I've been a full British citizen since 1993 after living in the UK for 10 years (have had both my secondary and tertiary education here). It used to be a very difficult matter as it was purely the discretion of the Home Office whether to grant the British citizenship to applicants and it could go either way. This year I celebrate my 40th year living in the UK and never look back. Granted we're in economic doldrums, I'm sure we'll soon be hopping out of this hellhole.
