Exactly. And ProG commenting that only those companies with billions and billions of dollars just sitting in their deep pockets, and only these companies, will be able to build these data centers. How many are they planning to build? Who supplies these data centers? Cooling systems...who makes them. Not to mention the chips they'll need to fill these centers. Lots of players in this. Exciting times.

Small point but not sure why Scott said the US is the leader in renewable energy? China leads in both production and installation, but maybe he is referencing a specific cut of the data that I haven’t seen

Where did he say that on the pod, do you have a time stamp? He talked about the US being a lead energy exporter but he didn't bring up China on that segment. He was comparing the US to Japan.

Yeah, 7:40-7:46. Not trying to nitpick too much - all sorts of ways to cut the data but that stood out as either something I hadnt seen or a slightly incorrect data point (maybe he meant total energy, not that the US was leading in both FFs and Renewables)

For the most part, yes! (Good Q) But looking at Ember data, china produced more than 3300 TWh in 2023 (nuclear & renewables) whereas the US only produced 1700 TWh

I don't understand why Pivot is way down in podcast rankings? Much of what I hear on the Monday episode was already discussed on Friday's Pivot show with Kara.

Regarding datacenter supplier companies, theres: Eaton, Schnider Electric, Vertiv, Cummins, Caterpillar, Starline, off the top of my head. Basicallty, electrical gear (transformers, breakers, distribution panels, bus bars, UPS, generators), and cooling. Maybe Tate for raised floor. Samsung and LG for lithium batteries. Evapco for cooling towers.

Yeah yt algorithm promoted the TED talk, which I thought was excellent btw, please keep it up. Its everyone's data (photos, text, gps track, voice, everything) that makes 'compute' valuable. I think the amount of data gmail harvested gave google a taste of how valuable data could be and whatever year google shit canned Picasa was really the beginning of the end... Thats my 2ents and really does break my heart to have seen it.

I think Scott's perspective on the ultimate conclusion makes a lot of sense from an American perspective, however, as an American in China who really delves deep into the knit and grit of the countries policies/ideology both past and present - I think its unlikely. The current leadership (which is basically one man) is highly ideological and unsophisticated. They/he would very much rather let Byte dance lose all of that money and not allow the sale of tiktok for the sake of not being seen as complying to the US demands. 100 bill (the estimated valuation of Tiktok) Might be a lot of money to Byte dance, but not a lot of money to the CCP as a whole.

6:20 Sounds like a good reason to be a RNDR / RENDER node operator. Not sure about speculating on the coin but would be good to be a part of that infrastructure.

Having been a 5 star Airbnb host in NYC I believe the woes are seriously starting for the company. You mention a post covid plateau which may be valid but I’m fairly sure the revolt in big and now medium to small cities against renting properties through Airbnb is gaining steam at an exponential rate. Soon, perhaps 20% of the hosts will be able to endure the massive levees being foisted on them by cities and communities that want to garner significant tax revenues, lower rents for longer term residents and stifle multi property investors/scoundrel landlords.
