Great job on documenting the process and providing some great tips for the BMW i8 oil change! It's truly an awesome video and I am glad you put something out there with above par audio and video as my oil change video was a first attempt at learning. :) I'm going to have to incorporate a few of these steps in my oil change process as well. I'm so very grateful that you mentioned my channel's video as well. Thank you so much for your kindness and friendship!

Great video. Perfectly photographed, tons of good tips, and very entertaining. Menu selections and button pushes to check oil level, no dip stick. I guess that is progress. At least it is a cleaner way to check the oil. 😃

Good tip on cleaning the engine surface before you remove the oil filler cap. Dust and dirt can go anywhere indeed. Also interesting to see how much the viscosity is different from other (older) BMW engines. Great job as always :)

It is a pretty state. My coworker for many years is an ASE from CU! I went to UF and ended up at Martin down in Waterton Canyon. With the car groups we drove down to CO Springs a couple times a year. I think we did a video of a drive down to the Edelweiss restaurant. Good times!

Again great video. I prefer to perform my own maintenance on my bmw. I could tell you horror stories about my experiences with me local bmw dealership. From missing engine hardware, tools left inside the engine bay and my favorite, removing my old air filter and never installing a new one. I shouldn’t have to check for these things but, I love my cars and want to be sure they are taken care of. Maybe I am too picky. Anyway great job. Silicone paste is a good choice as a o-ring lube.

In the US, do you not worry about not having dealer Service History like in the UK when it comes to sell a car? I wouldn't want to buy an i8 if the service book/idrive did not show it was serviced at the main BMW dealers (even though its expensive) We (or I should say me lol) tend to look for Full BMW Service History (FBMWSH) to make sure everything is done by BMW, specially when I was looking to buy my E63 M6. Something like an i8, I would be looking for this too being a "special" car lol Anyway top job!

Hi Franny, Another great video! I have an M2, but I still learn a lot from watching you work on this car. I’ve been having trouble finding service manuals for modern cars (my M2, my wife’s Macan). Do you have tips for where to find them? I hate solely relying on forums and videos (except yours!), but sometimes I have to when I can’t find a manual. I know NewTIS is an option for BMWs at $30 per day...curious if you have advice. Thanks!

It's so common to hear the i8 referred to as "a supercar" and "not a supercar" by many car enthusiasts. I personally hesitate using that term with my i8 because it leads to disagreement. My most recent disagreement was with the owner of an Aventador SVJ who invited me to a rally where only supercars could attend. I told him, the i8 is not a supercar, and I'd feel like the owner of the CarBros replica Enzo that showed up to the Tour de Elegance during Monterey Car Week if I showed up with the i8. He called the host and they said the i8 is a supercar and is welcome. I still felt out of place, there. I was once told: "What defines a supercar? Mid-mounted engine and lightweight but rigid chassis including a high power to weight ratio. At the end it needs to be desirable." The debate continues. 😃
