Brock Yates hosts a profile of Bob Tullius, race car driver and racing team owner who founded the Group 44 Inc. Jaguar car racing team based in Virginia. The Group 44 Inc. car racers garnered hundreds of wins and 10 Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) National Championships. Bob Tullius is seen at the Trans Am Champions, a series of road racing events meant to bring American made sports cars "like Corvettes and Camaros into competition with European GT cars like Porches and Jaguars." The Trans Am Champions included names such as Mark Donahue, Dan Gurney, Peter Revson, and Parnelli Jones, not to mention Bob Tullius, who won in 1966 at Sebring with the first Trans Am. In his youth, Bob Tullius was being looked at by the football team the Colts, but had a leg injury. Brock Yates joins Bob Tullius on the track for some test car racing. Road America Track at Elkhart Lake in Wisconsin, a 4 mile long track, which at the time was one of the most difficult in America. Race car drivers Nick Engles, Frank Joyce, Gene Bothello, and more than 60 other cars including corvettes begin to race the Elkhart Lake Road America Track. Tullius flys his plane to the Laguna Seca Track for another of the Trans Am Champions, road racing events on the tight, treacherous Laguna Seca race track. "This is a sport that is a mental, study in mental concentration much more than it is physical," says Bob Tullius. The Group 44's victory in the final Trans Am of the season in Mexico City, Mexico clinched the Manufacturers Championship for Jaguar.

Thanks for posting. The Group 44 Team was awesome, and Tullius an amazing driver. I am partial to the Jaguar XJ-S. I have a modified 1982 with a TWR Sport 6.0, Getrag close ratio 5 Speed and all TWR suspension and brakes. I am not surprised that it won the manufacturers title that year. The Jaguar V12 is nothing like its reputation for unreliability. It is a high revving monster that delivers amazingly smooth power. The XJ-S, when properly modified, is a steady platform.

Great clip, having raced Enduro Karts at Summit Point Raceway for 15 years it was neat to see the early part of this clip, sad they don't say anything about when Trans Am raced there, but such a great track to run on. Got to meet Bob once & loved his few fly byes in that P 51 Mustang he had. when Brian Redman put on the Jefferson 500 vintage races. Got out of Karting a few years ago but I still get to Summit point as much as I can to enjoy the Karts ,Bikes & Sports Cars. Thanks for the post..
