My daughter’s Mn women’s team was at Illinois. I went there to see her off before the game. Turns out the Indiana team was at the same hotel. I saw Coach Knight in the lobby as the team was leaving. I said hello Coach Knight, good luck. He acknowledged me and said thank you. He was a big man. Tall. I like him!

He was a winning coach mainly because he always had better players, but he was an arrogant a$$hole. Case in point was he stood and watched freshman Larry Bird walk away from Indiana and he was proud of himself that he never tried to stop him. Probably cost him 3 national championships.

thats kind of a silly thing to say, he was for sure at disadvantage in recruiting, very few players became anyone in nba , like 2 ...

Knight left out the fact that he put hands 🙌 on the student. It wasn’t the first time he’d put hands on a student. His ego got him in trouble.

@@myrmidon76 Bob Knight had a history of having temper problems. His bad behavior was tolerated because he was a winning coach. Finally, because of negative media coverage and student complaints the university put him on a Zero tolerance policy. A little while later Knight was walking in the hallway at school and some kid shouted out, “Hey Knight”. Bob felt disrespected and put his hands on the kid. Knight was unapologetic and the university fired him. He has only himself to blame.

@@user-ok9ue8gp6k this reads like a chatgpt created response...I'm not saying it is, but it's suspicious. I am very aware of what happened with Knight. I grew up in Bloomington. I lived there when he was fired...and there was a hell of a lot more to the scenario than just what was reported to news outlets. Thank you for the retelling, but it doesn't change the fact that the man is dead...and all this is for nothing but views.

@@myrmidon76 Nope, I have a good memory. He was a great BBall coach. He seemed to have a lot of integrity as far as players getting an education. I’m sure he had other good qualities as well, but he was also a bully and a hothead.

That was the final straw. It was the totality of his bad behavior that got him fired. Years of horrible actions and words. If Indiana University did anything wrong, it was not firing him sooner.

I don't get people who still worship this guy. He wasn't George Patton, he wasn't even Herb Brooks. May he rest in peace of course. Larry Bird didn't want to play for him, and you can't say Larry didn't have a work ethic. I have had hard-ass coaches who drove you relentlessly but you knew they had hearts of gold an cared. Then I've had sadistic psychos who never felt comfortable getting out into the world beyond high-school and college. I think Knight just liked bossing kids around and with a lot of such cases he developed a cult of personality.
