Someone who teaches boating told me how to tell if you're on a course to collide with another boat: "If the boat doesn't appear to be changing its size or placement in view, then you're on a direct collision course for them." I can't visually imagine this, and it's driving me crazy. Like, are they saying "If you're going one way, and at exactly 2 o'clock is the other guy, and after a few minutes that other boat still hasn't left 2 o'clock, then you're on a collision course." or are they referencing something else? Also, how the heck do you collide with something when the size doesn't change? If it's far away and small, you can't hit it. I think he meant the clock direction rule or something. It doesn't make sense otherwise.
