Bob Marley's Father

****** bob marley stood for one love, and for all of the people debating on race should just listen to his music and appreciate WHAT HE STOOD FOR. all this hate and discrimination is what bob marley hated

Respect to Bob. He couldn't deny what he was: half black and half white. It's easy. It's no big deal. The man did something constructive and legendary with his music to try and unite people and to spread the message of Rastafari. The man spoke the truth and nearly died for it. Everything for a reason eh? The mix up blood from his parents. Then he comes into the world for a purpose and makes a difference. He now lives on forever through his music and the message it conveys. You see how he lifted up Manley and Seaga's hands in the air and got them to shake hands at the one love peace concert? Now that is a very big deal. Love and respect to Bob. Thanks for making me proud to be black. You are a brother Bob. You come black in your mentality and actions, even though you mix up with white and black as a Half Caste, because your heart was with wanting to spend more time doing tours and wanting to spend more time in Africa. Big up Bob. Rest in peace.

This song "feel like a motherless child" has send my thoughts into the possible thoughts of Bob as well. Many of us goes true our transformation and thus becomes a different person, some may concluded that we've outgrown our way of thinking & that's the transition that shift our foundation. A personal foundation of a person is their mental & spiritual likeness & understanding of such likeness."Where's my mother gone,is she gone to the promise land or to a world of sin",has shown a spiritual Bob.

Thanks for the book recommendations. I never knew that Bob Marley's mother wrote about her life and that of her son. Whatever faults, Norval Marley may have had, at least he paid some money to the mother and child. That is more than many men do nowadays. Furthermore, without Norval and Cedella, there would have been no Bob Marley, and there would have been none of his music either.

Bob Marley's mother was black jamaican named Cedella Booker born in 1927,and his father was white Jamaican (with english roots)named Norval Marley born in 1895. Back then black people and white people according to what history says shouldn't be together so when Bob Warley was born in 1945 his father left him and went to liverpool in england if i'm not mistaken.

wallis adriaan His father actually did financially support both Bob and his mother but he was fairly old compared to Bob's mother and passed when Bob was around 10. Although he supported the two of them while he was alive he was not around much because like Bob he was somewhat of a wanderer and it is said he had many young women throughout the island. It is a common misconception that Bob's father abandoned Bob and his mother. He simply died while Bob was very young and was not around much to form much of a relationship when he was alive.

Hello people, there is a book which was originaly published in 1996 called, Bob Marley: An Intimate Portraite by His Mother (Cedella Booker) It contains those very same photographs and alo a picture of Bob's half sister. The main thing is, the book will end all of the unbelieving negativity, because this is Bob's mother explaining her side of the book. In my personal opinion, i believe in Bob's mother's story. All i can say is, just buy the book, read it, then you can make an opinion. HAPPY 71ST BOB! Selah!

+Count Robbie I believe Bob and other people in his family. He sister, bob's aunt and others. Bob mother seem to be speaking in fantasy. She was a 16 year old girl. Now do we think a 60 year old white overseer fell in love and married her and it was all good. More than likely it was not consensual. This man was a rapist, the same as many young black women was raped or forced by white slavers or white men in that day. Bob describe it this way in an interview, "It was some slave shit, my mother African, (Black and my father white). I only saw him once". He never did nothing for him or the sister, whom he did not even know he had. This man was never a Naval Captain but a Private in the Army and a low level one at that. There is no marriage license anywhere of the her being married to Bob's father. This is 1950's Jamaica and we know better than that. This man supposedly sent for Bob when he was 5, he arrived on a bus and was pick up by his father and given to an old woman. He was seen running in the streets of Kingston. A friend told his mother. His mother came for him months later and found him in the streets. The father had given him away as not to have his family disown him because they heard he had a black baby. He wanted him to disappear. You need to read the truth because no one else is telling the fantasy she is telling including Bob. No disrespect .

Well Bob's mother is dead. They say the dead can't lie. Of course Cedella's father was angry at the time of hearing that his daughter got pregnant, that's why, in order to make things good with Cedella's father, Norval married Cedella. How did you aquire the information you mentioned? Like i said, get the book, read it, then make an opinion. I'm only going by what i've read. I don't think as you said that Bob's mother is a fantacist or a lier, because Bob never trusted no one except his mother. So with you labeling Bob's mother as someone speaking in fantasy, that mean that all mothers must be in a world of fantasy. All i know is that mother's know best. I don't think your right, and maybe i'm not right either. I think we should just let sleeping dogs lie. My guess is, if Bob hadn't come into the world the way he had, maybe we wouldn't have a Bob Marley. I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reson. I respect your opinion, i hope you respect mine! Regards!

Count Robbie I think you should look at what came out of Bob Marley's own mouth. That is what he said. I have read every Book on Bob Marley. The only one I would count on is the one Rita wrote. Other books do conflict Bob relationship with his mother, she was gone a lot. Some of those books are not telling the true story. Her sister is on film and her story is in conflict with hers. Esther Anderson is on film saying Bob's speaking of his father was not nice. Don Taylor talks of Bob telling stories of his relationship with his mom as not being great all the time. If you read that book you would know what he said. Rita also allude to things that were not so great. That have nothing to do with his love for his mother. She was 16 a black girl on a plantation where a over 60 year old overseer got her pregnant, are we to wondered what happen. This was not a love story. We not only have Bob own words but we have only to use our common sense of slave history and the aftermath of continued exploitation and oppression. Jamaica was steeped in poverty, slavery and caste system from slavery and after. This man gave not a damn for this young girl of 16 who knew nothing of life. He got babies all over the areas he supervised according to many accounts. If Bob had not come into the world that way the Messiah would have brought him in in another way. He chose this way. Bob being part white has little to do with his being a Messenger for his people. There has been plenty of Black and half Black Messengers. Bob indemnified with everything that was Black and African in his music and his words. He never hid his thoughts to satisfy anyone. Bob's white family did not acknowledge him, told his to get out according to Rita and never acknowledge him while he was on Earth. Now his family do not have a relationship with the white Marley's because they don't want one.

@toperamen8 no no no no, he supported him economically, he couldn't see him often because he was a plantation manager in Jamaica and that required him to be across town all the time...

I really don't care what your views are. I will still enjoy Bobs music. No matter what vile "afrocentric" hatred you spew out.

@72KLEW He never changed his perspective. He was always a person of color and was always subjected to the things that people of color in a white conquered land are subjected to. Just because a person doesn't always talk about the issues we face doesn't mean we're unaware. Usually when I hear people talk about not caring about race it means someone is not willing to look at issues related to white supremacy, racism, prejudices etc. Racism can be very obvious, but usually it is subtle

wow, someone said that whites are just trying to identify with bob marley because of his music and popularity etc thats why whites are saying his father was black. marley's music and the whalers for that matter was international, it belonged to EVERYONE that was working class.

Wauney you’d be surprised. I feel like a lot of Jamaicans have relatives from different races. Here in the UK anyway, a lot of white men have Jamaican partners (including myself)
