THe 3d view is invaluable especially if you're near curbs. It's a great feature.

Do you know if the new 2023 3 series (G20 LCI) will have park assist as standard? It appears so as "Park Assist Plus" is part of an additional package maybe implying the regular Park Assist comes standard? Thanks!

Hello, I have a question regarding the Drive Recorder with iDrive 7. With the Parking Assistance Package, is the drive recorder always on when parked and the engine turned off? For example, if I go to a restaurant and eat food, and someone hits my car, will the drive recorder capture that even though the car is fully off?

short answer No, drive recorder in idrive 7 is limited to when you are driving, once you're parked the system isn't recording anything. HOWEVER, the NEW Drive Recorder in iDrive 8 with something called Service Pack 21 (basically which systems are standard in a certain model) WILL get a drive recorder when parked, but even that is limited to when the alarm goes off, so someone simply scratching the car won't set it off and start recording.

To my knowledge at this moment the only company that does live camera and constant recording when parked is Tesla, however being a tesla owner myself i can say that it does eat up battery relatively quickly. that later point is the main reason why BMW keeps recording to driving and now to alarm activation only, less strain on the battery (both in ICE/Hybrid and BEV vehicles)

Only iDrive 8 with service pack 21… so iX has it, i4 doesn’t… as this trickles down through the range it will become standard

unfortunately no, there's a difference between the hardware of the two cars. the iX has completely new everything, no components shared so it got the latest and greatest BMW can offer... the i4 because it shares the chassis with the 4 Gran Coupe has to keep using Service Pack 18 (at least until the overhaul)

What about parallel parking?

I just got a 2024 edrive35 and it has the old version of parking assist that looks similar to idrive7. Is that going to be updated to this version that you have?

Believe it or not, the parking systems are literally identical between the two… only the higher end cars get some added benefits like remote parking, digital key plus, record path and remote parking

This self park feature comes with the standard Parking Assistant and not the Parking Assistant Plus, correct?

other way around. Park assistant is just the sensors, cross traffic and backup camera.. the plus adds parking, 360 cam and assorted safety features.

How well does this work if someone parks too closely to your car on either side?

it will work as best it can go get you out. it will also warn you if it's not capable of doing it within the programming's parameters.

Must the car have driven past the place it wants to park?

Yes, that’s how it measures and calculates if it will fit or not.

For the back up assist why a person needs to press gas padel before brake manually? That’s so stupid I was trying to back out from a tight space garage imagine you have to give it gas before the back up assist start. The car won’t move until you give a very very very light press on the gas pedal. Why the car won’t start back up assist as soon as I release the brake.

emergency breaking on the rear and sides on? if so turn them off when backing out of the tight garage first. that will remove the emergency braking within a foot of the sides.

@@BMWofFW thanks for the reply. No it’s not the emergency brake issue. The issue is that when use the backup assist function it won’t start to back out unless I press on the accelerator first and quickly switch my foot onto to the brake. It’s just nerve breaking to apply press on the gas pedal in a tight garage to activate the back up assist and quickly move foot back to the brake to reduce the back out speed……

⁠@@BMWofFW at the 3 mins and 10 second mark in your video. The message on idrive 8 screen shows: pay attention to your surroundings. Press ACCELERATOR and brake manually. So it ask me to press gas pedal and then brake manually, once I press the gas pedal the car moved backwards very quickly in a tight garage space and I have to quickly move my foot back to brake to brake manually. The issue is that it’s nerve breaking to see my car back up with a high speed in a tight space if I press the gas pedal too hard. I think in the previous generation, the car start to back out as soon as I release the brake pedal…
