Bob Keeshan as Captain Kangaroo on Mister Rogers' Neighborhood (Mr. McFeely Interview)
In the early 1970’s, Captain Kangaroo (played by Bob Keeshan) appeared on Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. Robert Keeshan started his career on commercial television as Clarabell the Clown on Howdy Doody. He brought along puppeteer Gus "Cosmo" Allegretti to play Mr. Moose & Bunny Rabbit in the Neighborhood of Make Believe. (Edited by Kent Baker)

Around 1975, id watch captain kangaroo, Mister Rogers, sesame street, the electric company & zoom -everyday on PBS :)
Two late, great legends of children's television...both dearly missed
Never knew Captain Kangaroo made an appearance on Mr. Rogers. That was wonderful!
When two legends come together.
Two of the sweetest and most wholesome shows ever.

Amen
mr moose and bunny rabbit in the land of make believe? 2 worlds collide. my head just exploded.
I used to fake sick in 8th grade just to stay home and watch Captain and Mr Moose. When I’d hear that theme music playing, it was so cathartic. I had won. Then nighttime would get so depressing. Can’t fake two days in a row. Not that good of an actress. I went on to be a teacher and sometimes when certain students weren’t in class, it’d bring back memories that made me chuckle inside.
I grew up watching Capt. Kangaroo & Mr. Rogers. Two wonderful role models for children.💖

I honestly believe, that Rogers and Keeshan were a calming influence on my Boomer generation of kids...Maybe they even were responsible for the upcoming hippie situation, with the emphasis being on kind and loving towards other people. I new a kid who grew up in a bad household..lots of verbal abuse, drinking, etc. But the kid so looked forward to escaping in to programs like this, as a child. Sad, but true!
This made me cry...
You know, I think we were some really lucky kids, but we didn’t know it at the time!

Some of my best childhood memories involve Captain Kangaroo & Me. Rogers. So sweet to watch this and be reminded of simpler times.❤
i grew up with this stuff
The 2 most important men on TV.
The best of both worlds ❤️
I loved both Captain Kangaroo and Mr Roger's, this brought so many happy memories back. Thank you!🙂
I wasn't expecting cross-over episodes . 😁 The faces of my childhood .!
Very sad these two icons are gone now and young people 35 and under have no idea how important they were!!!!!
They don't make shows like these anymore.
RIP Bob Keeshan and Fred Rogers.

Thanks for all the memories, Gents
I wish kids today had something like this. What great memories growing up
Two icons - beautiful
I am blessed to be old enough to have seen the very first Captain Kangaroo, as well as the first Mickey Mouse Club shows, both of which started in 1955, when I was five years old. After the Captain closed for the day, another children's morning classic appeared, Romper Room with Miss Josey, which started at 9:00 AM, "when the clock looks like a chair without any legs", as she used to say. Even though I was five, I was inquisitive enough to ask my Mom, why Romper Room wasn't on at 3:00 PM, when the clock ALSO looked like a chair without any legs. I was told that it only worked when the chair sat against THAT wall, and not when it was against the other wall. That was OK with me, although I wanted another Romper Room. These were the days before reruns, and WAY before such things as VCRs and especially streaming. If you missed a show in those days, that was it, you missed it. In many ways, it was really a simpler time than today. I can remember going out all afternoon riding my bicycle and being told be home before dark. That was it, just be home before dark. Can you imagine that today? Now you can call your kid on his/her phone to find out where they are. No portable phones then for ANYONE. All phones were hardwired into your houses walls. I can remember having to sit with my Mom waiting for a man from the phone company to install a second phone in my poarents bedroom, so one or the other wouldn't have to run downstairs to the one phone in our kitchen. I used to watch Mr. Rogers with my son when he was little, on the rare occasions that I was home during the day, as I worked.
Born in 1972 loved watching both! Captain kangaroo was in the morning and after school was Mr. Rogers! Wished we still had them to teach the younger generation

To add to that…teach the younger generation proper appreciation for what was, rather than continually delving into what is. Wholesomeness is lacking in many areas these days…
Captain Kangaroo and Mister Rogers? 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
I was born in 1961. I remember watching Captain Kangaroo when I was little…I absolutely loved the show.
I loved the Captain. I watched him every morning. brings back great memories
Unspectacular. Simply engaging and comfortable. Often enlightening.
Grew up on Captain Kangaroo, back in its black and white days!
I watched the show every morning & I still laugh when he does the ping pong ball bit
Two legends iconic in every way. Brought happiness and love to millions of people.
I remember watching that episode as a child!

@@SwiftFoxMedia Bob Keeshan was a narrator in the 26 CBS Storybreak Episodes.
Every morning before I got on the bus was Captain Kangaroo time.
I watched Captain Kangaroo back when it was in black and white, and it sparked my creative bent for the rest of my life. Indelible characters like Mr. Green jeans, and the grandfather clock, and Mr. Moose and Bunny……..it was wonderful.
Mr. Moose!!!!!!!!!!! 😁
I was watching both of them back when most folks still had black and white tv sets. Not to forget Peanut and Knucklehead, Good old Mr Edd , Beanie and Cecile the seasick seamonster. No matter what terrible things were on the news from the Vietnam war and rioting, I had my shows, my mom , grandma and my siblings. Treasure your family, you never know when they will be gone.
Mr Moose!!! SOOOO funny! These two gentle souls--Mr Rogers and Capt. Kangaroo--together. Iconic.
I was born in 1970 but I was lucky enough to watch both of these weekly daily shows for children captain kangaroo 1st and then Mr. Rogers.
I watched Captain Kangaroo in the late 1970's.
Legends!!! The world was better when they both were teaching us kids how to love ourselves!
Loved both shows when I was a kid wish kids tv today was like that again
Love the fact this is produced by a local high school!
I loved both shows. I watched the Captain in the morning and Mr. Rogers in the afternoon. ❤❤
I watched both as a tot in the early 70's. I loved Mr. Rogers show, he was great. Captain Kangaroo had a lot of things that made them different, one being an hour long show.
Thank you for sharing. I never saw "Mr McFeely" out of character. Fascinating ...
I used to watch this as a kid and I loved it. And I still love those episodes and miss them very much.😢
How did I miss this?
LOVED CAPTAIN KANGAROO ! And how he would read. Such A Great voice. And MR. GREEN JEANS too !
I started school in'67 and so I watched the Captain but Mr.Rogers' show went national in '68.I never had a chance to check his show out,and do was unaware that Bob and Fred were friends and that ever appeared on Fred's show!!What a treat for those kids that caught both shows, huh?!!!?
RIP Bob "Captain Kangaroo" Keeshan, and Fred "Mr." Rogers. Thanks for all the memories, Gents
Would love to see Captain Kangaroo, Fred Rogers, and Bob Ross together…Three wonderful souls….
Grew up watching all of it, what a wonderful childhood.
Kids today need Mr. Rogers and Captain Kangaroo. ✌️
I have great memories of watching him(CK) in the morning before elementary school in the 70's.. I could time the arrival of the school bus outside my door to the ping pong balls falling on his head. Good times!
My earliest memories of TV was Clarabelle and Howdy Doody!
I'm 65 and Captain Kangaroo was my Mr. Rogers. My son loved Mr. Rogers. I had no idea that they were ever on in a single day as I see in the comments. Times were so much simpler then.
I remember all these shows and watched them all growing up. Out of these 3 I enjoyed Captain Kangaroo more.
Captain Kangeroo was one of the fondest childhood memories I have.
Two of my favorite people as a young boy. Thanks for posting this video.
It's hard to recognize him without his Mr. McFeely costume. Ironically, several of Captain Kangaroo's staff later worked on Sesame Street. Mr. Rogers was one of many celebrities who did short "Good Morning Captain" bits in the 80s. He was feeding his fish. We miss them both.

Miss that innocence
Awwww. Miss them both!
I watched both shows in the 70s.
I was born in 1982 and vaguely remember watching Captain Kangaroo. I just looked it up and it seems I was watching reruns.
Damm I miss this so much! 😢😓😰🙏
Two awesome guys!
Oh Lord I remember this!😂😂😂I was born in 1959!!!😂😂😂
O......M......G!!! I never knew this! CK was my guy...I watched him every day! And then Mr. Rogers became available to me a little later.....but I also watched Hobo Kelly, Bozo and Sheriff John.....in fact, my mother sent my name in to Sheriff John so that he could read my name on the air for the birthday list! I would have lost it if I ever saw that show where Captain kangaroo visits Mister Rogers...I almost did just now, haha! I've often wondered if they knew each other....it's nice to hear that they did and were friends....and had that New Years tradition!
I watched the good captain as a kid and Mr Rogers
I loved captain kangaroo as a kid. I loved howdy doosy too.
I can’t watch this well or see to type this out. My eyes are blurry with tears…
I remember the theme song "It's Howdy Doody Time", and watching Captain Kangaroo and, of course, Mister Rogers NEighborhood. I don't remember too much of them, though,
Nice,I enjoyed both shows 😀
It’s 2023 and I am 58 and I never knew these two ever met on the show. It’s like if they made a live action Spider-man meets Superman movie.
2 of my favorite
I was a little girl when Howdy Doody was on and I remember Clarabell the Clown.
Awesome 💖💖💖
I remember the Captain!
Loved Captain Kangaroo
They should really make a feature length documentary or biopic on Captain Kangaroo in the same way they did the Mister Rogers biopic. I think William H. Macy or Sean Penn would mke a good impression of Captain Kangaroo.
American Saints
Bunny Rabbit and Mr. Moose were performed by Cosmo Allegretti, AKA "Dennis, the apprentice." Mr. Bainter the Painter was Lumpy Branham, AKA Mr. Greenjeans. Cosmo was always there, but you only saw him occasionally. I hope Cosmo was the one behind the characters on Mr. Rogers too.
I remember the episode of Captain Kangaroo on Mister Rogers.
Didn't Mr. Rogers also appear on Captain Kangaroo.

No but captain kangaroo was the original Clairabel Clown on the Howdy Doody show. He never spoke until his last appearance on the show when he turned to the camera and said with a tear in his eye and said " goodbye kids "

He did indeed, in a 1975 episode where the two restored an old phonograph...even sang It's You I Like during his appearance!

Mr. Rogers later returned the favor by appearing on Captain Kangaroo in 1975, helping CK to restore an old gramophone.

I never saw Mr. Rogers. I watched Captain Kangeroo.
Capt kangaroo had a beatle hair cut ahead of its time.
Clarabell is actually a chosen girl's birth name, today.
I sure wish someone like these two could do a show for kids today....but people like those don't exist anymore....sad...
Wonder why he didn’t have on his trademark red blazer???
Wonderful even though Captain Kangaroo's aussie accent is unconvincing. It is nice to see due appreciation of an Australian marsupial. (How did American kids even know about the existence of kangaroos? Via Winnie the Pooh storybooks, perhaps? Many kids from many countries could not point to Australia on a map, one suspects: it is a little-known continent, reasonably good at sports, cities, deserts, islands, opera, big-ness and unusual animals...)
🙏 🤲 ❤️ ❤️ 😢
I don't remember seeing this.
