Hi, I wish BMW would release the R60 Classic or even the R45. It would create some healthy competition for Royal Enfield and Triumph.

Fuel warning light comes on then counts you down to empty. Reserve has about 4 litres or say 40 miles so its do-able. Reset the trip when you fill up.

This R12 Nine T option 719 is dead gorgeous! With the single seat and the beautiful bar end mirrors, the aluminum paint job in contrast with the red frame , ending on the back seat cover finished by the BMW logo, makes this a piece of art!

the most obvious comparison with the R12 is the Triumph Speedmaster IMO.

Thank you for this very interesting and informative discussion and for taking on my question about ergonomics. I'm right between you with my 178 cm, so now I'm really looking forward to trying these bikes out knowing that both of you felt comfortable. My eyes are mainly on the R12, but I wonder which one of the two you consider more comfortable for longer rides, the R 12 or the R 12 nineT. Maybe you can touch on that in your full review which I'm very much looking forward to. Thanks again and ride safely!

Greetings from Thailand. Great content guys. Love the R12. I would definitely buy one, “ But “, this country imposes a 100 % import tax on that model, and although BMW has a factory here, they don’t build the R12 here. Just can’t get my head into paying double.

What about the heat since it's air-cooled when being stuck in traffic?

An r90 set up for road race has been on display at my local BMW dealership... The 1200 version of that would be smoking hot 🔥 Especially since those things are freaking air-cooled 🥶 I think there's a naked RS. 1250 that's water-cooled variable cammed and better... But you got to have new product every year😮

I’m confused who would choose the r12 over the r18. Hate the exposed wiring up by the neck/triple tree.

Hello - thanks for all great explanations. One question: if you would have the budget to buy the r12 nine t; would you go for it or spend 25% less on a 2 years old r nine t and spend on embellishments? Are the new r12 nine t specs/improvements killing the choice?

Odd to me that the bikes have so much cool tech yet no fuel guage. My Ducati from 2011, has no abs, no tc, no rider aids but has a fuel guage. Who made that decision on this bike.

Another great one from you guys love your work, keep up with great work. My choice for modern retro is new Husqvarna Svartpilen 801 😊❤. BMW R12 NineT is just too expensive for what it is, and BMW going back to EICMA they will bring electric GS models 😂😂

I still ride a lot faster (than what I should be riding), but If I was to have only one bike in the garage, I would go for the R 12 Nine T. A nice cruiser could be the Speed Master -But shaft driven , if triumph could make the change -, once I simply love the beach bars on a cruiser style bike, it really has the virtue to transport me back in Time. Chain drive maintenance? Ho no, don’t want anymore of that. ✌🏻✌🏻

Nice to add that TFT but BMW will use it to drive YOU crazy with all their dam warning lights and service lights. Looks great but can give you headaches, like dating a model in many ways.

Test ridden the new R12 today, harsh suspension, engine sound is disappointing compared to other offerings outside of BMW... sounds like a sowing machine...and general fit and finish was quite poor. I think the triumph speed twin and even the T120 is a better motorcycles in my opinion.

They missunderstood the fuel warning. They are correct that it has no fuel gauge but once you hit the 30 mile reserve the warning comes on and starts counting up to let you know how many miles you have done on reserve - he just missed the first mile on the warning and had about 28 miles left. Source: I got my R12 on Tuesday and had the same confusion by the afternoon :)
