Wonderful video! perhaps coils and spark plugs next? :) btw I heard only to use bmw Blue coolant? as it has certain chemical compounds to make your waterpump/thermostat to last longer than the other coolants

Thanks for that Chadrick , yup will be doing plugs soon. Yes using genuine BMW coolant is always recommended, this is why I mentioned that I am using a slightly different coolant which is GS94000 approved which means meets the standards required.

Very good video my friend! Can I ask, you mentioned the previous engine for this car is more reliable is that correct? I have been looking at possibly buying one. Does the previous engine have the same oil leak issue?

Thank you Safwan , the 1st Gen is more reliable , but it does have the same oil gasket and oil cooler housing issue , however the valve cover on the 2nd Gen is plastic and the valve cover on the 1st Gen is magnesium which is better and less prone to warping.

@@DocMackGarage thanks for the reply. I just viewed your e90 video with all the issues/concerns on the engine. Is it safe to say, if I buy a used e60 and the gaskets haven't been replaced to go ahead and just do them?

@Safwan Abdul Razak You are welcome, yes I would say it is best to carry out preventative maintenance, however you can also check of it is leaking by running your finger around where there gasket is sitting .

@@DocMackGarage hmmm yes I think definitely will have to have a look and make sure. A bit of an odd question but do bmw/Euro cars use different type of tools when fixing/working on cars? I've only dabbled with Japanese cars so that's all I'm use to...

@Safwan Abdul Razak That is correct euro cars need different tools to those that Japanese cars use.

Did you find it was not necessary to drain the oil and/or coolant?

  • @DocMackGarage

Not necessary as you leave the car overnight for the car to cool, coolant pressure to go down, and oil to sink down to the sump. My engine oil was still good.

Possibly , maybe you ambient at temperature is going, your fan is faulty or water pump has packed it. Make sure to subscribe to my KZread Channel for free if you haven't already.
