There are better singers out there - technically better vocalists - but he sings with his soul and every line is packed with pure emotion. I love this song.

Yeah, the 'don't' instead of 'do' in this line makes all the difference. And the way he delivers it is so haunting. Actually, he sounds near to tears nearly throughout the whole song. And I'm usually joining in whenever I hear it... The only song of his that hits me even harder is 'Abandoned Love'.

I wish the he wouldn't object to the world knowing who she was. She was a troubled girl that caught the whole town and really could have done great if she allowed herself to get help. The other people at the time remember her. He just denies that she inspired him because A. He was already in a marriage (went into hiding) and B. she was falling harder into drugs and falling further into him.. He really didn't have any intention of doing a film with her, Heide and Grossman which has been documented by many involved in preproduction. She found out about the marriage, they broke it off and stopped the movie. He went into hiding, and she began filming her final film with some of his other contacts before falling deeper into drugs, orgies and depression (between being in and out of rehabs). Its not his fault she became an addict and couldn't get straight without the proper support and love. But I feel that she at least deserves to be acknowledged by him considering how obvious it was to everyone else and how in love with him and invested she was,, even if she was challenged to insanity with the addiction to fame, sex with anyone,, drugs etc. Even if he couldnt love her that way and he couldn't save her. So many other people tried. Despite her falling off the deep end and being trouble, she really fixed herself up before she died and I feel like he should honor the fact that everyone else knows they were involved in a way that lingered for both of them.. weve all been there.. just own it Dylan. You don't have to tell the world.. just don't be mad that other people were aware and it got out. Its cool man... RIP EMS.

This piece of music, lyrically, is simply astonishing (for me). Everyone can relate to the pain of a breakup, and this song has become so cathartic for me . Especially given my current circumstances 😥 It takes a lot to let someone go, but the decision may haunt us the rest of our lives.

Oh my fucking god, in another life me and you would have been good friends, not many people would randomly go from Bob Dylan to Eddie vedder except me and apparently you, both very intruiging people with a brilliant sense of great music... And funnily enough I went watching Bob Dylan and Neil young at their festival in London the last time they played there and turned around to my girlfriend and said now the only person I need to see is Eddie vedder, then they put tickets up for Pearl jam concert at Hyde Park the same place I saw Dylan and Neil young, this comment to just randomly read, really resonatedwith me.. You're not alone. I like the simplicity of this. Its just a genuine expression of affection and tenderness. His voice betrays so many emotions. Frustration, bitterness, loneliness, regretfulness. @@waltford8353 start to focus on yourself. Get your life back in track. Where you think you need to improve, improve. Hit the gym, get a better job, learn a valuable skill, take up a new hobby. Just improve your quality of life. Get into meditation. It takes time, but it gets better.

I just had something amazing and beautiful with a fantastic girl, I still have very very strong feelings towards her and she has all the good stuff of kind person and a keeper. There's good people out there, it is rare to find them but it is possible. We had something, so short yet so sweet that it hurts so bad to be alone again but I'm happy for her and we both part ways amicably. Now I still think about her a lot and I guess time actually helps you heal but I'm still dealing with quite a lot of pain. Anyway, I can't stop thinking about the message in this song, which is how I feel right now. It definitely destroyed me, but I also respect what happened and now she and I have to keep going little by little. It hurts, it sucks and you have to cry a lot but that is that. Just try to be kind and a good person everyone, you guys are beautiful and handsome people

The whole song is darn near perfect, but that beautiful mandolin and 12-string guitar work on the outro elevates it into another stratosphere. What an amazing, brilliant talent...

I think that many would disagree, pointing out albums like "Blonde on Blonde", or "Bringing it all Back Home", or even "Times they are a-changing"... For me, this is very close to being the best. It's hard to tell. I'm fan of many early Dylan songs, and I also love Tempest (2012) and Rough and Rowdy Ways (2021)... Not to mention "killer" albums like "Desire" or "Slow Train Coming"... ehhh hard to decide

This has to be one of the most beautiful songs ever written

with a pain that stops and starts - like a corkscrew to my heart - ever since we've been apart - amazed that it took 4500 yrs of known history for someone to put it so short and succinct - unless I missed something'

In my eyes..there will never ever be a better or more important songwriter to have ever lived. Many many thanks to Bob.

what a masterpiece. Dylan is the most beautiful songwriter in 20th century. Right up there with Vivaldi and mozart.

One of the essential sentiments on Blood on the Tracks. That album explores every conceivable pain of a true love break up.

I still remember the time when we drove through the desert in Morocco listening to this song and how excited you were when we finally arrived at Tangier. But just like the lyrics of this song, we had a falling-out, like lovers often will. And just like the lyrics of this song, you still live inside of me, we've never been apart.

Had it on rewind in 🇮🇹 1976-77 .perhaps that's why it happened over and over. Killer song. No ill will, just wistful disappointment. Sometimes you're impossible , sometimes they are, sometimes it's the timing, and totality of circumstances . And sometimes you will never know.

I remember when my older brother Mark brought this album home we played it over and over I became a true Bob Dylan fan and have remained one for all these years thank you thank you so much

It's amazing to me how many people have a favorite line from this song for me it's although our separation has pierced me to the heart she still lives inside of me we've never been apart. The song still affects me the same way as the first time I heard it Bob Dylan rules

"Boots of Spanish Leather" might have been a "prelude" - he's the chronicler of ALL OUR DAYS. - and I still think of him often

mortimer zilch Oh my ... his mood is ever so present as in viewing a Painting.. you can hear exactly where he is ... how he lays it down into chords using notes instead of oils to paint his version of a Painting. ....

I bought this album on LP and Cassette at The Mushroom in New Orleans in 1975 while working on a cargo ship, loading in The Missisippi/New Orleans. Still is my definitive favourite amongst Dylans albums.

An absolute gem in an album full of gems. Poor Bob, but we all got this artistic masterpiece from his “separation” to last forever.

'Oh, whatever makes her happy, I won't stand in the way Though the bitter taste still lingers on from the night I tried to make her stay'... Sometimes I think I've been lucky enough to live my life while Dylan sang these gems, so that my feelings could find a voice...

This is just one of the fabulous songs that make up Dylan's brilliant "Blood on The Tracks." 😀

Man i can't believe Tracy is gone. And see Ted being touched like that broke my heart

My favorite album and the song that lifted my broken heart many more times...say to me that I am alright...🎶🎵no one's ever tried to make me stay... I learned to turn it off...

when i think about it, in all the moods and different favourites you can have in the moment, this is probably my favourite dylan song, and one of the great love songs written, and a joy to play on a 12 string guitar. haven't heard it for a while, but it's timeless

I always thought of this haunting song as the update of ‘Boots of Spanish Leather’.

I'm George's wife and to say that we both love Bob is such an understatement. We fell in love while listening to this album-almost 50 years ago- and are more in love today if that's possible. We named our son Dylan-and he named his son Dylan. Its not just my favorite Dylan album-its my favorite album of all time. It "still brings me a chill" every time I listen-and I listen to it a lot.

The musical composition, the lyrics, the vocals, the production ... put all that together and average it out and you get Dylan at his peak. Highway 61 was the work of a genius; "Blood on the Tracks" is the work of a master craftsman.

One of America's finest all-time albums.... along with CSN, Joni Blue, The Dead American Beauty. A national treasure.

In my top 10 most romantic and all time favorite songs, EVER. Boy Dylan is the living legend master.
