100% agree. I've been saying for years that Supercross has become synchronized aerial ballet. Glad I'm not alone in that.

The FIM took over our racing, "had to" force the 12 national track owners to make all the tracks soft dirt, (not statistically possible with the freedom to build what they want). and design the SX tracks to keep everybody the same speed. Policy comes from principles, and principles come from some kind of philosophy. The FIM philosophy is socialist/communistic, where everybody gets a trophy, and nobody is suppose to be great. When is the last time we heard a racer say "I am going to win this race/series."? They don't have the confidence to say it anymore. But Jett---is the great individual that those terrible philosophies are not holding down,--and he is ticking off the FIM, I promise. :) Doug in Michigan

Bob talked with me like I was a professional racer, and I had just made B class. He was very humble and just a class act.

Met Bob in 83. He spent 10 minutes with me looking for my son to give him an autograph. Nice guy!

What a character! We just don't get this level of personality and honesty these days. Fantastic video.

That is because Bob is a confident "individual" with his own brain. Today, we have one big, stupid, collectivist brain and it is "politically incorrect" to use your own to figure out reality,---so we don't.

Fortunate to be at unadilla in 86. Hannah and O’mara greatest two motos ever. The two of them traded paint the whole time. The only rider on the lead lap was Billy Liles in third place in both motos. Thanks for some great memories Bob.

Good interview, but is hard to hear the questions being asked. Please mic up so we can hear the questions without having to turn up the volume. Thanks for the good interview.

Went to watch my 1st motocross in Illinois to see my cousin race in 78'. I was hooked! He gave me his magazine collection the next year and I became aware of my future idol Bob Hurricane Hannah. I ate, slept, rode, lived, raced, dreamed Bob Hannah. Met a similar individual spectating at same track (Wapella) in 80' we are still tight. First bike a 75' YZ80 IN 79'. Rode Yamaha till 85', then went red. Was devastated Bob got 4th at my first national Red Bud 82'. But did get to see the Hurricane stomp 'am all @ St.Louis 83'- I'll never forget the intensity! Started working at a Yamaha dealer in 84'. Thank you so much for this interview. Thoroughly enjoyed Hannah speaking truth like John Wayne. Bob Hannah changed my life for the better. Quit racing but still ride, dig Singletrack now, two-stroke always.

A bob hannah interview is like a bigfoot sighting. Great job! Always loved that animal. Named my daughter hannah in '90. My ex thinks "we just liked the name." But my daughter knows...

One of the best, if not the best interview of a motocross legend. Hannah's intelligence and humour is like his riding.

Hurricane is a true legend, as a kid I looked up to Bob like he looks to RodgerD, I still do, to me he is the true GOAT and I know he would say otherwise, I don't think anyone today racing holds a candle to him and I don't care what stats say, he raced in a harder era with deeper fields of true talent true works bikes, true competition by OEMs from everywhere in the world he raced the greats in Europe and the US, the tracks were harder, the bikes were tougher, the travel was harder, life was harder. If not for a freak accident he probably would still be on top of the stats boards, he should have won in 83, he was so far ahead of anyone, I have never seen a season like it since, including RCs undefeated seasons James and Jetts, they were 40 minute motos then not limp 30 minute motos like today, not cookie cutter style tracks indoors and outdoors, true tracks that had true challenges to find the best bikes and best riders! SX and Moto seasons were mixed and the depth of champions in that era and factory works riders, 4 per team, plus, there was only one SX class no kids class fake riders hanging out for a paycheck you raced SX back then, ALL the riders raced in the same class to be the best of the best, no matter what your age! They were titans among men of today! You cant compare skills, of today vs then, these men or kids today couldn't do half of what Hannah or others could do on a bike then, if they could have what they have today then, who knows what shit they would have invented, technically they were better, the only rider/s technically I have seen in the last 20 years as good were Reed, Dungey and Jett Lawrence, out of those only Jett has changed the game, yes James Stewart changed the game and no one since has matched what he could do on a bike, maybe even speed on a 125, but in 250s 2t and 450s he lost that edge, he couldn't stay on the bike and he didn't win title he should have dominated, never even won a back to back championship! out of the 3 mentioned only Dungey and Jett have, Jett is ahead of the curve on all stats, but another factor with Bob, often overlooked for me, is in an era of no internet, no facebook, Instagram and other social media, when the World relied on papers, radio mostly to get news around the world, 3 athletes I will never forget in history remain in my head, "ALI", "Björn Borg" and Bob Hannah! Now I loved all 3 of these sports, but as a kid I would not be able to buy the magazines all the time, I would read the articles in the News Agents and put them back and sometimes, I would save up my milk round money, mowing lawns and doing paper rounds to buy my first MX bike by 8years old and buy a copy of MXA to read about and study Bob Hurricane Hannah, I was obsessed, with his riding style, I tried to ride like him, I owned Yamaha's even switched to Honda after he did, which I never thought I would do, I thought the Yellow Black YZs were the coolest shit, yes the Works Honda's took it to another level, but even todays those Yellow black OWs are some of my favorite colors, last best Straight Rhythm with Kenny on a Replica OW of Bobs was the best I have seen since and he eve got Fox to mock up his gear to match the JT gears of the day, so sick, I never thought Id leave JT gear either but I had to have HRP back in the 80s because Bob wore it, if he rode it wore Id somehow want it and sometimes get it, I bought all my bikes with my own money, no one bought em for me or my gear, I choose my gear, I bought my gear always from the time I could ride a bike, my old man told me if I got a bike, if it broke, I had to fix it, if it needs gas I had to buy it. the only thing my parents got for me re my bikes was transport sometimes 3-5hrs away to a shop for some reason, usually the only time I saw a dealer was when we went to the big smoke for Moms shopping and Dads supplies and they would either leave me at the theater or leave e at the bike dealers, my preference was the Yamaha shop usually, but any bike dealer that would put up with me back then, the only time I choose the theatre was end of 77 when Star Wars came out! But thank you for the interviews, I could watch another 5 episodes and not get bored of Bob, ever, most of the stories I read or heard many times before, Id love to hear more of what we haven't heard, there is definitely allot more, lastly I would like to add what also makes Bob unique and I never got to experience this unfortunately, but have heard it many times, I have seen it in magazines and seen it in the crowds with legendary banners I have never seen a racer before or since have, is he was a man a racer of the fans and for the fans, stories of him staying behind after races hanging with the fans, even back when others thought they were too good to be with the fans, not Bob, no one I can think of since or today, does that, he did it for free and probably gave them the beers and shirt off of his back too, he didn't charge for donuts or fan zones, you don't need that shit when you are winning the money and fame take care of itself, Bob never forgot what or who he is he didn't pretend to be anyone and he fob the fans off or tell the fans what they wanted to hear then act otherwise, Bob Hurricane Buckwheat Hannah NEVER forgot the fans and that's why he will always be my No1 GOAT on and off the track, no one else came or comes close! 🏆

For any future wanna be motocross champion listen to these words of wisdom. He's spot on!

Hannah is authentic and a champion. You can tell by his attitude. No nonsense and tells it like it is. I liked the Barnett story and you could tell he respected him. Thanks for the publishing the interview.

These are fantastic interviews. Kudos. Would love to see more. I would really love to hear an interview with Horst Lietner. Guys like him are the real hero's of mankind. How about "Joe Montgomery", (the past CEO of Cannondale), so we can get his side of the story, about the only bike made in the USA and the barriers they ran into. I don't think he would paint MXA in a good light there, and he would be right, (if you read that "hit piece" against Cannondale in a bike test.). Shame on us.

I could listen to Hannah talk about moto for hours. Fantastic!

Probably the best old school motocrosser interview I've seen, a true honest character of a man. I only wish and was waiting for some kind of mention of his later Suzuki years as that's what I remember of him most thanks to my age. Especially his Unadilla win with Suzuki. Great interview.

When I was about 10 years old, I met Bob Hannah in a Marie Calendars restaurant in Reno, NV. He, someone else and I think maybe his mom(10 year old perspective) just happened to be sitting at a booth behind me and my family. He didn't hesitate to talk to me and sign a magazine for me. He was a nice guy when he didn't have to be. Also watched him race at Virginia City in 81 or 82 and I'll never forget it. Legend.

He hasnt changed a bit since i met him in the 70's, either love him or hate him, he was an inspiration to me for sure. Totally driven and determined, really smart how he collected his money from yamaha as well.

He ain't lying. The Ohio mx season was 6 weeks long in the Seventies. Late May to early July. Summer time when tracks dried out and got dusty, no one wanted to race. They was no watering or track maintenance back in those days.

Those '82 -'85 RC's were incrdible. Bailey leaned his on the fence behind the statr gate at Gainesville fla in '84 after winning the race . I stood on the otherside and of the fence and was in awe as i gawked at this alien , outter space machine .* then Glover rides past ..... riinging , dinging , and pinging 😳 bob made the right decision to leave yam , and Hansen's devastating injury opened the opportunity he needed 👍

Rolled RJs RC250 off the track after Hawthorne landed on his wrist (sic), at Gatorback,,rolled so freely,like it didn't even have a chain on it.. Asked Dave Arnold, he grinned said shhhhhhhhh , uber trick bearings.,and the SUCH. Great Hannah talk, .long live 'buckwheat Bob' !.Rick Chew says so

Seriously. Honda should produce a limited production of the great Honda works bikes of 85, while the generation, still with some money, is still alive enough to get one. His personality is the reason why he was as successful as he was.and he’s right Rocky Marciano was not the best boxer all the time but he had technique that adapted to his opponents he was in better shape he could hit take a hit but he had heart more than anything that’s Bob …

Back then, most parents had no idea what the sport was,---and bikes were inexpensive enough for us to buy new bikes making only $1.00;hr part time---like I did for 6 years (and 3 new bikes from 76 to 1980, starting at the age of 12.)

Totally agree about the riders, especially the great europeans of the early mid 70's......the BEST days of motocross....open face helmets, carrera 98's, and jofas.....

I met Bob in Calgary Alberta in I think 81 or 82 and I said nice to meet you Mr Hannah and then he says the names Bob everybody calls me Bob too funny Marty and Bob were my favorite riders still are

Once again reflecting on the early mid 70's era by mentioning CMC at Saddleback and Carlsbad....especially the 125 class....the bumper sticker and CMC license (still have mine) didnt say "Ride With The Best" for nothing.....like I said the BEST era, glad I was there, participated and, witnessed it with my dad...R.I.P. pop's

I saw Bob Hannah let David Bailey win 2 different races at the Minnesota national outdoor in the mid 80’s. He clearly had David beat then let him by on the last lap.

Saw him in 82 at Red Bud. He got caught up in a 1st turn incident and was dead last. I forget where he finished, but he passed a lot of guys. You could literally see the difference in speed between the leaders and the Hurricane in the corners.

I missed that. My first pro race attendance was Red Bud in 85, and Bob was not his fast self that day. Only time I saw him live. Still bummed to this day I did not see him at his best. Same with never seeing Magoo race also.

My favorite memory of him was when he broke his front brake at Unadilla, and came back from last place to win, with only a rear brake.

I loved those days . I had a 76 Tamie. Loved Hanah . Bad ass

Injuries and now deaths on MX tracks, high prices of bikes, all caused greatly by the EPA forcing the faster 4-stroke on the industry. Yet we can't sue a dictatorship, even if the results of their policy is injury and death. Real justice is but a memory in my mind in the USA.

My hero iam 46 novice levek rider at 46 yrs old but i love riding. Id hand bob my cr250 and say lets ride. Id ride my 79 yz250 or my 250r 3 wheeler.

The takeaway for me is that someone can be as good as Bob Hanna, and not find the need to play the word-salads game, coloring everything so that everyone will like him, he tells is as he sees it.

We don't "do what we want" anymore in the USA. We can only do what we are allowed to do. If that is the past times that we enjoy, recreation, that we still have a little control over. But for one example of thousands, if you want to make a car, to compete with that nationalized industry,-------as Tucker and Delorian found out, you can't "do what you want". Now Tucker and Honda were en cut from the same industrial cloth, and Honda now is huge. So I ask, if our own congress did not destroy Tucker to keep him from competition, how much opportunity would he have created, one man, in the USA? We do not do "what we want" anymore. We can only do what we are allowed. It is called a dictatorship.

They have turnd super cross in to a gladiator sport they want to se riders get hurt. It's all about the show now. They don't give a shit about the riders
