempo Karate fame and one of Mr. Parker's black belt instructor's during that time, Mr. Steve Saunders who is known now as Grandmaster Steve Muhammad who was the karate Instructor in the scene showing him and Kelly shaking hands in the Dojo before leaving. Bruce attended a number of tournaments where Mr. Saunders had competed and mentioned that he had very fast hand techniques of which Mr. Saunders appreciated this complement quite a bit as he has mentioned this in a couple of videos here on KZread.

I ve met all these guys over the years. They rode the post Bruce Lee gravy train for all it was worth and they were still broke. All three tried the movies and never got traction the way Bruce did. Bruce had charisma , the camera loved him, and was a great self-marketer. Joe was Mr. California in a gi. Bruce learned physique aesthetics from Joe but took it to the next level with "persona" Joe lacked because his look didn't translate. Bruce tolerated Bob because of his relationship with Chuck Norris. And he could really "sell" a punch better than Chuck. That was it. Bruce's time with Lewis was purely commercial and broke down...over a woman. Joe's wife who was prejudice. Lee had nothing else to say to the man. Bob Wall did not hire Jim Kelly for ETD. Fred Weintraub did at the absolute last minute. Bob was the stunt coordinator for "Black Belt Jones" which Kelly had no control over. Jim was neither here nor there but he did have a chip. Jim Kelly took a lot of abuse on the Enter the Dragon as a rookie in the business but had a significant role and watched it get dismantled by Saxon's perks which Bruce avoided because he had his own problems with a studio who rejected him flat for the TV series"kung fu" and rubbed his face in it. His apology was a three picture deal which Lee indirectly pushed on ETD because he saw his potential. Thats why Lee let him do his own fight scenes while Bob had "no chance" as Oharra. These guys were supposed to be the beacon of polished behavior and respect for departed colleagues. Its a disservice to the man who put them on the next level. You see now why they didn't stay long.

No, sorry to say, he passed away, 2013 at age 65, leaving behind 4 sons and 2 daughters , as well as my uncle Ed Parker, passed away 1990, at age 59, just arriving from California, coming back to Honolulu, of a massive heart attack. And I spoke to him, just a few months prior to his passing, I was a valet at the willows restaurant, and he was there, and I think it was a celebration of his latest book that he authored, and I have a few of his books, and I was excited to see his new book, but he said it's not martial arts, it's a family genealogy book, Roots & branches of Arthur Kapewaokeao Waipa Parker & Eva Margaret Vierra: which are his parents, he was more proud of this book, over all his martial arts books, that he wrote, he explained about how much royal blood that we have, I knew that cause my dad always told me, we are directly related to King Kamehameha the great, thru his granddaughter, Kipikane who married Ebenezer Parker, but he told me , but, did you know the Waipa lineage, was of higher royalty than Kamehameha, so we went thru his newly published book, and me and my family, was on page 100, so we hugged , and greeted one another, that was the first time that I ever met him , of course, I asked about Bruce Lee, and he said, cocky and arrogant, but he could back it up, said Bruce , was super fast, and deceptively powerful, probably the skill set ever seen, then 5 months later , he dies, after getting off of his flight from California, at the Honolulu Airport, that made me so sick , cause he wanted to come back and talk story, yeah, that was a shocking time for me, there was so much, I wanted to learn from him. And as far as my cousin goes, at first me and my brothers, had a hard time believing him, about training a bit with the great Bruce Lee, then one day, he shows us this personal invitation to Bruce Lee's funeral, but he and my oldest brother had trained under the same professor, both we in the military, and they both trained the green beret, they both went their separate was, but both ended up back home in Hawaii, and they both had great respect for one another, my brother was my instructor, and he was a true martial artist, he always taught us, the best fight is not to fight, he was truly a humble man, even till now, at age 75, my brother trains, punching bag, and I seen him destroy 2 big dudes in a fight, and to be honest, he did his absolute best, to not fight, seriously, he let the guy punch him in the face, took the shot, told the guy you win, and proceeded to walk to his car, then the hit him from behind, and still tried to walk away, and the dude fired one more shot, in which my brother blocked, in the same breath, hit the guy with an open palm strike, dropping this 6'5 280 pound man, later, my brother found out the next, the dude went to the hospital, 4 broken ribs, for real.

John Little is the con artist who created a bullshido training method that was supposed to give maximum strength and size gains by doing one fifteen minute workout per month. Obviously, no one ever saw anywhere near the results that con man promised with his pseudoscience behind his “static contraction training.” So, you have the “word” of a proven con man who was never there against all the people who were there. I trained with Karate Champion Bob Burbidge who not only trained with Bob Wall, Chuck Norris, Joe Lewis and Mike Stone, yet right before Bruce Lee died he was saving up money so he could study with Bruce Lee. (Which never happened because of Bruce Less untimely death) So why would a Karate Champion who had trained with all these Martial Artists want to train with Bruce Lee if some of them were better? They were not. Each had their strengths, but pound for pound power and strength, quickness and overall knowledge Bruce was on top. Chuck Norris was a great tournament fighter, one of the best Burbidge had ever seen. But the quickness and overall knowledge difference between them is obvious. Joe helped bring out kickboxing and was very good, especially after training with Bruce and was in great shape and could wrestle too, but Joe was as cocky as Bruce when he was younger. His cockyness almost got me in a fight with him at a tournament I went to just watch. Bob Tells big tales to magnify himself, but he was a decent tournament fighter who could wrestle pretty good because of training with Gene LeBell. He is trying to remain relavent.

Chuck Norris said this and Danny Inosanto who was Bruce's assistant instructor at the time stated that Bruce had mentioned to him at one point that he considered both Mike Stone and Joe Lewis as "fighters" but Norris as a good "tag technician" when the 3 of them were training with Bruce but would not admit (except Lewis) that because of Bruce's instruction they began to win competitions much more frequently because at the time, this was when karate matches were nothing more than "point competitions" to see how close you could come to your opponent without actually causing physical injury with a supposedly "incapacitating blow" with either foot or fist.

Bob The Backstabber is a liar who is full of resentment and jealousy towards Bruce Lee. He claims he hired Jim Kelly and Peter Archer (he didn't even remember his correct name. He referred to him as "Peter Bennet") for their roles in ETD. How does he have the authority to hire when Bruce hired HIM. Fred Weintraub and Robert Clouse hired Jim Kelly when the original actor cast to play Williams (Rockne Tarkington) dropped out at the last minute. Archer was a successful karate champion in Hong Kong. During a tournament, Bruce Lee approached him after watching Archer fight. "Would you like to be in my film?", Bruce asked. "Sure," Peter responded, "What as?" "Not sure," Bruce replied, "I'll write something in for you." The Backstabber had NOTHING to do with the hiring process on any of Bruce's movies.

Chuck wasn't getting killed twice plus Lo Wei had already stolen Chuck to do "The Yellow faced Tiger" redone as "Slaughter in San Francisco". Bill Rusaki was approached but he was injured. Bruce asked around to avoid Bob. Fred convinced Bruce to use him because he could "sell"a punch.

It's normal when your best days are behind you to talk shit on someone who isn't around anymore. That's the only thing left they have. What's so funny is all the videos of these guys in the past talking about how amazing Bruce really was, and many of them sparred with him, and stated he was beyond reality. Problem is, Bob Wall is under the teachings of Chuck Norris, and as an honor thing, you uphold your teachings above anything else. Just like Chuck himself, he'll always say " Bruce was very good, but he never competed like me", because he doesn't want to lessen himself, but there are plenty of interviews from the past where Chuck said how unreal he was, and when they trained together Bruce could pick up any new move and perfect it in weeks opposed to what would take someone years. You're not going to have Grandmasters out there admitting to getting dropped on their ass during sparring with Bruce if it wasn't true, and if you research it, you'll find the interviews, a few have said it. Just because Bruce didn't compete, doesn't mean he couldn't fight, it meant he didn't want to be restrained, because that's not really a true fight.

This was a lunch break warm up. The touch foot from a side kick is difficult to block for two reasons. The delivery is so straight line precise, it leaves nothing for your peripheral vision to pick up so your cue to retreat is too late. You can never move back fast enough. Secondly, the kicker has mastered closing the gap faster than you can move back. Try side stepping or angle off and deflect as opposed to a straight line retreat. Sounds like trying to escape an alligator by running straight away. Without zig zagging, it will catch you every time.

Bruce Lee did some good things for Martial arts. He revolutionized the thinking and made Martial arts cool. He was also an actor. Joe Lewis would fight anyone. He and Bob Wall actually took their skill into competition against the best fighters of that era. Joe Lewis never backed down from anyone. It is disingenuous to suggest he was a coward. I don't think you would have said that to his face. In my 40 years of martial arts I have yet to see documentation of Lee competing in a big tournament or any tournament. He did do some wonderful demonstrations.

@@markmiller5253 Well, Joe Lewis fought in point fighting tournaments and he himself said that thanks to training under Bruce Lee he became invincible and won 6 tournaments in a row. Then he said that he fought Greg Baines in a first full contact match in 70s and he named Bruce Lee as father of full contact. Moreover, he said that he knew how Bruce Lee and his Jeet Kune Do were Effective since Bruce Lee 'popped him' with it. So, to sum up, Bruce had no interest in competing in point fighting tournaments, as he was interested in real fight approach, focused on reality and full contact sparring. So, if Joe had said that and Bob Wall named Lee as DaVinci of martial arts and they both weren't brave enough to say anything against Bruce when he was alive. So, they behaved as Cowards because they didn't say to his face but when Lee was no longer around.

[when others fought him] - Even though many of these guys were really tough, I mean REALLY tough, and could take it as well as dish it out, they weren't prepared for Bruce. Just the look on their faces was a sight to behold when Bruce would just move in and shut them down. They were used to trading punches and kicks with other fast and powerful opponents, and scoring on them frequently. You know, more evenly matched. I know it was hard for me to deal with the frustration when sparring with Bruce, and I know it was exceptionally hard for a lot of them. The bottom line is that Bruce hit hard. REAL HARD." Bob Wall
