BMW X3 E83 door panel removal + water leak fix

Fixing a very common BMW issue. Water will leak into your car through the gab between the door and the door panel. Often caused by a loose door seal. Hope this DIY will help you.

My 2007 E83 hold on till quite recently the door sea starts to leaking air but so far no water leakage problem at all.

Hair dryer? Ok. But a sealant gun ( the kind of thing you use for applying silicone sealant around a bath) would be easier, quicker AND guaranteed to work. Butyl roofing and gutter sealant costs a couple of euros a tube. It's the same stuff they use in the factory. I've used it loads of times when doing door speaker upgrades on both beammers and mercs ( mercs have exactly the same issue)

Having front passenger and two back passengers foot wells full of water, do you think my seals have gone too?

did you unplug the battery to unplug the airbag or just unplug the airbag. I heard if just unplugging the batter there's a good chance that it might go off. just wondering

Amazon_Reject Amazon_Reject actually i didnt unplug the battery. Nothing went off. But if you want to be sure just unplug the battery 10 minutes before you start with the job.

Why not clean as best you can and apply some kind of silicon

I have done this fix a couple of times. Re using the old kit normally work fine. You can use silicon as well. It will do the job. It is an annoying bmw issue.

Happened to me as well, turns out it was a sunroof leak, not the door.

When you still have warranty yes. But normally this occurs after 5 years. Had the same issue with my BMW f10 from 2010. Water was leaking into the car. I agree that for a premium brand like BMW this is really not acceptable. To fix it you you have to spend a couple of hours of your time but it is an easy way to save money.

Tee McCallum I totally agree. Unfortunately there are so many common problems with many bmw models. It isn't easy to get them fixed under warranty. But still it is my favourite brand and I dont want to change 🙃🙃

Bart3sgte I'm going through that right now, its looks like an easy fix, but I just don't feel like all the removing stuff, not good for my nails. Lol

Shouldn't have to use nails in the first place, a pick used by anyone who plays guitar would be a much simple start, plastic pry tool as well as bicycle tire lever too.
