The BMW XM Label Red, now rebranded as XM Label, stands out as an unconventional choice among the latest special M SUVs. Marketed as the most potent BMW M car to date, boasting an impressive 738 horsepower (750 PS), it takes the top spot, with the base XM variant following closely at 638 horsepower. Despite a marginal power increase and a boost in torque (737 lb-ft vs. 590 lb-ft), the XM Label Red doesn’t offer substantial additional features compared to the regular XM. Essentially, it’s a tuned-up version with unique BMW Individual colors that incur no additional cost.
Naturally, over the last few months, we asked ourselves: Is the high price tag of $185,995, a $26,000 increase from the standard XM, justified for this trim? Last week, BMW has finally handed over the keys to us to sample a beautiful Sepia Blue spec on some curvy roads around Greenville, South Carolina.

    I was expecting more styling like the prototype. The exclusivity is not worth it to me. I want more distinction like an M4 CSL. I appreciate the video.

    I also picked up an XM label last Wednesday, and it was much more comfortable than the M3 and M4, and it was much more comfortable to drive around with your family, right? The ride quality is even more comfortable than the base XM. I think they probably did some software tuning. M3CS is also the case. The funny thing is that the monthly lease price difference between the fully loaded X7M60 at $125,000 and the XM label at $190k is only about $180, but the XM is a plug-in hybrid and can go over 30 miles in electric mode, so why there is no reason to buy X7M60, unless you are crazy. I commute 40 miles round trip a day, and it seems like I spent about $5 on gas in two days. No brainer at all.

    There is zero software tuning from what I was told. And yes, it's crazy how good the XM deals are. It makes sense then

    this bmw guy is so honest i think and i felt the same way he did when i was testing drive XM for 2 days..me and my family were so uncomfortable of this car way it rides ...ride was so hard and felt lots of headache in the rear seat..i hpoe bmw put some air suspention like Cayenne toubo and Ferrari Prosangue ,X7 m60I..and that will be an epic

    I test drove both and ended up buying the Label. I don’t think the suspension is different or any better and we all agree that is its bigger let down, but I found it took a day or 2 and I don’t even notice it anymore. The one thing they have definitely tuned is the transition between gas/electric and gear changes where the Label is just much smoother. They did tweet the suspension for the added power too. I’ve only had the car for around 4 days but I’m loving it. The problem with the X5 M is it’s just another X5 amongst the 50 I see each day. Leasing an X5 M is about $500pm cheaper than a Label and for that I think it’s worth having something unique and makes one feel like a trendsetter!

    @@bmwblog the vintage brown leather goes a way to making it feel that as well as the blue leather but they then release the Label with one color being black with a touch of red. That is disappointing. I think the back is special but they certainly didn’t make much effort in the front. I just love the power train and 30 miles electric is actually fine to do daily chores around town. I do think that they should have gone with the Europe approach of charging rather than the US approach of hold charge to improve consumption.

    I've driven it. Suspension is great FOR DRIVER in sports mode. Daughter commented it was jarring in the back compared to my existing X5 F15. But comfort makes it feel more like the X5. For the driver though, the body control is very good. Much less roll than the X5. I can confidently weave in and out of traffic at high speeds.

    Totally agree with the point on suspension. It should have come with air suspension, nowadays people value comfort just as much as handling and performance. MB and Porsche are all putting Active Ride suspension in their cars to make them more comfortable. As a X6M owner, I can say BMW needs to play catch up on suspension technology to improve ride quality.

    I also tested the m760e which is much more comfortable due to the suspension but the XM was more fun to drive

    To me it's worth the money!.& funny thing is the reason why alot of people hate it(design) is the reason why I love thee beast so very much!.I guess it's a case of "different strokes for different folks".when it comes to car design why should we expect all of us to love one design?.there are alot of cars/vehicles out there for us all to pick what we love.problem is we just want to conform as in all of us to love/have one car,which to me is very boring.big up to BMW!!!.

    I personally have no issue with the exterior design. My biggest pet peeves? The suspension and the interior not being special enough. Other than that, it's a fun and fast car

    XM or XM Label are both confusing vehicles. As a current and former owner of multiple M cars, I noticed neither vehicle has an M Compound Brake System like actual full-fat M cars. These are the same Red or Blue brake Pads as the ones you can get for $650 on M Performance Models. My wife drives a 2024 X7 M60i, and I have to tell you it drives much, much better than XM, and it has the same Red Brake Pads as the XM. I think XM was a missed opportunity for the M brand. The XM sits on the X7 platform and the measurements are very similar. The 22-inch tires on the XM are the same size you will find on the X7 40i or X7 M60. For a car that is between $170K to $180K, you still get a manual read-fold-down seat. I am not sure why they didn't just apply the rear seat electric folding functions from X7. The bag to carry the charging cable looks like an afterthought. This same exact bag is also in the IX M60. For XM Label, you are limited to only one trim interior color Red/Black. It reminded me of cheap Japanese trim levels that you get one color, and one color only. At least with regular XM, you get to pick 4 different interior color options. Not a big deal, but it is about attention to detail, which XM lacks. You don't even get a rear window sunshade. On the XM, they are talking about so-called high horsepower. But in reality, once your electric power drains you are really left with 483 ICE power, which is less than your M Performance models of 523 horsepower like the X5 M60i or X7 M60i. For that price, I would have loved to see a carbon fiber roof or Sky Lounge LED Glass Roof. They could have at least put the new M Steering Wheel rather than the one that is almost a decade old. Lastly, the trunk is a waste of space. Not sure why there is no underneath compartment like X7, X6, X5, and even X3. They could have placed the charging cable there rather than having the bag dangling from left to right. And lastly, the air suspension would have been a great asset for the crazy heavy car.

    I have my XM Label Red Edition since +-1.000 km now. I'm very satisfied with it but I do agree on the suspension, it's OK but lacks some comfort in Comfort mode being a daily use car... It has 22' alloy wheels. Could have been more "avantgardiste" inside but still has the "waw" effect when people step inside the car. I've heard the back is very comfortable, even being with 4 tall people. Definitely not perfect but I don't know any perfect cars... we can always find something to complain about, at least I do :) Still, very interesting to have a V8 PHEV... one of a kind, especially as a company car in Belgium.... Most of people drive electric or V6 PHEV. We're not used to V8 here :)

    Tell them to make cars better. Improved quality. The autotopnl video shows a defocused mark on the steering wheel of a fifth-series car. Shock!!! Let them not abandon the internal combustion engine. It's still early. Let them increase the power of M versions

    I understand that but power is cut short to protect the more under that mileage, that’s why I asked. Several ppl did reviews under that mileage and complained that it needed more power when in actuality, it just hadn’t gone through the break in process to unlock the motors full rated HP

    In my personal opinion, the BMW XM should have been the X8 M60e. Essentially a high-end BMW, very powerful and with air suspension. Better suited to take on cars like high-end Range Rovers or G-Class. Or, it could stay the XM, with the coil suspension, but priced a lot lower. Or their option, the XM Label Red should have been very special: different interior, different setup, exclusive colors and trims, a carbon fiber package maybe, etc..

    @@bmwblogI’ve had the Label a month now and I love it, but I must agree with you. It should have carbon brakes, more carbon fiber on the exterior to reduce weight and more color options inside other than the black and red. There are over 80 color options available for the exterior so no issues there. The MSRP may be $190k but no one is paying that. We are all paying around $165k which isn’t bad when you compare it to the Cayenne Turbo GT, G Wagon, Range Rover, Urus, Bentayga etc, all of which are quite a bit. Ore expensive with the same options. Coming from the X7, it’s a great car but just boring. It’s a soccer mom car and that’s what I felt like driving it. The Alpina conversion does nothing to change that.

    Personally, I would have loved if they focused solely on the luxury side rather than wanting to do both. They compromised both comfort and performance of the car, your hit soccer mum would love a comfy ride which it doesn't offer, you might also want to get crazy which it also doesn't offer. Love the car, the looks the interior but they should have just copied rolls Royce and made it pure opulence rather than integrating the M package. The car drives like garbage.

    He is just being honest about the car if you don’t want to see someone being honest then go watch something else. You have never driven one of these cars so your opinion doesn’t matter regarding the XM.

    Can't win on KZread. If you don't complain about a car, you're paid by BMW. If you complain, then that's an issue. Our job is to review cars and to point out things, pros and cons. And that's exactly what we did here, without any biased. We also tried to bring arguments, versus saying that we simply dislike certain things.

    Your comments are well within the consensus opinions on this car. The real hard core guys who really love it rough love it, but most felt it missed the mark a bit for current market and, of course, the price. The bmw in the channel name makes others expect a more fanboy/cheerleader type of review, I suspect. I enjoy your channel and this review! @@bmwblog

    @@cbotten106 Thank you. The name doesn't really matter. We would cover the news the same way, regardless of the name. It's just easier to tell a viewer than a BMWBLOG channel is about BMWs, rather than ABCD channel being about BMWs. We're journalists, so we review the cars in an objective way.
