“200 Dollars, and you boys drank $300 worth of beer” In 1980, a beer cost approximately $1.50. That means that the 10 man Blues Brothers band drank 200 beers, or 20 beers per person. The Blues Brothers then proceeded to have a high speed chase immediately after. If consumed during a 6 hour set, and if Dan Akroyd’s character weighed a mere 170lbs, his BAC would have been 0.52%! It would then have taken him over 35 hours to sober up completely!

As a musician for 45 years, I can tell you this film should be shown in music school of the performing arts. I played Bob's place many times. Beer bottles flying passed your head, bar fights and my all-time favorite was the night a bar we played got raided by the cops. One night a place caught fire and the band put it out. This movie isn't fiction.

Exactly.....I've played alot of cement block buildings with picnic tables etc. Ive seen places that were so country they didn't like things like the Georgia satellites or ZZ Top......it was Ray Price and Eddy Arnold for them.... I had a guitarist that would drink his pay every night.

Back in the 80's, when I was doing some training out at Ft. Sill in OK (I was just a kid from NJ), went to a bunker place like this. Sure enough, when the band played something not purely country (or western), the beer cans went flying at the stage ( yeah, they had cans instead of bottles - mostly). The only thing missing was 'Stand by Your Man'

R&B is just blues + dance music. Country is also a blues-based genre, with Western just being a geographical change from the South to the West (songs about cowboys and tumbleweeds instead of coal mines and freight trains). My point is they're all blues-based genres - country may not be as COOL as R&B, but if they knew their chops they'd know it's from the same blues family tree.

Lol...I think Farley was playing tribute to him when he played Matt Foley. He would usually say during these skits "I gotta get my stuff together". This movie had the funniest, and greatest car chases of all time. The mall police chase scene and the Illinois Nazi chase scene is priceless. "Do you have a Miss Piggy" and "and I always loved you" before the Nazis plunge to their deaths are priceless.

The Bob's Country Bunker sequence was a great representation of the small California town I grew up in. Every line, every shot... everything from the ''both kinds of music'' line to the guy crying in his beer shot. Light blue corduroy bellbottoms with cowboy boots, plaid shirts, padded ski vests and ballcaps. And their attitude towards anything that WASN'T country/western related. Whoever wrote this part did their research. My buddies and me laughed all the way through it.

There is {or WAS} a place almost JUST Like this in Mauston Wisconsin, where the stage was at the end of the room and YES it was covered in Chicken Wire, but ALSO Smaller Galvanized Screening because, {as we found out,} they DO INDEED Throw Beer Bottles! And the MORE they like what you played the MORE bottles they threw at the stage! The smaller screening was to keep the small glass shards from coming through the chicken wire! SHEESH! What's funny, is that I was the "New Guy/Drummer/Percussionist" in the band, and no one would tell my ANYTHING about this place! All they would do is laugh and say "You'll See?!" when I asked about it?! When we got there, was when I saw the Chicken Wire and Screening over the front of the stage and I IMMEDIATLY laughed and said, "OH MY GOD! It's BOB'S COUNTRY BUNKER! Then WE must be The Good Ol' Boys Blues Brothers Band!" But it was ACTUALLY a Great Night and we played there several more times and EVERY TIME we ended up getting paid even MORE then the original agreed upon amount! AND we drank beer and soda for FREE! LOL :D

He was pissed that they framed his head out of the "Think" musical number when he's playing his sax while standing on the counter. In the original script, Blue Lou was going to community college and working as a security guard at a planned community that was under construction. The band gathered there to rehearse, trashing a model home in the process. The Blues Brothers' solution was to have Duck make some homemade bombs to destroy the house outright and then Blue Lou commandeered a nearby bulldozer to roll over the wreckage so it looked like there had never been a house there.

I often wonder what Ghostbusters would be like If he would have played the role of Peter Venkman which was written for him. I imagine the script would have been changed a bit to allow him to showcase his physical comedic talent. I try to imagine him saying the Iconic line of "He slimed me." Murray did a great job in the role. Although I think Belushi would have taken it to a new level like only he could do. It's kinda like if Farley would have been in Grown Ups instead of Kevin James. James did well but obviously it was meant for Farley.

I'll never understand why Bob and the Real Good Ole Boys we're upset. They showed up hours late so the Blues Brothers saved Bob.

The Good Ole Boys were upset because they poached the gig, and Bob was upset because they still owed him for the beer. Plus it said so in the script.

I know this is gonna sound like pure bullshit, but when I was playing in a country band back in the 60's, we played the Red Dog Lounge in Freer, Texas. There really was chicken wire in front of the stage!!

Brother, that's no BS. Old style East Texas/West Louisiana country bars had chicken wire to protect the bans from flying beer bottles. Fact, sadly, not fiction. Aah, the good old boys..I mean, the good old days!

I just watched Ken Burns's PBS documentary "Country Music" and they mention that chicken wire wasn't uncommon for rowdy country bars.
