    This is actually pretty cool, but for those of us over the pond, getting these replacement buttons may not be so easy, unless the standard ones are sold by the dealers, but I suspect not, they will no doubt want you to just buy the entire new start button/switch. Mine was looking sad already when I bought the car, so this is something I would like to replace at some point, but to be honest, I would stick with the original black button. Coffee is good!! :D

  • @justinbuice

    @justinbuice

    5 жыл бұрын

    I think the reddish orange color is a traditional BMW thing. That specific color is supposed to have the least effect on your night vision. The white backlight for the tach and speedo is reserved for M cars. I have looked into changing them but it’s a big pain. You basically have to pluck all of the tiny LED’s off the circuit board and then solder new white ones on. Personally the color doesnt bother me enough to want to change them lol.

    Hey Justin and fellow comment readers.... just a quick question to see if it’s happened to you or if you have any knowledge about it. So maybe every 4 times i start my car, my idrive will try to boot up, but fail and black screen. Then it will try to boot up again and black screen. And so on for about 25 minutes until it actually finally boots up. It doesn’t do this all the time, like i said maybe every 4th time i go to drive. It results in the stereo not working which is the worst part. I’ve tried the reset method while it’s black screened but it doesn’t do anything.

  • @Prethinartith

    @Prethinartith

    5 жыл бұрын

    EvoroPictures I ended up taking it into a BMW specialist shop. Essentially you’ll have to end up paying for a new chip/card to replace the one that’s failing as well as it getting recoded to your specific BMW. You have a few options, 1 is to send the chip in your car to this place in California that recodes it and sends it back to you which then requires someone to install it, 2 is to go to your local bimer shop and have them buy a used one recode it and install it, 3 is to completely replace the system, 4 is to check an online retailer and hope you buy the right thing and install it yourself. I went with option 2 because it’s the quickest and seemed most reliable. But anyways what you’re buying is a replacement chipfor the old one. A suggestion from me is to take out any CDs you might have in there because when it finally dies out they’ll be goners

    Prestin A So I’m seeing at my nearest pick-a-part the idrive screen and wiring for $100. Would this not solve the problem? About how much did it cost completely? I’ve got an appointment at the dealership for my recall I’ll ask about it then i suppose. I’m just not trying to get gashed.
