Warm the engine first as it helps the oil drain more efficiently and take the fill cap out before draining. Yet another double clicker with a torque wrench, the first click does the job.

@@PacMoto I learnt to use and care for torque wrenches in military aircraft engineering training and double clickers is what we called those who weren’t confident enough to believe that one click steps the torque.

Remove your watch before doing maintenance! Hate to wreck a nice watch. Also if your filter socket slips. Put sandpaper in the socket to make a tighter fit!😊

Great video! I just did my RT. Used dealer BMW oil in 1-liter bottles. In a crunch... I fully drained it hot right after a 12-mile ride to the dealer. I removed the filter first. Got lunch while it drained. Then I installed the new filter and filled it with 4 liters. The site glass showed the level at the top of the site glass's red ring. I rode it for a hundred miles. No leaks. Now the site glass shows completely full with no gap at the top. So the level is over the red ring. Why is the prescribed 4 L too much? Will it blow up on Friday when I leave for a 4-day trip to the mountains?

  • @PacMoto

I’ve done tons of oil changes and have NEVER need 4L to fill up the bike. Even when I do a valve clearance check. There is alway residual oil in the engine. Moral of the story is to fill up to the mid-way point and then go for a short ride and top off as necessary.

  • @PacMoto

And for your current situation, I would remove the drain plug and let some oil out. Wear gloves as it will be messy. Then top off as needed.

I let the bike stand overnight, then checked the site glass. It was perfect, it lined up at the top of the circle.

Best practices suggests the following: 1. Warm the engine before draining the oil. 2. Loosen the filler bolt/plug first, before opening the drain plug. 3. Drain the oil, remove old oil filter. 4. Reinstall oil drain bolt and filter. 5. Add the oil, run the engine, verify correct oil level. 6. Ride the bike around the block, then LOOK FOR LEAKS. 7. If no leaks reinstall the skid/belly plate.

No, the Torx bits should fit snugly, similar to an Allen wrench. Make sure you are using the proper size. My tools are Craftsmen which you can buy at Lowe’s or Ace.
