BMW R18 - First Service | Cost and Breakdown

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I took my BMW R18 to the dealer for its first service. Let's talk about what was covered and how much it cost me. Do you do your own service? How much would you pay for a break-in service? Let's get into it!

Solution is to pay with your Debit card. No fee. Bought a 2023 R1250 GSA and ended up doing the 600 mile service myself. $46 for 4 qts of Castrol Power1 4T Race 5w-40, a $12 Mahle 619 filter, $16 for a liter of Lubrimoly 75w-90 GL5 and $8 in washers. $82 in parts. A little over 1.5 hours in labor. No other "shop fees". BMW, IMHO, really takes advantage of their customers, with some serious price gouging. So bad, every small job, they bill in .5 hour increments. Shop rates where I live are $200/hr. I got quotes of $400 to $460 for my 600 mile service.

Yes, seems about right. I'll probably do most of it myself in the future if I can dedicate the time for it. I enjoy doing service on my own machines as well.

@@bertsbike You'll be so far ahead in $ doing so. I can't seem to make $200 an hour, BMW shops are very overhead heavy.

I recently purchased a 2017 R1200 GSA from our local dealership. It had 24,000 miles on it, with all services up to date. Since they also previously serviced my Victory Vision, I found them to be very reasonable and thorough on both charges and work performed. I also got a comprehensive 4 year warrantee that covers every part and labor charge except for tires and oil. I will be doing a few very long tours this summer, so my upkeep costs should be very low. I really like this bike and it handles like a dream. I am finding from other owners that the costs are comparable or less than many other brands of similar motorcycles and BMW will replace my shaft drive every 30,000 miles free of charge. I can live with that.

Congrats on the GSA! Sweet ride. Having that 4 year warranty is for peace of mind as well. R18's come with 3yrs. ATM.

Shaft is either if out of spec or every 36000 miles after last shaft change.

Dang, Pandora charged me 40 bones for shop supplies. Sounds like Nashville is cheaper.

Seems excessive for a few towels n such... Or the guy spilled a bunch of oil, used a bunch of shop naps and was like... "ummm.... Shop supplies"

Dealership charges for using a credit card? That doesn't seem right. But if they know they are the only Dealership close by, they probably know you won't go to another Dealership to have the service done.

Yeah, To be fair they told me ahead of time, I meant to pay with a debit card but both cards are the same color. 🤣

I took my R18 in for the 600 mile service here in New York last week and paid about the same as you. Can’t believe a BMW dealer charging you credit card fee. BS !

Yeah, seems to be about the midpoint. Unfortunately things are getting expensive with the current way the economy is and I've already seen more and more establishments around having minimums or "convenience fees" for cards etc.
