Thank you for the video! Replaced my old solenoids with this retro-fit kit. I've always been impressed by the quality of your products. The video made everything very easy to do.

Thanks for putting this video together, bought a retrofit and this helped with install. The only thing I would comment on to help others. This is my third time changing out solenoids in 10 years. The problem is the wire connections keep shorting out the solenoids. They are cheap, not crimped properly and corrode easily. Even in this video a double crimp was used on the heat shrink which damages the material. A single crimp ratchet is what you need for heat shrink. This time around I, changed out all the wire to marine grade 12 awg. It came with standard copper wire. Also I used Heat shrink on all the connections, instead of the cheap nylons connections it came with and crimped them properly. I have already seen an improvement in corrosion control over the last 6 months, there isn't any. Take the time and fix the wiring, the rest of the product is awesome.

Please note that some years of the pumps need a 9/16" and some a 7/16". Have both with you to make sure you don't need to find another tool mid install!

Are the red and black wires from the grey sleeve supposed to represent the wires that come from the battery or are they supposed to be something else?

Will the larger solenoids fit on the aluminum backplate?

Depends on the year of the plate, if its the aluminum plate from the old style solenoids, the holes wont line up. But if youre handy you can modify it to work

A Frank marino On the old pumps : Brown is hot, yellow is down and green is up. On the new ones (since early 2000s), Red is hot, Blue is up, and Green is down. Easy to remember, green like grass for down and blue like sky for up :)

This video was painful to watch. Ughhh. What are the NAPA equivalent solenoids? I have the older style setup with the old back plate and of course, the solenoids are bad, as per usual. I will make a video that is way more straightforward, adding the new solenoids to the old backplate, without the mind numbing rock music.

We used a public domain music, can watch on silent. We dont recommend NAPA solenoids, or any non-marine rated solenoids, only our own Bobs units. Thank you for your feedback.

BobsMachine: I wasn’t trying to start a fight. Sorry for the insensitive comments about music selection. That’s an issue that needs no more discussion. The real problem is that everyone has to routinely replace the solenoids that were included with these units. Look at any marine/boating forum and you will find pages of complaints and work arounds for these flawed solenoids. If I was Bob’s, I would recommend buying my $25 + shipping solenoids at 100% markup, too! The upgrade kit is $80!? Since they will fail anyway, why not go to Napa and find the equivalent units for under $10 per side and keep a couple spares handy for insurance?

@@AlvaStrong no problem, the new ones have a stronger coil, internal wipers that keep the contacts clean, stronger return springs, and better weather seals. We do sell the new style solenoids on the website as stand alone units, dont have to buy with the new backing plate, but the new backing plate is metal VS original that is plastic, so its a nice upgrade. Call us with any questions and happy to help!
