The manual gear box for the BMW's are rather outdated. The clutches are too long, and the gear boxes are built for comfort rather than quick shiftss. I too love manual, but it would be a difficult choice between the new ZF transmission and a manual. Have you actually driven the new ZF transmission?

The Vances that's a great question. The DSG feels faster when it shifts and more "crisp". The ZF in BMW feels "slushier" when driving in comfort mode and in "D" but when you put the drivelogic setting in Sport mode as well as move the shift lever to Sport mode, it shifts rather quick with a nice "kick" that feels satisfying. These two transmissions are very different in how theyre designed, and just in general. I have not gotten a chance to drive BMW's DCT which would be equivalent to VW's DSG but I would assume that it's very similar. The DSG I drove was in a MKV GTI with 200hp or so, and the car itself was slow compared to the BMW cars I drove the ZF in (M240, F30 330, F30 335, F10 550) but still fun to drive. idk in a GTI i'd prefer a manual, even while knowing that the manual is slower. VWs make good manuals that are fun and satisfying to shift, while BMW does not. Not that VW's DSG sucks, its great but its just a personal preference. BMW's ZF trans is much better than their manuals and this is coming from someone who owned a manual E46, E90, as well as an F30 in manual. The ZF auto seems to suit these cars better. My manual E46 felt so much more satisfying to drive compared to my manual F30.

mujjuman I own a dsg gti and this is the first auto I’ve owned in all my 23 cars lol but the wife won’t daily a manual and I have a company work truck so I just got her something that I wouldn’t absolutely hate driving. I am however looking into replacing it. We’re considering a 328i xdrive m sport f30 or a Q50S and since the q isn’t remotely close to feeling as good as the dsg I’m thinking I may buy my first bmw product. Wish us luck on that
