Generally, yes. Unfortunately there are enough dumbasses out there that cause them to have to patrol and check. Get rid of the dumbasses and the rest of us can fish in peace. Sadly, the guy is a little bit arrogant and resistant. Get ‘em on board, let them do their stuff and leave. If you got nothing to hide then it’s a quick visit.

I was thinking about getting another boat, but this vid reminded me of why I got rid of my last boat. Couldn't stand being spied on with binoculars and worried about losing my driver's licence for enjoying a few beers.

I get it, been on the water for 45 years. However there are tons of fvucking arseholes on the water that shouldn't be and they get their due when they get busted. Also these people will be there for you when you need help the most...been there too. Love-Hate but in the end I'm glad there're there.

I know the feeling. 4 years ago I was boarded for a “safety inspection” 3 miles offshore on my sportfish by the U.S.C.G. Legit day like theirs. Was asked if I had any firearms on boat. I did legally and then all hell breaks loose. 4 on boat searching around and was asked to shut my mains off so they can crawl around in engine room to inspect. I refused due to safety of my crew and vessel. After being very hot the engine room they continued their stupidity for about 35 more mins. Look I know they have to do their job but sometimes it is out of hand. 3 men on a boat doing nothing out of hand. What pissed me off was their approach to the stopped vessel. Come in like the clappers rocking the shit out of them. Calm down guys! It doesn’t ruin the day but puts a dent into it. Thanks for posting.

Same thing happened to me in Australia been fishing for 30 years and last summer they inspected my boat 10 times. Before that 3 times in 30 years. They don’t want people enjoying fishing it’s a joke. Government

You sir are their problem child, everyone else just gets on the deck and spreads their cheeks when approached. Try that with my local LEO here in the States while wearing a sidearm with 30rds in it, it's legal but, they always try. You could do what I do, you are one of the few that know their rights and responsibilitys, and won't back down. Thirty years now they have been looking to disarm me, so far, it has not worked. This was fun to watch.

Usually if youve been boarded recently just show them the recent paperwork and they dont usually wast time doing it again

I quit fishing and crabbing on the Chesapeake Bay every time I went out I was boarded by the Maryland DNR and the U.S. Coast Guard. Hell some days the DNR would be at the boat ramp and check me again!

My wifes uncle retired from the U.S.MINT. the newly retired couple went to S.Florida to buy a luxury boat,that resembled a cigarette style boat. They lived in the N. Chesapeake bay. It took them almost a week to get home. Every hour or so, a police, coastguard ,or some type of maritime police boarding,searching, and doing background checks. So much for a retirement dream , they had to sell it ,and spent the money frivolously. Got to love the people who serve and protect. Ha.

Believe it or not most CG Base Commanders instruct the boys to board and inspect every boat possible just as an exercise to keep them busy and keep the boats operational. But remember they are there in case of an emergency too.

I had a friend who used to take me fishing off the South Shore of Long Island. He was a charter boat captain and a tugboat operator at different points in his life. He has been on the water his entire life since being a kid. 1:30 On the several times that I went fishing with him, we got boarded by the Coast Guard after coming through the inlet . About half the time I was with him he got boarded. All his documentation was always in order. We never had any fish that were short. These people are just thugs with badges . They’re out there trying to extort money out of recreational fisherman. They are thugs!

What a load ofcrap. The only people that should be allowed to detain and board a boat in American water should be the US Coast Guard.

Side note: Pisses me off that the Coast Guard is aloud to stop & perform safety check on s small boat but not any mega cruise ships because they are all foreign registered.

Im a commercial basser out of eastbourne I got boarded the same day as you while fishing the mile mark.. while none of us like being boarded and disrupted it is necessary and a good thing ultimately ensuring none of us take the piss usually if your above board mmo and ifca are pretty chill but dude let me pass this piece of advice to you.... when your defensive and obtuse towards them all your doing is making a target of yourself to them they'll be thinking what do they have to hide everytime they see you theyll board you. They have the same powers as the police and even in extreme circumstance have the power to seize and impound vessels and equipment charges are bought before criminal courts just let em do theyre thing and say nothing more than you need to theyll be in n out in 5min

The US Coast Guard was created by Abe Lincoln to keep supplies from reaching the south. They can board any ship at anytime, anywhere and you have to answer all the questions or they'll take you to jail.

I don’t know how it is Down Under but here in America state and government agencies are like fungus, they feed off of themselves. Their main concern is next year’s budget and as I’m sure you already know scientists will say whatever who’s paying them wants them to say.

I am a recreational fishing enthusiast and have helped out, gone to meetings, collected/donated fish for science, you know, actually making a difference.

Here in North Carolina there’s more flounder than there ha ever been and yet they won’t let the recreational fisherman keep any and have such severe quotes on commercial fisherman that is not even worth going. You obviously don’t know what the hell you’re talking about. They have even started saying that jumping mullets are threatened now 😂. It’s all about control and budgets.

I don’t sea fish but love anything fishing, saw this just couldn’t believe it. however what was the point of this boarding? I understand they were doing their job (fishery staff) but it was obvious the guys were pleasure angling. They were white guys fishing, what possible harm could they do? They overfish and have no care..im glad law-enforcment and the coastguard checks up on people, cause of they catch the bad guys, there might be fish left for those who do it in accordance with the law.
