Join us, Daphne and Ian, as we embark on our new chateau renovation projects! This week, we take a look at an upcoming winter project in the Hunter's Lodge and continue uncovering the stone facade of the Farmhouse. We venture into the chateau moat on our little boat so we can address a growing problem on our dungeon window.
Our beau chateau (The 500-year-old, Chateau De Lesigny), is located near Paris, France. Most of the structures around the chateau domain need a full restoration, so we are investing everything we have into making the property thrive! We are learning more about french culture and developing new skills along the way!
As a French/American UC Berkeley graduate in Agriculture (Daphne), and a U.S. Air Force Tactical Response Force Veteran/ Kinesiologist (Ian), we share a love for challenges and adventure. We have a long road ahead of us and we are excited to share the experience with you!
You can support our renovation projects by joining our Patreon Community, where you can also gain access to exclusive videos and behind the scene access with Daphne and Ian! All patron funding is used to renovate this historical French Chateau. Every patron is paramount to our chateau renovations and we thank you all tremendously!

Vinegar works great. I use 1 gallon vinegar 1 1/2 cups Epsom salt and 2 tablespoons blue Dawn Dish Soap. It kills the weeds in 2 days and is pet friendly. Your channel flows with so much ease. It is a joy to watch you grow, restore your chateau and keep your grandpas legacy. He must be so proud of you.

Tip for the ivy. Get a 1 or 2 meter rod that you can attach 550 cord (parachute cord) at the tip of the rod. Ram through the ivy as close to the wall, gather both ends of cord, attach to your tractor and pull vines off the wall. Really helps if you cut the base of the vines and wait a day or so for them to die. For your cobbles I’d add salt to your weed killer. Think Romans and Carthage. Happy Veterans Day to you too!

You guys manage to make even the most mundane tasks enjoyable. Your videos are always so enjoyable with fantastic cinematography ❤
Your videos are such a pleasure to watch, its like taking a peak into another reality. It has just a touch of mystery that reminds me of Christine McConnell (she leans into the glamour spooky, but the visuals and story telling are equally compelling)

I love how your kitty acts like the watch guard and the kitty inspector. Same with your puppy. Your choice of music is relaxing and a comfort to watch the video. Garden vinegar (30-40%) mixed with a smaller ratio of water is what kills weeds. Works best if sprayed on a hot (70°) day.

Vinegar does work! There is a scientific paper on the subjekt and also it is used in many swedish communities just because it is not poison. There is special vinegar you buy ready to use. You have to treat several times (just like burning, the roots are still intact). In new areas to treat you have to treat minimum 2 times a season. Do not use salt.
The recipe for the weed killer is 1gallon white vinegar, 1 cup table salt and a generous squirt of Dawn dish liquid. I love your channel. You guys are doing an amazing job. The place looks great
As I said last vlog 1gallon vinegar, 1cup salt, and tbl. Dawn. That's what I use on mine. Once does it.
You’re without a doubt the best pirate I’ve ever heard of!

You two are so 🥰. Thank you for serving 🇺🇸 🇫🇷
Standing up in the boat as it's pulled along made me think "Washington Crossing the Delaware". Gondoliers never have these problems! And they can always get pizza in Venice!
The vinegar and water combo worked well for killing the weeds and random grass growing in my brick terrace. Have to be honest, I thought Daphne was going overboard when she went backward in the boat. You guys were having too much fun. 🙂
Ian. Thanks for your service. I enjoy watching how you both have so much fun working together . Ian I am glad you didn’t fall in the water. Love the video Thanks James

Fun video (as always)! Here in CA Wine Country we struggle with Ivy invading the redwood , oak and pine trees. We found that (if you have time) that cutting out about 12" of the main vine at the base (where the ivy vine enters the soil) and waiting a couple of weeks the entire vine dies and pulls off the tree (or a building) easily and does not damage to tree or structure. Viola! When you are removing ivy growing 100-150' in the air on an old redwood tree it needs to be as easy to remove as is possible. LOLs! Thanks for providing my French moment today. Merci! (BTW thank you [and the thousands of others who have served] for your dedication.)
satisfying time lapse of removing all the ivy. Happy veterans day, from one vet to another.
A lot of the other chateaus used torch blower to burn them. The grass bits that grow up between the cobblestones
Chateau Sunday is now complete. You two gladden my heart.
You are just such a lovely couple, and I so enjoy watching the two of you as you go about doing your repairs.

I’m glad you didn’t fall in the moat! Great video you two…..thank you for your service! 🇺🇸🙏🏽❤
Another great video even if it was all about tackling weeds and ivy. I use dawn dish soap, vinegar, water and epson salt to keeps weeds down around our fire pit. Thank you for your service!
The vinegar method recipe is 1 gallon vinegar, 1 cup of salt and one drop of Dawn dish soap. Must spray generously directly on weeds during a warm sunny day. The sun helps the weeds absorb the mixture and thus helps kill the weeds. Works best in small full sun areas so I'm not sure this would be the most cost effective way to solve your problem. Best of luck to you both! P.S. I just found your channel and LOVE your videos!!😍😍 I've been binge watching for the last 3 days! Can't wait to see the rest!
You got a lot of “accidental exercise” getting these jobs done. Another wonderful video. Thank you for your service Ian!
Salt goes into the water and vinegar solution. A little bit of dishwashing detergent helps this mixture to stick to what you are spraying. Best of luck, Ian!
I haven’t laughed this hard at 6:00 am in a long time well worth the watch
I could watch videos all day of your beautiful property and of course your château! Thanks

If the vinegar and water combination doesn’t show any results, then we might add a little salt. We want to be very careful to not accidentally etch the stone with a low ph. Dish soup seems like a nice addition as well! Thank you 😄
Thank you for your service. As you can tell by my avatar, I was in the Navy Seabees and also did a few years in the Army Reserve. And yes, I was anticipating one of you to fall in. Good job.
Here is a recipe for natural weed killer . I hope it helps Items you will need: 1L white vinegar 3/4 cup salt 3 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid Jug to combine ingredients Watering can or spray bottle to apply onto weeds
Absolutely love you two! Just finished watching a second time. Ian’s story about the spiders was hilarious. Such hard work but little by little it will get done. Thank you for your service, Ian. Maine USA
May you always work together so joyfully. Bless you. Be careful being on a ladder and the long reaches. I shudder when I think back on the risks I took in painting high ceilings and didn't want to move the ladder for the last little bit. Better to be safe. An old grandmother from Alabama. 🥰

A roof burner on propane gas would also be effective against all the plants on the canal walls. I use it as a alternative for using poison. Compliments for the camera work etc. Impressive!

Thank you! Ian has a lot of fun shooting B-roll for our videos 😊 We have had a few viewers comment with the same tip, so now we really want to give then propane torch a try!
Y'all are so stinking cute. I'm loving your videos!!! Sending love all the way from Texas.
Maybe keep the boat closer to the water? That was so much fun to watch :)
If you cut the ivy at the bottom, and leave it for about a week, the ivy above the separation will all die back, making it a bit easier to remove. Consider Boston ivy, or Virginia creeper, which does not ruin building exteriors. Loving your channel from Mexico City.
We use a propane torch to burn the weeds and it works extremely well. No direct chemical contamination and they rarely grow back. More importantly, it can be used on the stone path and the building itself. Well only on stone aspects, lol....
I recommend filling the cracks with patio sand. That might help greatly. Also, it’s much easier to cut the base of the ivy and let it die before trying to pry it off. It will come away from the building with less effort.
Such a beautiful place..❤
You both are so cute and smart. I love watching your progress .
Y’all are delightful and thank you for Recognition of war🇺🇸 veterans. Wishing you the best with your winter renovations, safety first.
Tip1: get a pressure washer surface cleaner attachment. It will save you MANY hours of labor. Tip 2: if you cut the bottom of your ivy and let it dry it should be much easier to remove.
Looking forward to watching your renovations but it’s the newly discovered garden I’m looking forward to seeing.

Thank you for joining our adventures! We are very excited about the garden and will be continuing to work on it this morning! 😄
Your groundskeeping projects are really paying off. Paving takes a fair bit of maintenance, especially since weeds only need a thin layer of organics to return. May I suggest you acquire a large sprayer backpack for your soon-to-be semi-annual vinegar sessions? (The addition of salt and dish soap will help.) I think the service courtyard will be an asset for film crews - it could really be turned into a village set, couldn't it? Also - your filming skills are very good, and very enjoyable.
I love all of your videos! This one was especially fun to watch with you both navigating the ivy on the boat! I love your attitudes and connection you two have together. It's so amazing to see you rejuvenating this Chateau. I look forward to the next video! 💛

Guys, guys... you should have some recreational divers to look for treasures and artefacts in the moat!!! =D
Great job on all the work you've been doing. I am obsessed with the outdoor time lapse. Building looks great without the ivy! Wow! I really enjoy your videos. Keep up the great work. 💛💛💛
With all that vegetation material that you clear out, have you considered getting a woodchipper? It would give make you lots of great mulch for the gardens..
Clip the ivy branches. down to the ground. In time the vine will dry up and it will be so easy to pull off the wall without damage to the wall.
Thank you for your service, Ian
