Yeah, this was the song that changed my whole life and turned me into a lifelong Dylan fan. After that I bought every record he made...including all the earlier albums.

I've gained a new love for the song after hearing all the Cutting Edge takes of it and realizing that they got exactly one complete take of the up-tempo rock version like 25% into the session, and even that has a bunch of mistakes audible in the individual tracks that they just powered through; one of the best Bobs, always.

Yes, Miss Lonely's apparently dire situation....her fall from the heights...could actually be her deliverance. It could be the escape she desperately needed from a life of artifice, excess, and delusion.

Great video as always. I read the other day that the Collector's Edition of the Cutting Edge bootleg, included all the live recordings available from 1965 as a free download. Are those recordings available elsewhere, or do I have to buy one of those 5000 copies of the Collectors Edition? 😅. Thank you.

Probably about Edie Sedgewick, I think... But it could have just been the distillation of a generally angry feeling he had at the time. Or maybe it's actually about him! At any rate, it works. The chord sequence is C...Dm...Em...F....G.... (if you play it in the key of C) . Or it's G...Am...Bm...C...D (if you play it in key of G.

The way you recited those lyrics had a slight Trumpian inflection and now I'm going to think about that and laugh every time I hear this song.

It's 5 chords ! I remember it. C , Am F Em. It's in C ! People love to join in. It's in C. So that's all the white keys on a keyboard. Piano. Basic guitar. It's easy to play. On wikipedia it offered some good insight into the track. Perhaps he write it after touring England and returning home exhausted. It quite a mocking tone of voice. I really don't know why people think that's cool. That guy who mocks everyone. Then eventually meets his Nemesis. I hope. Because "really wasn't where it's at!" Bob Dylan. Like A Rolling Stone. Let's face it Bob ? Music just is not where it's at right ? The money is in Show Business. And the fun ! Oh dear. I can't top him ! 😊

Edie Sedgwick and AW? Maybe? Perhaps, as I think you may be suggesting, perhaps Bob is himself Miss Lonely? How does it feel? Now you are here at bottom-with me...Didn't I tell ya? I tried to warn ya. Sucks don't it. Well, here we are. All alone. All of us, alone. Sho, sho. But not stuck here. Hell na. We can roll baby now baby. We free! Whoopee!
