Bob Ufer Voice of Michigan Football

Robert P. (Bob) Ufer, U-M's legendary football broadcaster, is paid tribute annually in May at a memorable evening banquet bearing his name. The exciting and enjoyable event is hosted by the Ufer Quarterback Club where Michigan alumni and friends honor Michigan's outstanding athletes and award academic college scholarships in their mentor's name. In 2015, Arthur R. Vuolo, Jr., produced for the banquet this outstanding video tribute to the man from "Meeechigan!", Bob Ufer, an U-M alumnus, former standout athlete, much-loved family man, citizen and the Voice of Michigan Football. Go Blue!

Always loved Bob, his passion for Meechigan has always been an inspiration to me and my friends and family. Sadly I am the only one left of me , Bob and Bo. The three of us shared the same birthday April 1st, being left handed, wearing corrective lenses and of course the love of Meechigan! Go Blue!

I was there for that legendary 1979 game against Indiana. That was my first year as a Michigan student and coming from New York, had never heard of Bob Ufer. Timing right? Just in time for Anthony Carter's run and, while I'm generally not into homer announcers, loved Bob Ufer instantly. He was compelling, funny, knew the game, and a passionate fan. Hearing him call a game was a lively and fun experience. So happy he got a bowl win and a great team before he was done. He is still my all-time favorite broadcaster.

HAIL! TO THE VICTORS VALIANT HAIL! TO THE CONQUERING HEROES HAIL! HAIL! TO ][V][ICHIGAN THE LEADERS AND BEST! HAIL! TO THE VICTORS VALIANT HAIL! TO THE CONQUERING HEROES HAIL! HAIL! TO ][V][ICHIGAN THE CHAMPIONS OF THE WEST! What I wouldn’t give to be able to go back in time to the ‘69 ][V][ v XhiX & listen live as what in my mind is still the BIGGEST UPSET IN NCAA FB HISTORY! There were so many so called “professional NCAA FB analysts” in the country that said “it’s gonna be a blowout in The Big House folks. This 1 isn’t worth even watching. I don’t believe Michigan is gonna score a single point!” At the time XhiX was on an undefeated roll w/Woody at the helm & looked championship bound. However those analysts forgot 2 very key things. Number 1 is sure XhiX had Woody but we had BO! Number 2 is THE GAME WAS IN A2’ Nobody gave The Maize & Blue a chance of even scoring let alone dominating an undefeated XhiX team. The Big House had to be electric when those seconds ticked down to 0 at the end of the 4th. I’ve been to 18 games at The Big House in total including what I feel are 2 of the most AMAZING games Ive ever seen. The first was at The Big House in 2005 when we played Penn State when Chad Henne hit a now legendary NFL WR but was only a FRESHMAN at the timeWR by the name of Mario Manningham as the clock hit 00:00! The other key game that sticks out is the 2011 shocker when we beat Notre Dame after Denard Robinson hit Roy Roundtree for 22yd TD pass & we went nuts for that as well! If you’re a ][V][ fan you absolutely have to attend a game at The Big House! It doesn’t matter who we play bc come Saturday morning in A2 the city comes rumbling to life with Maize & Blue every where you look. Make sure if it’s a noon kickoff you get to the stadium lot by 9:30-10:00am & hunt down a tailgate party. I’ll never forget in 2005 when I went it was my first Michigan game & we were walking from tailgate to tailgate and I would offer people money for some food but was told repeatedly “your money’s no good here son. Anyone in Maize & Blue is welcome to all the food and drinks they want!” So if you’re a ][V][ fan & bleed Maize & Blue it’s without a shadow of a doubt a trip that needs to be made & it’ll be a memory for the rest of your life. Idk if anyone’s ever been to an NHRA Drag Racing Event where the Top Fuel Dragsters come by at 300mph but when they do your whole chest shakes & that’s the closest thing I compare being in The Big House surrounded by 115,109 DIE HARD ][V][ fans!!!

Melting like a snowflake while getting lit-up by Clemson. Nothing left for Woody to do but start throwing punches of impotent frustration! Hee hee hee!
