Boat Builder's Incredible 20ft Shipping Container Home

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

A 20ft Shipping Container can be a challenging space to work with when constructing a home. Thankfully, with years of experience building super-yachts and racing boats, shipwright Evans is no stranger to working in small spaces and when it came to building his own home he has done a truly spectacular job of, quite literally, thinking inside the box. I love all your vids but this one, I would like to thank you and the gentlemen particularly. I lost my last remaining family members, my Grandma, Mum and Auntie and I have also decided to after watching many alternative ways of living, to live in a narrowboat and also have a van conversion. I move in this week but have really had a bad week, feeling that I have done something stupid, as I sold the house to fund it, the house my Grandma left me. Hearing this gentleman speaking and his reasons, I understood exactly why he has done this and in return I understand why I have. It is impossible to understand how the death of someone we truly love has on us but also the affect the person's illness has on us leading up to this point too. I feel like this has been a message for me to discover tonight. A message that those we love and have passed completely understand. Death and how we cope with the grief, changes us and how and where we feel peace and the importance of living in Now. Please if you can, Thank this man for his openness and sharing his story and home. I Get It ! xxxx

    Please accept my deepest condolences, you're losses have been great and apparently recent. I'm sorry you are regretting the path you've chosen to head in, try to find some peace around that. A few years ago I lost my brother, my cousin and my father all within 2 months. That was a couple years after my wife suddenly leaving me. I was very lost at that time, but have slowly regained my "balance" and now find life happy and meaningful. It will get better, just know that. Meditate, pray, and never let go of gratitude. Peace.

    Love the shipping container ideas.. Keep them coming.. My son is considering building one. I have considering creating one over the next few years as a "fun" retirement home. All I need is to locate a suitable block of land. Totally love the concept of this one here.. Yep the craftmanship was awesome as was the design concept.. I think the large blue one that IQ Container homes made, and you showed, is great albeit probably a bit expensive. But building it yourself could be done cheaper I am sure. I could see making an even larger one over time similar to her one.. Keep the "L" shape idea and deck then put another 20footer on top for a master bedroom space and have "decks" on the roof of the L shape unit would be fabulous. Of course that no longer becomes or qualifies as a Tiny Home! ;-) ps.. Solar power systems are so expensive in NZ !! wish they would come down in price like they have in USA and UK.. Maybe you could do a "special feature" on solar power systems for tiny homes!!

    Hey! Sorry, only saw the first part of your message and didn't read on! Yeah, everything is much more expensive here in New Zealand. It's all just scale of economy, plus the fact that items need to be shipped so far and so incur all those additional expenses. It certainly makes it a lot more difficult to build on a budget here!

  • @kiwicomposer

    You are not wrong there. Plus overseas profits on sales per item are less than here because they look at profit on overall turnover and so they make less money per unit (maybe 3% to 5% net ) but lots of money overall on the overall volume of sales (millions). Here we look for far far higher unit profit levels because we simply don't have the volume of sales.

    What a brilliant builder. Yacht building certainly would make good money. But nothing like the money you could make with a start up company making retirement homes from containers that can be installed any where in the world. They would hundreds of thousands of oldies who could not afford a home & rented all their lives, or home owners whose kids have gone and now they want just a small place they can move as they feel. Imagine large caravan parks that cater for such homes. Old containers now enjoy a 2nd life (excuse the pun). Suddenly a new lease of life for trucking companies who move them.

  • @MoDa87

    @MoDa87

    7 жыл бұрын

    Well there won't be specialist companies as it's just a container. I love the idea of being able to move about as I like. But even more I like the idea of being able to expand my home as I need. So when I need an extra bed room for guests or a child I buy one of these. And when they want to move out they take it with them as their graduation gift and never have to pay rent. Don't need no building permit or anything like that.

    I agree with the guy who did this video, the guy who built this has skills from building yachts and it served him well on this beautiful home! I have 3 40 foot shipping containers that I plan to build a bunker out of, might have to keep one for a surface home! Would love to do this above ground and even below the surface!

    i had a friend who buried one for 15 years and used it to grow in. It was genius.You had to slide the dog house and climb down a 8ft ladder to the container.Hooked up an exhaust port on the side off the hill it was layed on.Good hidden grow box that yielded nearly 12 pnds every 3 months until he shot a worker in the face and is now in San Quinton penitentiary for life.Dont use a shipping container for growing weed in.

    I did. I love Fat Freddy's Cat and haven't seen it in a long time. He's Fat Freddy's cat, he ain't no kitty. He can make it rough if you wanna be shitty, etc., etc. So funny. It took real skill to build this. Is there an AC? There must be or he would bake in there in summer.

    I live and have built a shipping container home here in Thailand, I used two 40’ and two 20’ insulated containers all galvanized, with a 1.5 mtr spread down the middle. All sat on concrete elevated piles.We have a large kitchen very big dining room, two enormous bedrooms, with ensuite , a gym, storage room and a movie theatre room, even a veranda with a stairwell. Solid and super quiet, a brilliant idea if you are serious,

    It really is a great use of space, and very cost effective. I live in southern Ontario and home prices have gone absolutely crazy. You can't buy a detached home anywhere in Toronto now for less than $1,000,000.00 and even if you drive 80 km north a detached home will still run over half a million dollars. So how the hell are the young people suppose to find an affordable place to live. Even rents will be skyrocketing due to the cost of carrying a home and the increased tax revenue tacked on by the government will add to the problem. I would love to have a shipping container home to call my own instead of being worried sick about where I'm going to live and how I'm going to afford the rent. I really hope the local governments relax existing bylaws to allow this type of dwelling.

Surely this is an answer to the housing shortage we have all over just now. It must be very comforting to have so many memories of Rosie built into this beautiful home. God bless them both. XX
