It may sound weird, but the amount of ups and downs I’ve had with this car, working on it, learning to drive, and growing as a driver with it, makes it feel more like a friend than a thing… Thanks for watching everyone

Great content, thanks for sharing. An M2 here in UK smashed the F8X record at my local track but only after moving to a 305 square setup. Before this, its times' were only about the same as everyone elses.

I may move to 305 square but it needs SPL arms and playing around with track width. It’s an option moving forward. We will see if I can dial this in first.

Hi mate, another Canadian with a time attack M2 here (but in Australia). I run the same staggered CRS and have you tried a stiffer rear spring for the understeer? I now run 10kg front 18kg rear. What were your final alignment specs?

…Hold up… you just sparked something in my mind for this track specifically. I don’t know if this is the best place to have a full on discussion but I’m on Nitron R3. They go by N in front and pounds in the rear. They are divorced. Their track or middle rates are: 140N front 500lb rear With 275 square, I found the rear way too snappy and it wouldn’t squat and put down the power even going really soft on low speed. I ended up with 140N F 400lb rear Which was incredible for 275 square. But now that I’m back to staggered and I’m getting mid corner understeer… going back to the 500lb might make sense. Damping changes really helped but as you can see, it’s still not enough… Final alignment was -4 front -2.9 rear camber. .08 toe out each side in the front, -0.15 toe in at the rear. give me your thoughts !

@@DriversPaddock You can also try running less rear toe in or maybe stiffer rear sway bar to get more rotation, if you’re happy with your spring rates and just need more rotation.

  • @TheEddysGarage

I went the stiffer spring route over swaybars. Are those toe setting in inches? I thought you were in Canada. Don’t be a heathen, use the metric system 🤣. I’m not familiar with the correlation of divorced springs but I’m sure a quick email to Nitron will sort it out. What are your wheel specs? My 9.5 +25 needs a spacer to clear 275s up front. And my 10.5 +40 needed the bumper tabs trimmed for the 295/35/18. I’m in a street class that can’t use 2way or more adjustable.

I’m going to try 500lb rear spring with a progressive bump stop packer. If it does what I want it to do… it’s going to fix the issue. The fact that damping helped a lot… it is a big sign. Damping just slows down when the default handling nature will occur. So I delayed understeer, but didn’t fix it. I just delayed it then slowed my entry speeds.

@@DriversPaddock and I assume you have coded out the braking Pre-tension so so brakes are easier to modulate in braking zones and when trail braking? I had a lot of understeer with it on.

What spring rates are you running with the Nitrons?

  • @DriversPaddock

13N front and rear which is an ok set up for a square set up and for really high speed tracks… not like this one… Just swapped to the 16N which is around 940lb rear…my wheel rate is 345lbs/in. These are using assumed..but typical BMW motion ratios of 0.9F and 0.62R. Should be much better come competition time. One more test day to find out.

@@DriversPaddock I also have the Nitron R3 system and they sent me 140N/mm front and 80N/mm rear. Along with the full SPL part catalog on my F82CS, I was curious about what I could do dampening-wise to reduce understeer while stiffening the rear. Also, I love the channel and legitimately can't stop watching this video. I would love to see a follow-up or an in-depth setup video highlighting the setup changes you made and how they impacted lap time and handling.

@@seansmith3275 ahh thank you for the support. I have a time attack competition with this car in less than 4 days. I’ll be documenting the whole thing. Stay tuned! 80n/m rear is very soft. Are you divorced or true rear coilover? You need to remember that damping only delays or speeds up the sequence of compression and rebound (both high and low speed). Tell me where your understeer is happening - entry, mid corner or exit.. this will tell me how you can adjust your dampers to help delay or speed up the sequence of suspension compression or rebound to help you in the corner phase you are having the most trouble with. In most cases, damping does not change the underlying handling characteristic. An understeering car will still likely understeer, but we can have that happen earlier… or later…

  • @seansmith3275

@@DriversPaddockGreat, I will stay tuned! The rear is a true rear coilover which is equivalent to 400 lb/in and the front is equivalent to 800 lb/in. I'm curious why Nitron supplied me with a non-conventional spring setup that's prone to understeer. Regardless the understeer tends to happen mid-corner. All of my damper settings are how they came from Nitron so I have yet to play around and really understand how each setting affects the car.
