Its legendary but for me " Those drifters days are past me now. Ive got so much more to think about. Deadlines and commitment; what to leave in, what to leave out" punches me in the stomach every time. As i get older, its gets sadder every time i hear it

50 some years ago as a kid in school I fell asleep to this song in the summer with the radio next to my head. I opened the windows of my room, got off of the bed and laid on the carpet under that window and turned it on low while the breeze blew through that window. What a magical time.

@@joanmcdermott6798 Hey Joan! it'd be very hard for me to choose another favorite! There are SO MANY that could actually sing and their songs conveyed a message! Joe Cocker is right up there. He didn't have a lick of physical rythum(sp?) but damn he could SING!! BB King is the ONLY famous singer and guitar player that actually shared the stage with guitarist that he felt were GOOD and just needed that "one break" to make it and he GAVE IT TO THEM!! In the 60's and 70's we were blessed with REAL singers and guitarist that remain unmatched!! NONE of the singer's, especially female (remember Janis Joplin?) singers had to appear on stage wearing a couple bandaids and a cork or use a thousand switch soundboard to sound good. They also had no use OR need for a bunch of 'dancers' on the stage with them!! Because they actually had TALENT!! To anybody that reads this. Don't believe me! Check out the live concerts. Easily available online from back then to now!

Seriously. It's just one of "Those" songs that has this rolling back beat to it and it tells a story. A relatable story nearly everyone can find something to connect to. Has a nice catchy chorus and hook, good solo and a good interlude send off at the end. There's not too many songs like this out there. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird, America - Horse with no Name, Bob Dylan - Blowing in the Wind, Lennon - Imagine.... those kind of songs.

Carefree nights girl sitting close 8 track playing our favorite songs until they faded away from the fog covering the windows. Then you're vaguely aware of time and you wake up fat bald and old. I was born in 69 and heard every song by Bob Seger as my momma played him all through my childhood into my adulthood. We lost momma in 2019 and we played Mr.Seger as she took her last breath. It was such a beautiful way to enter heaven. Play on Mr. Seger and momma……. Fly on against the wind with your new wings!!!!!! 🙏🏼❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🏼

I'm 34 and feel like I'm running against the wind as he would say. Ive been playing guitar and trying to sing for years now. It's all worth it! I. One back to these songs frequently just to go down memory lane. Thank you Mr. Segar for all of your music.

She looked around and said not really, I said everyone is old...I don't care how old I am, this man's stories carried me through both the good times and the bad. In my mind the best singer storyteller of all time!

My name is Chris, and I had the pleasure of being backstage and having a beer with Mr Seger June 2nd 1996 in Pittsburgh, we spent 45 minutes together. When he opened the door and invited my wife and I in she meet his wife and it's kids Cole and Samantha, I gave him a hug and a kiss on the neck and I said Bob this is time number 10 and and you saved my life so many times when I I had the blues, I will come home from work and put on Stranger in Town just cry my eyes out for the Lord is how long. Then I said to him I am not here for myself I am here representing every single solitary Bob Seger fan there is and letting you know how much you love you and how cool you made growing up from immature to mature the ride how about lifetime! It would be truly a pleasure and honor to have Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band perform at halftime at the super bowl, all the best, to all my fellow Bob Seger, thank you for letting me share my story, Chris Bolla from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania 🎶❤️🎶🇱🇷🙏

Nothing else has caused such a deep change in my life like this song. I have described it elsewhere : It was in the summer 1980 a July morning in the car listening to the radio on the way from the hotel in Bad Homburg to a computer course in Frankfurt the speaker announced the latest hit of Bob Seger (for me than unknown) "Against the wind" I listened to it with not much attention but when it come to the line "I think I lost my way" it was like a lightening from heaven straight into my heart - it described exactly the spiritual situation I have been back then but untli this very moment I did not understand what my problem really was - a seeker trying this and that but nothing gave me a real answer. And now Bob Seger was sent from Heaven telling me - my friend - you too have lost your way. With this clear formulation of my situation I started seeking and in the end came back to my religion, to my people, to my country, to my God. Today I'm 73 and still listening "Against the wind" almost every day and - yes - me too - every listening causes me tears

Not sure if this was intentional on his part, but one of Seger's greatest talents is writing songs that only sound better and more thematically fitting as he ages. The sense of nostalgia and regret that can come with getting older are among the themes most often explored in his songwriting, and this song epitomizes that. He definitely sounded great when he first starting singing Against the Wind live in the early 80's (by which time he'd hit his mid-30's), but this performance is infinitely better due to the aforementioned factors. The older he gets, the more believable his delivery becomes.

A great songwriter and torch bearer for workin' folks. A born musician and storyteller, Bob has and always will set the bar by which all true troubadors are measured. A rock & roll legend to be sure, but at his core, a midwesterner with blue collar beginnings in the automobile manufacturing plants of Michigan. God Bless Bob and may he be "Like A Rock" for all those that dare to follow him into Katmandu...!
