Bo played high school level soccer. Khabib gets his takedowns off the cage and kicks. When khabib went against the high school state champ 30 pounds less than him he couldn’t take him down without locking his hands which is illegal in wrestling. It’s never ever good to be overconfident. You never know what can happen in a match. I wrestled too in Iowa Dan Gable country. 185 and heavyweight. Won every tournament. Two years in a row. Except the damn state tournament haunts me still today 76 -6 60 pins 50 within a min !! do you ever ever underestimated anyone. Because that’s when you lose some kid I shouldn’t have 84 state tournament. Still eats me up. I might have missed my calling in MMA. But I moved to Florida and started surfing 🌊🏄🏽‍♂️ again. No regrets.

And he’s never competed in wrestling. What’s your point? Doesn’t take a genius to figure this out. Khabib wrestling inside a cage wouldn’t be the same khabib wrestling on a mat with a circle as bounds. Simply because he doesn’t have a cage. A lot of Khabib’s success with grappling had to do with the cage. Takedowns wasn’t his play, it was getting them up against the fence and control the center of gravity to an eventual takedown and exhaustion. Very strategic and calculated. That being said it would transfer over to a wrestling match against a gold national champ and silver Olympic medalist behind the legendary David Taylor. Two different sports that take complete focus on that one sport to be successful. Bo is accurate here. If they wrestled in mma then it’s a completely different story.

Khabib has "wrestled" but he has never competed professionally in wrestling, he has competed and won world championships in sambo, but wrestling is only a small part of sambo, in wrestling not only would a lot of Khabib's actual best skills (like his judo) be tremendously restricted, but he'd be fighting in a completely different scoring system

He has the same energy when talking about the cage and I've yet to see him face a real test yet. Like Khamzat...looked unstoppable until he fought Burns. But that fight didn't diminish my respect for Chimaev. Maybe no one wants to fight Nickal right now, but I'd like to see him actually fighting instead of talking. That’s not a knock against Khabib. It just doesn’t translate that way. Wrestling helps a lot with MMA. MMA helps a little with wrestling.

Bo's correct in this context. Khabib's expertise is in Sambo, which has distinct rules from other grappling forms. While Bo might be superior in wrestling, MMA grappling is a separate discipline. Consider how Jon Jones managed to take down Daniel Cormier, even though Cormier is arguably the superior wrestler. Additionally, Bo Nickal is 2 weight classes larger than Khabib, which would play a major role who would take who down at their level.
