BMW E93 fixing Roof Rattle Convertible Top Rattle noise temporary repair

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Roof Rattle is disgusting! So I went the hard way and try to fix it by myself, I found the issue, and according to the dealer that part is pretty fragile, "Top Roof Lift Motor Drive Unit Latch" I'm not proud of the road I chose for a temporary fix, but it work, if you want to do something like that just make sure the great melting temperature is at least 150f.
So BMW M3 E93 with hardtop convertible is back to the business and ready for the summer, I would love to say that but we still have a lot to do!
See you in the next one guys!

BMW E93 Convertible Top Roof Lift Motor Drive Unit Latch - It's really hard to find any parts for this car, most of them are discontinued already, so eBay or Junk Yard is your best bet. Good luck, guys!

Hi! Nice video and good diagnostic. I am dealing with the same rattle you are. The rattle that you show at .37seconds to .44 seconds. However the rods on my roof assembly are still covered in plastic and they are not loose. Do you think they might still cause an issue? Or could it be something else? Please advise your thoughts. Thank you.

I have the same vehicle, except I get this “suction pop” like noise. Sometimes it comes from rear wheels, other times it sounds like it’s the roof top. It’s driving me crazy.

I can't say I know what's up with that but you can try to do the regular maintenance, like: Hinges lubrication maintenance: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pqJsuZKJgtW0aZs.html Hard Top Convertible seal maintenance: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nIN-u7V-mrqteJc.html Check the e93 playlist you might be able to find something interesting.

Hi there. At 4:24, the grease that you've applied, did you apply it from the top? Or was it applied after opening the actuator manually through the manual control under the headliner? I want to do this temporary repair first before I do your other permanent repair which kinda scares me a little.

I did add the Grease when the Roof was Open. You can also add a little bit into the rear portion, after all, close and open the roof and remove the leftovers since it will push some of the greases out. But I still suggest going with a permanent Fix, despite the grease working it is still messy, and make sure that you have one that outstands high temp. the longevity Isn't that good... Just be careful and you don't have to remove the liner, you can extend the Rod and try to get these two e10 screw to lose and get something underneath, also if you expend them you'll be able to get grease there, so I highly recommend to at least expose the rods even if you not gonna be doing the permanent fix.

@@Makhnovets so helpful thank you!! I just didn't want to manually open or close any part of the roof that's why was reluctant to extend the rod when the roof is in half open position. You are much braver than me. 😂 So far I have applied grease after opening the roof half way. I put it in the rod area as seen in your video and the rear slot where the rod goes into. It has made a very minute difference. Still very rattly on bumpy surfaces. Strangely, my yellow plastic parts seem perfectly intact, not broken like yours. So I'm thinking I should extend the rod and apply grease on it without removing the whole rod assembly as you do in your permanent fix video. And yes grease is high temperature grease.

I have F83 and the same problems. The noises itself is annoying enough for me to ditch the car and never get a convertible. But then I saw ur vid and makes me wonder if I can improve it. So as far as I understand, the noises are coming from where? Thanks, just subscribed!

Interesting video mate, btw mind asking what do you think if closing the roof need around 4 minutes but top down or open roof no issue...

  • @Makhnovets

    @Makhnovets

    2 жыл бұрын

If it takes 4min to close the roof, make sure to check the hydraulic fluid in the truck of the car! After you remove the floor from the trunk and a plastic underneath very at the end you will see the roof motor with the White tank attached to it and that's where it's going to be hydraulic fluid there are minimum and maximum level on it so make sure that somewhere in between or at the maximum level if it's in minimum or lower just got to top it up, also double check with the hydraulic lines if they have no leaks after all. For some reason to open the roof you need have more pressure in the lines then opposite way.

Hi all, i think i may be able to add some info to this. I have an E93 335i DCT with quite a good amount of rattle. I have corrected the from locks which needed a new washer under each to bring tight. the washers that came out were mic'd up for size and replace with all new and one extra to cure that part. Over a period of about 5-6 months i have had exactly the same issue as described here, the plastic insert. I noticed mine just as i was about to get in and saw the plastic piece on the seat. investigating this the plastic part is not available as far as i can find out on its own. I have bought a second hand one with good plastics off ebay to work out how and what to change. In short i have managed to get a complete plastic out so it can measured and quite possibly 3d printed somewhere. Please feel free to msg me if you have any questions about this.

after all i did fix the issue, the fix is pretty simple, will try to post the video soon! there nothing to do with that plastic piece but there also noise which is coming from missing that plastic complitly. will start working on the video today, hopfully will finish by toorrow! the plastic is desintigrating by age and the heat, i have 2012 and evry single plastic piece is falling a part...you definely have greate idea of 3D printing it, i newer was thinking before about, sounds like a good plan!

If it's in between the windshield and the front portion of the roof, then the front latch mechanism have something to do with the noise, Try to push on the portion of the roof that making the noise, if you can sort of wobble while you push on it then the latching mechanism have the problem. Good luck!
