BMW e90 stock intake vs K&N Drop-in + Charcoal Delete

This is a comparison video of BMW stock intake box (US Spec) compared to the same US spec Intake box but with a K&N Filter (replace paper filter) and Charcoal Delete
The point of this video is to see if their is a difference in sound with the K&N and Charcoal delete.
From my experience, after I had swapped in the new filter and cut out the charcoal filter, my car definitely has a slightly lower engine note when starting the car; its a bit louder in the cabin of the car and my passenger even noticed the sound change and she doesn't know much about cars (was just chilling with me as i did the swap and when we started the car, she was like 'whoa... *smiles*'). The car idling at a stop sign/light is no different than stock. There is an increase in throttle response but don't expect anything truly significant; I still feel the delay (comparing to my brother's e46 w/ gruppe M intake). I'll have to get a ECU tune to fix that straight.
As of sound, the engine IMO does seem to be slightly louder (4500rpm and up); there is no dramatic change in tone. I never expected more power out of this but it does sound nice to hear more of the N52 in the car.

The K&N drop in with the charcoal delete makes a big difference worth buying the drop in

sorry for the late reply, in all honesty after driving my e90 on a daily basis, you're gonna forget anything you initially thought you felt from this "mod" ... I personally don't think it did anything for the car. I deleted the silencer off the intake & when I drove my friend's stock 328i, my car's engine did sound more pronounced compared to his 328i. So if you're looking for a change in sound, I think the silencer delete is your best option.

SpacemonkeySTI I was gonna do it but I just did silencer :)
Can I just do the delete and stick with the standard MANN filter? Isn't there some intake pipe you also have to plug? Read about that somewhere on the forums. I'd like to keep it a cheap DIY mod, sound difference to me isn't worth a $60 k&n air filter.

+bmwmsport11 Hi! Yes, you can put the paper OEM filter in after you do the charcoal delete. K&N is not necessary. I do remember having to plug a hole after removing the silencer and that can be easily found at a Lowes or Home depot. Unfortunately I do not have this car anymore so I can't take any photographs of it! Sorry!

if me, then no I have no problems. 6MT in my car and idles after being warmed up above 500rpm. doesn't sound like its dying and no hiccups

@Robin Nyfelt 8 years later: yes it does in Europe, I have a BMW E90 325i with a 2.5L N52 motor of 211hp (12/2005) 😅 Motor N53 (E90 LCI) comes with a 3L 👍
