Good video, but for someone who has never done this before, it is difficult. I tried it alone, took me like 4 hours. The zipper ripped of from the roof on one corner, so I had to sew it back on hole by hole. Also getting the zipper in and lining it up correctly took me multiple tries. Then the zipper wouldn't want to connect on one spot, that was also tricky. And a heatgun to make the window soft was also helpfull. For the old Z3 tops, they do shrink over the years. So it is the best to get a custom sized replacement window. I send mine in as a sample and the size of the new one was very excact. No wrinkles at all. I recommend bring you car to the professionals who do this as a daily buisness. They do have more experience and know all the tricks. That will save you al lot of time, stress and a few days of your lifetime at the end.🙏

I'm in the midst of trying to install a new rear plastic window on my '98 M Roadster. Like others, I have had the same failure in my right and left upper corners pulling away. Prior ownership did glue those areas, which bided some time, but that too has failed. It needed a new window. Car sat in storage for 22/yrs, accumulating only 3K miles during that time. It now has 19K and the top is in very good condition, so hate to replace the whole when just the window needs replacement. However, this has been an exercise of frustration. After the zipper slide broke and finding a new one, I've gotten pretty proficient at getting both ends started and zipping towards the first corner - lower right side. Either before the corner, or while trying to make the bend, the zip separates requiring going back over the open portion. Sometimes it closes and I can move forward, most times I need to restart from the beginning. Even if I can move forward, by the times I turn the first corner, it is separated again. Anyone with words of wisdom or tricks of the trade that I can lean on?

Good commentary. A little constructive advice: please get someone to hold camera for you and get some good lighting. It's impossible to see some of what you were doing. also would appreciate more detail on the sewing.

Why not leave the zipper pull in place? Is this removed for security reasons? I used to have a Triumph TR6 and liked to have the soft top up and unzip the rear window.

What if my zipper is on the inside of my car and on the outside it is sewn ?

Do you know if the 1996 bmw Z3 Roadster has zippers on the rear window?

Right at the 4:44 mark you changed camera view and skipped the part of how you got the zipper to connect on both. That was the most important part and you left it out. Why???

What about If you have just the Frame unglued? What kind of glue can you use? Thank you for an answer

If the zipper still good . You can glue back with LANDAU TOP AND TRIM GLUE

sometimes just lacquer thinner Byron recommend You to You use lacquer in a convertible top. So you can gasoline the chip one or acetona eather once
