Lyrics:
Crimson flames tied through my ears, rollin' high and mighty traps
Pounced with fire on flaming roads using ideas as my maps
"We'll meet on edges, soon, " said I, proud 'neath heated brow
Ah, but I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now
Half-wracked prejudice leaped forth, "rip down all hate, " I screamed
Lies that life is black and white spoke from my skull, I dreamed
Romantic facts of musketeers foundationed deep, somehow
Ah, but I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now
Girls' faces formed the forward path from phony jealousy
To memorizing politics of ancient history
Flung down by corpse evangelists, unthought of, though somehow
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now
A self-ordained professor's tongue too serious to fool
Spouted out that liberty is just equality in school
"Equality, " I spoke the word as if a wedding vow
Ah, but I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now
In a soldier's stance, I aimed my hand at the mongrel dogs who teach
Fearing not that I'd become my enemy in the instant that I preach
My existence led by confusion boats, mutiny from stern to bow
Ah, but I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now
Yes, my guard stood hard when abstract threats too noble to neglect
Deceived me into thinking I had something to protect
Good and bad, I define these terms quite clear, no doubt, somehow
Ah, but I was so much older then I'm younger than that now

So young like most of the great poets. Youth lends itself to passionate, raw emotion. Age dulls those emotions.
He was 22, yet had the ability to realize he DIDN'T have everything figured out and owned up to it. Very few artists in their 80's have that kind of self awareness.
The Poet Laureate of the late 20th Century. His lyrics allow your mind to think freely.

Yes, that's true, songs can't save the world......( Perhaps, the "Saviour" can, but only if we human beings are not so bent upon destroying it...) But, let's leave this business of "saving the world" out of it for now. This song, songs, music, across genres, is about joy, fun, sharing, creating a more positive feeling, reducing the negativism in the 'individual' mindspace..... If the songs help you feel better, get better, hear them.... Or. pass on..........! Let's not get into saving the world..... Please!
Dylan will never be gone ,as I said to a street singer blowing in the wind will be played in a thousand years time
the older i get the more i am impressed with his early recordings. how could a boy as young as Dylan was, write all that stuff with so much insight? and his guitar playing is perfect while not. there's something VERY special going on. he's got to be an old soul. not his first rodeo i suspect.

This was one of my favourite songs when I was a hotheaded 16 year old religious nut. It was beautiful and it sounded like something profound, but I couldn't understand what it meant for the life of me. It was only after I sobered up from the dogmatism of my youth that I was able to make sense of the lyrics and realize he'd been talking about me. And God, did he capture my condition well.

@@LuchinoMalaparte89 And who are you?
Bob realized that in order to grow as an artist he needed to free himself from the political movement he was associated with. He realized that writing protest songs, while good in and of its self, would end up being an artistic cul de sac. He had already written several immortal and timeless classic protest songs. He had reached that peak and said all he had to say. He was right, it was time for him to move on. Yeah man, dont follow leaders, watch parking meters !

His songs stand even today. Dylan is a prophet. I was elated when he went through a different and deeper spiritual journey. Trials of mankind. His words speak even if he wasn't totally aware himself of how much and to how many. Certainly spoke to me. To each their own. Free choice is yours.

He also pointed out that if they can kill JFK and get away with it they can kill anyone…but I prefer your version of events Andy
A song conjured by a uniquely gifted writer & performer, on the cusp of a frontier of comprehension of the complexity of the problems facing mankind that we have completed failed to grasp & is now culminating in our ultimate destruction. I have lived a relatively fortunate life & will be content to have these lyrics playing out in my final moments 😌

TLDR
I had the pleasure of hanging with Bob in NYC in the 60s especially at the Cafe Wha, energetic house bands play at former hangout of Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Allen Williams & others. I was so fortunate to find so many special artists in the 60s as friends I became a writer. We go back to N.Y.C. together for always. Back to Pennyslvania for awhile, life changes to find then off to Hollywood where I met the rest of the best artists in the world only to return to my roots of the city. I will never forget you Bob. Now I'm written of over 10,000 writings. I would have to beat him at his own game and I did. haha I had a lot of help along the way. This song reminds me of my military time.
