Bmw Rear Wheel Bearing Replacement "in Situ" On The Car. 1 Series 118d 2,3,4,5 series all the same.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Worn Bearing, "How To Replace DIY The Easy Way"
The rear wheel bearing was getting noisy making a metallic rotating sound.
In the video I show how to check the wheel bearing, and then replace on the car, removing as little as possible, using just a few tool bought from amazon.
This job is the same on many BMW Models.

@@aaanton11 but this kit is not suitable for E92 328i xDrive 2013. There are rear bearing 84mm, and the largest cup from that toolset is 84-85mm inner diameter. So to remove bearing from hub i've used hub itself and 5 long bolts.

  • @nicks7548

I started watching this video and it was almost comical at first because I did the same job on a 2007 X3. The truck came from the rust belt in the US and was no where as easy as you made it look. A friend of mine helped and smashed the axle with a sledge hammer mushroomed the axle. Then putting it back on banged in the end of the axle ruining the axle. I repaired it and changed the abs ring which was causing a whole host of problems on a awd anyway. The only thing I did differently was take the brakes off with the 2 15 mm bolts and not separate them. Installed the hub with the large bearing cup because it’s more stable and goes in straighter. I used a very long socket adapter and removed the e12 bolts on axle inner outside the car top of shaft the boot don’t get in the way and used a friend whose nickname is now Hammer. Great video!

Great work man! Your video helped me a lot with tool choice. Went to do this yesterday on my 3 series GT and since my diff is different type the axles don’t go out, I dismanteled the hand brake and took down the whole wheel bearing housing. It was not that big of a deal actually, 4 more bolts plus the handbrake cable and you are off. It was much easier doing the bearing removal and install on a table and with a vice.

I agree on the torque specs. The center axle nut could wear out the bearing prematurely if over torqued. It’s hard to get a feel with an impact lol. Also I would recommend a medium “blue” grade Loctite on the 6 axle torx bolts along with the brake caliper bracket to hub also torque to spec. All in all Great video!!!

Great stuff mister, noting that type of bearing with 2 part inner race are loose by design until tightened (around 9:50 in) apart from that almost inconsequential point, excellent tutorial! :D Just trying to save someone a load of work if they're only changing the shaft, as it'll feel floppy soon as the nut is undone if inner races haven't stuck to the hub. If you have the bearing removal kit, always worth doing the bearing when changing the drive shaft anyway. Keep up the great work, inspiring me to upload a video of my own some day.

Great video that shows how to do it! Might have to do this on my 118d to soon. Btw, the nut on the driveshaft should be torqued to 145 nm + 45 degrees according to Bmw specs (for the driveshaft thats M24). 🙂

Good job. Good tip I came across for getting the race off is to put a socket in a vice, put the hub on the socket, heat the race with oxy or map and it just drops off. No more cutting them off (to be fair that one came off easy with the puller...get a lottery ticket quick)

Great video and interesting to watch. Only comment I would make is to tighten those various nuts using a torque wrench. Those electric impact wrenches impart a MASSIVE amount of torque and it is super easy to over tighten bolts, particularly the main axle and the wheel studs!!!

fantastic video, but don't forget of course if you don't use the right torque to tighten the wheel bearing bolts it will break more faster so I recommend 140 torque.

Thanks for the detailed tutorial. Definitely something I could tackle at home but for me the cost of some of the tools I’d need vs paying my mechanic to do it doesn’t justify it. I understand tools will be there for next time but I wouldn’t use them often enough.

Thank you, stumbled upon your channel when you fixed the squeaky suspension that I had too :) Am about to change the rear drive axle because of the ABS-ring, and was a little worried how to get the axle back into the hole(?), but seems like it was just to push it in according to this video, Makes the fix seem much do-able.
