So...I'm no one...but I Am part of the fam and proud to be. I work on aircraft and after this video I called my boss. Piston engines are piston engines, so.... you said 90% of what he said after I told him what was going on. You've got a great start and might be on the right track. Only thing different he said was try and warm the engine up(barrel of water or earmuffs with water hose) and THEN do a compression check. In "HIS" opinion the bleed down isn't NECESSARILY a concern. Busted head gasket COULD give less compression. But if you can, warm the engine up and them do the check. That's how we do our compression check on our cessna 4 cyl opposed engines. I pray this helps!!!!

Agree warm it up first than check. DONT TAKE IT OUT AND RUN IT, YOU MIGHT MAKE IT WORSE. May be a easy fix.

Also use the rubber compression hose, you went from metal to Rubber I think I saw that the rubber conpression hose has the seals on that I didnt see on the metal one.

Do a Sea Foam Hot/Heat Soak first. Clean up the valves

that's a compression Guage it is useful to tell if you have bad compression. that Guage leaks off by the valve you pressed. You need a leakage Guage to tell what percentage of leak is bad or acceptable. You do that test by using shop air to blow into the cylinders. The tool you need is a water system pressure tester which would pressurize the water side and let you know if your head gasket is leaking by the water gaskets into the cylinder. Compression for balanced cylinders and water pressure for the cooling system are two different systems. please don't let someone try and tell you that you need a whole new motor. look up some videos about both systems. This problem could be a very easy fix

That's not the proper gauge for a leak down, it has a check valve that keeps the pressure in between the hose and the gauge, your cylinder won't be holding any compression during the compression test if that makes sense

Glad I’m not the only one that inevitably forgets something when I get up in the boat… I consistently get a work out..😂😂. D, have no fear, you can dive in and handle the head gasket, your obviously very mechanically inclined. Taking the boat out probably won’t show anything that you don’t already know. You got this man 😊👍👍👍👍

I tend to suspect the gauge is leaking down on # 's 1 and 2. .. but.. Excessive carbon build-up between between the valve and valve seat could/will let air escape, from both the intake AND exhaust valves. You "may" be able hear the air escaping from the exhaust or intake air filter/throttle area , which will help zero-in. Bottom line... Moar testing. Go straight to the Cylinder leak-down tester from jere on out. Like another commenter mentioned , it's probably worthwhile to do the Seafoam treatment , which would help clean the valve. valve seat fit. then complete re-test. , using the leak-down tester. JMHO> Do a sea trial/fishing test with the Seafoam and re-evaluate. Watch the temps carefully, carry the cellphone and have "alternate plan B at the ready. Keep it positive , And Good luck!😀😀

Suzuki are relatively easy to work on. Order your parts and service kits from browns point marine (great price and include anodes, pumps and consumables). I reckon pull the head off and see likely a gasket but can't tell until heads off. If you can't work it out then hit up a dealer will save some mechanics time which will save some $$.

When i worked on my brothers Suzuki, I ended up having to split the motor because his used a timing chain and its between the motor and the “transmission” for the prop… it was easy enough to do but i got hurt in the middle of it and i had to guide my brother how to put it back together while i limped around with a busted knee

Bucket in shim motor if thay were tight it would have no compression remember the prop has a hole air gos in it's like a crock pot water in side store motor up right to drain no body dos this no more forget if you whate a minute or so put back down water will come out the prop 🙋🎣

Take off your fuel/water filter, fill it with seafoam, hook some muffs or water barrel deep enough to cover your water intake. Run for 10-15 minutes or let get to normal temperature. Then retest with a compression gauge from NAPA or The snap on guy. If you use a barrel make sure your water hose is in it lightly running.

Great video . But whn doing compression test your gauge is all going to leak down. Tht being said if u really want to ck each cylinder leakage u need todo a cylinder leakage down which u close each cylinder and fill it with air 😉

Good to see you doing some work yourself and teaching us some things that can save money instead of Busting Out Another Thousand. Can’t wait to visit from TX next month. Also, if that tester is a bargain deal, it could be leaking at the coupler. I’ve had that issue with some air compressor couplers from Harbor Freight.

I believe I got that one from harbor freight. my mechanic got almost the exact same readings as I did. only one cylinder ran higher psi than what I had. So, its pretty good for the most part.

You should take it out on the water. When you do the water test have Ron come with the Mako in case you need to be pulled back in. Also if the boat runs ok make a video out of it and do a fish competition against him.

Great content brother! Just a FYI…the “leak down” that you are seeing is not the cylinder leaking, it is your gauge. You can unscrew the whole thing and it should still hold pressure. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

I dont think any kind of cleaners are going to help, any kinda amount of water in a cylinder is never good. Running it like that is rising the chance of losing the entire engine. After all that tear it down. If you can work on all that other stuff, this shouldnt be any harder.
