Yes, I too think scooters are silly, but I am so tired of all the almost obligatory “shit talk” directed at them. We ride little kids bikes, we are in no position to call other people bad things for doing tricks on what was originally a novelty toy for children. When people go so far out of their way to express their distaste for something, as is the case with many BMXers in regard to scootering, it just makes me think that they are not entirely comfortable with themselves.

Yung Andy Your grandpa hasn't been riding BMX for over a decade. Don't get it twisted, I know BMX bikes aren't children's toys. I am just being realistic about how the average person views BMX bikes. To the average person, BMX bikes look just as silly as scooters.

texasBMXer Well if i show up to school in my BMX bike people compliment my bike, if I showed up to school on a Scooter I'd probably get my ass beat lol

Kids riding around in Californian vacant lots on Schwinn Sting-Rays attempting to emulate their motocross heroes has always been the popular narrative for the beginning of BMX. The Schwinn Sting-Ray was a novelty toy for children. Therefore BMX bikes, literally from day one were indeed novelty toys for children. Serious, professional level BMX bikes are obviously no longer children’s toys but neither are professional level scooters.

texasBMXer There has been a "professional BMX" scene for much longer than whatever you can call the scooter scene. I bet you're one of those people that would love to see scooters in the X-Games, right?

Fling Flonger I have never thought enough about scooters to think about them being in the X Games. I ride BMX, nothing else. That being said, I would not be surprised if it happened. The gist of my original comment is that I was tired of hearing people go so far out of their way to say negative things about scootering.
