Lyrics:
Oh, sister, when I come to lie in your arms
You should not treat me like a stranger
Our Father would not like the way that you act
And you must realize the danger
Oh, sister, am I not a brother to you
And one deserving of affection?
And is our purpose not the same on this earth
To love and follow his direction?
We grew up together
From the cradle to the grave
We died and were reborn
And then mysteriously saved
Oh, sister, when I come to knock on your door
Don't turn away, you'll create sorrow
Time is an ocean but it ends at the shore
You may not see me tomorrow

My brother Lyle died of cancer August 2020...we weren't on best terms when he went...heard this song late one night on the radio...felt like my brother was singing it to me...I almost broke down it hit me so hard...

I’ve heard this song and that line before but today it really hit me and I felt like a hard shell around my heart was breaking open and releasing me. Very emotional.
Dylan captured gypsy spirit on this lp more than any other. Emmy lou singing with him is killa. Brings tear 😢 to the eyes.
My little brother passed away this year and sent me the song right before. I miss him so very much.

I bought the double blue album of Dylan's greatest hits. Yeah. But I got this from Desire and then Blood on the Tracks. And those two, especially did it for me. Where Series of dreams came from...I don't know, but that song of his especially, (In video form) touches me greatly.
Just beautiful and sincere Im one of 5 daughters Am the eldest Unfortunately i dont really get on with 3 of my sisters I love them dearly My dad was a huge Dylan fan, hence my upbringing on his music ❤

This song has the best range of Musicality and Harmony that I know of, with Emmylou's voice melding with Bob's and Scarlet's violin melding with Bob's Harmonica. The Harmonica is such a coarse instrument, how is it that Bob plays it so melodiously? I love this song, I love this Album, Sara, Hurricane. It is among the top 100, if not the top 10 record albums ever. What album casts the range of feeling, depth, emotion, time and geography as Desire?

I am adding something in my sister s memory. She loved Bob Dylan and his music. She had an understanding of it. I would beg her to play and sing it. Sometimes she would and sometimes not. When she started listening to him, I knew nothing of him but I learned to like a lot of his songs. Melody passed September 24, 2020.

Good music is immortal my young friend. I empathise because as a youngster of eighteen I discovered Bob Dylan in 1986. Here was I connecting with songs written in some cases between 1961 and 1966. I wasn't born until 1968 but it felt like I was walking on a pre ordained path. And it goes on. Others will come after you and tread where we have trod. But heck, yeah ... it sure feels good. 👍👍👍👍
Songs like this are why Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. I agree with Patricia : “Dylan is America’s poet!”
Desire is something special. Not my favorite album of his, but it is definitely one of the most memorable ones.

This album was my initiation to Dylan's music when I was 12. It was ingrained in my mind more any other.
You never could admit I was part of the family and you could never admit WE ARE ALL RELATED. And that is the really sad part about all this. Not that Ripple ever existed or was played but that those players never really got what it was all about- like everyone being actually connected to everyone else and made out of the same stuff. RIPPLE!!!
