BMW R1250GS cockpit cover installation from Wunderlich

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Welcome to the bits and pieces videos for my new BMWR1250GS
Today I am fitting the cockpit cover from Wunderlich, which tidies up the cockpit area to the BM.
Installation should take you about 30 minutes having watched the video, where I point out handy hints and tips for the install.
The cover is of good quality plastic and so are the accompanying screws etc.
Overpriced for what it is , but it looks nice!
Fits really well with no vibrations etc.
The only issue is that with the new style USB on the BMW's, which face down, the weather proof cap impedes the insertion of the usb cable once the cover is fitted and I had to trim some of the cap off to reduce this issue.
Suggest Wunderlich make an adapter ring to raise the power socket 3-4mm away from the cover.
Overall a good fitting , quality product and I would recommend buying it, even if it is a bit overpriced !
8.5/10 from me (price and usb impedance)

Thanks , it does finish the cockpit off quite nicely. A few people have suggested putting a rubber washer between the usb and the cover to raise it up a bit to aid insertion of the cable . I may give this a go even though there is that male into female piece that stops the usb charger from rotating . 👍

This is a really useful and very comprehensive video, many thanks for posting it. I had taken a gamble on a cheap chinese copy of the cover and was scratching my head about how to fit it, there being no instructions (except a cheeky nod to the Wunderlich website!). Following your technique made the installation suprisingly simple, so much less complicated than I had feared. The cheap copy is actually really good by the way. Now tackling brake cleaning after watching your videos on this subject.

Excellent tutorial. I think this modification is mostly cosmetic. I recently purchased a 2013 R1200GS. It had original Michelin Anakee tires. Front tire made a lot of road noise. After watching and reading about tire reviews I ended up getting Michelin Road 6 tires. They are very quiet. No road noise at all.

Awesome! yes very fiddly but the feeling will come back to the fingers when turning home the USB nut! Thank you for the clear instructional video, i have just come in having fitted this bit of kit to the cockpit of my BMW R1250 GSA, slightly different shape with the fairings but fitted perfectly well. A quick tip, when fitting the locking plastic holders onto the fairing of the bike, undo the bolt head to max open, then turn the catching lip of the plastic piece provided till its sitting under the fairing, hold in place and tighten the bolt. this way the piece of kit bites in true and holds fast. if you don't hold it, the plastic piece twists and you only have an edge biting into the underneath of the fairing. the way you gave clear step by step instructions really helped me through the process. thanks again. Angus

@@gsd32i I installed it on my bike this morning. Quite easy to do ( with a bit of patience and finger-spits-gefühl, the plastic spanner is pretty useful tightening the charging socket😉 ) It does make a small improvement to the ( very loud ) noise i have from the front of the bike. First i thought it was from the windscreen ( mine is extra tall and flapping around a bit). Then i thought the front wheel bearings were done😧 Checked that...nothing wrong. After playing around (testing different riding positions, speeds, throttle on/off, etc) i found out the noise is coming from my front tire. I bought the bike used with a brand new set of Battlax T31r. Great grip on tarmac and gravel, but the front tire is really really noisy. As my windscreen is much bigger than yours, i suspect it reflects more noise coming from the front fork "tunnel" to my helmet. So, as this addition might not be a huge improvement on the sound side, it certainly is ( as you mention ) to the look of the cockpit. After owning a 1250RS for a year, all the wires, brackets and cables out in the open was a pain to look at. ( PS have a GIVI "GSA" screen + the support bracket on order ) You have already touched on noisy tires in another video. Pretty important regarding comfort on this bike more than others. Apologies for the much too long comment. Thanks again for your effort.

I have a slightly earlier GS with the DIN socket where you have the USB and so in addition I fitted the accessory USB socket on the left side of the cockpit. I've asked Nippy Normans if the manufacturer has any plans to produce a version of the cover with provision for two power sockets (DIN and USB) and they said "no plans at present" so I won't be buying or fitting one. It will be interesting, though, to hear if you think the cover cuts down on road/tyre noise.

My dealer runs pirelli scorpion 2 tyres on his own bike and says they are much more quiet. I have some new custom earplugs ordered to replace my 12 year old plugs. I'll try these before new tyres.
